  2. FrontTailPenis Says:

  5. RBGdUP Says:

THE GAME IS FUCKED UP. Hold on, you know the game is fucked up when Def Jam, with as rich of a history as it has in the history of this Hip Hop shit, has only 2 very successful artist…and they are both R&B singers(NeYo & Rihanna). What ever happened to a Hip Hop label??? What ever happened to a label whose sole objective was to produce good Hip Hop music???? Look at these sales, these are awful, where is New York???

Artist that need to be successful to save this game:
    -Outkast(together that is!!)
-Jay-Z(on some steady shit, not just a record here and there)
    -Nas
    -The Roots
-and a couple others, but these are the guys who have previously acheived a certain level of mainstream stature(and yes The Roots did it with “Phrenology” and “Things fall apart” which both went plat)who currently find themselves out of place in what this bullshit industry has become

  6. PiFf Da DoN!! Says:

SOUTH ON TOP RIGHT NOW!…MEN LIE WOMEN LIE NUMBERS DONT!

  7. vigorous Says:

yo rtny, i dunno why u tryna make this into a south vs hip hop shit. you can argue that the south is on top but we all kow that 95% of the garbage hip hop is saturated with is from the south. the other 5% have to do with CORNY-ASS RnB niggaz. metrosexual-ass bow wow niggaz and shit. The south is killing hip hop, and RnB is sure as hell helping it to do so. no more hope in this game, HIP HOP IS DEAD, point blank period. like saigon said “HIP HOP ID GAY”

  8. well Says:

808’s and Heartbreak isn’t a “Rap” album.. making G-Unit on the top 10.

  18. Black London Says:

  24. danga1181 Says:

Hey Realtalk or anyone out there…Ya’ll know what kardinal’s album did???. Most sleeped on nigga in the game.

  25. FrontTailPenis Says:

some niggaz buying micky Ds with they royalty checks lmao

  26. danga1181 Says:

If dude was from Ny as opposed to T.O. he’d probably be on that list.

  27. Guest Says:

    LUDA!

  28. Q Says:

SOUTH ON TOP RIGHT NOW I agree with that and I don’t see any problem with that at all. It’s not going to be like this forever though. After a while the game change and the public get tired of the same that’s been popular and want something else new and fresh and then the West or east takes over for awhile. it’s always been like this. What’s hot today is not going to be hot all the time.

Stop hating on the south and just do your thing and sooner or later the mainstream is ready for some other shit of hiphop

  29. Im A Retard Says:

Ice Cube made more money than all them niggas. his shit was straight indy.and the shit was dope. hiphop aint dead yall just listening to the wrong niggas. im glad 50 flopped. he talked shit about half the niggas in the top 10. everybody he talked shit about did double what TOS did.

  30. Wow Says:

    this is pathetic! smh

  31. Tre Says:

hiphop ain’t DEAD it’s just that the rappers who are selling aren’t all that but who cares, if you are a big fan of hiphop then you don’t care who sell more records. There are tons of great rappers out there doing great music you just dont find them on billboard lists. Check out Immortal Techniques latest material. That mothafucka is dope as hell and thats quality rap music

  32. FrontTailPenis Says:

fav songz from all those albums

    heartless – kanye
    breathe – nas
    fried chicken – nas
why everybody hate cris – luda
    one more drink – luda
i do it for hip hop – luda
    camera phone- game
    dope boys – game

with fried chicken being the tippity top fav. the production was crazy and fresh. busta and nas delivered.

  33. FrontTailPenis Says:

oh year a few joints off TI shit and 1 from jeezy

  34. CJ Johnson Says:

Keeping it real, people care too much about record sales. Record sales don’t make an album good. The quality of the music is what makes the album good. Yeah, SoundScan shows you how many copies of a CD were sold, but they don’t show how many people who bought the CD didn’t like it or even felt like they just wasted their money. Just think about that. It’s not about record sales. It’s about the quality of the record.

  35. rule Says:

black london i think you are right but i take it from a serious page take a look and i dont know if i didnt see lupe are they miss him

    check http://www.worldwidealbums.net/

  36. Hi Hater! Says:

2009 gonna be so much better, with many platinum albums

    50 cent – Before I Self Destruct
    Eminem – The Relapse
    Dr Dre – Detox (lol)
    Jay-Z – Blueprint 3
Lil Wayne – Carter IV (probably coming out soon)

    those will go platinum

  37. FrontTailPenis Says:

da only album im lookin forward to in 09 is loso’s way. maybe bp3

  38. SouthCarolinaStandUp! Says:

Im from the south and I think its funny how NY is the only one picked on when it comes to record sales. Wat about the west coast and midwest? lol… and itsa funny cuz a whole lotta niggaz aint release albums from up top this year. Niggaz like Busta, Jay, Talib, and Jada working on they next projects. I cant even think of 5 major artists from NY that even relased albums this year. LOL… But go head south and lets make this money. I’m still waitin on that Blueprint 3 tho… lol

  39. Brooklyn Stand Up Says:

I’mma a Broklyn nigga and the south make records that sell nobody should hate on that its not the artist or the south fault if the music ain’t good its the fans. to me no one is on top because sale ain’t good. I sugest we all come together NORTH SOuth EasT and WEST and we just KEEP the good MC’s and blackball the garbage one’s. HIP HOP is not about east coast west coast north or south it’s about good outstanding music.

  40. Superman - Hip Hop Says:

    50 cent – Before I Self Destruct
    Eminem – The Relapse
    Jay-Z – Blueprint 3

Real hiphop artists that dont rock tight jeans or drink cough syrup.

  41. Superman - Hip Hop Says:

Fake is what sells. Rick Ross, Game, Plies, Wayne. Meanwhile guys like Freeway, Beanie Sigel, Lupe dont get noticed. Beanie Sigel is like Scarface & Ice Cube rolled in 1.

  42. mark Says:

the south is still on top???

im starting to think this site was made by a south nigga that made this just to diss new york artist..how is the south on top??

when late 2008-2009 new york been coming with heat

1.G-unit been making the hottest mixtape in 08
2.Jay-z-brooklyn we go hard hardest shit out
3.busta rhymes-arab money HOTTEST SHIT OUT!
    4.Jim jones-pop champagne SEC.HOTTEST SHIT OUT
    5.jada killing it to

  43. Xsposer Says:

Thiz guy black london is an idiot Rule. Don’t pay him any mind. The site is legit. Good lookz. Sales being so important helped kill hip-hop tho.

Wayne isnt a Legend ! He’s a smoke n mirrors rapper. Jay-Z, Nas, Snoop, 50 cent, Dre, Ice Cube are legends. Stop supporting wack music
    ————————————————

All your doing is listing the most famous rappers in the old pop cultures. 50 cent? hahaha.

  45. AJB4 Says:

When are you guys gonna give the honors for best mixtapes, you G-Unit owned that straight up

  46. REALTALKBSTUY Says:

Only reason south on top bcuz albums not being released in many other places. How many albums came out from ppl in diff regions? Plus, how come Soulja Boy(not tht i like his music) or Q-Tip up there. They both sold more than Exit 13.

  47. cormegaisking Says:

yea cuz these were all relle good albums right? these u consider rappers…there are 2 rappers that deserve that top 10 spot, nas and the game…and the games album was completely disappointing, and dun even say shit u know its true, it wasnt close to documentary or doctors advocate…not even close. its like nowadays the only way ppl like u is cuz u make a lot of money and everyones like oh shit their good than beat them and shit…. u guys dunno shit about rap if u thinking like that, 8 of the 10 rappers on this list are nothing but a bunch of sell out motherfuckers get ur paper man that wat rap is all about…thanx for ruining it…AND FUCK YOU IF U LIKE WAYNE UR…KICKS SO FLY LIKE LIU KANG please!, id like to see that guy come up with a rhyme like “At a thousand degrees celcius i make emcees melt, fuck my record label i appear courtesy of myself”…im waiting….

  48. t mac 2 Says:

the only albums actually going to the store and buying in that top ten were… paper trail, recession, theatre of mind and untitled… over all 2008 was a bad year for hip hop… when I look back now… late 2006 through 2007 was actually a good period for hip hop… 08 straight up sucked…

  49. We Sip Gran Cru...Ooooooh Says:

    just to correct some things:

    1. Lupe’s album dropped in 2007

    2. to post #15 by rule – those sales are not entirely accurate

    3. Flo-Rida is not HIP-HOP

    4. danga1181 – I agree if Kardi was from NY they would note him

    5. Ice Cube shit was not independent… he had major label distributed he just didn’t get the marketing and promo money from them

  50. josip Says:

Everyone always says it was better before. Don’t worry a lot of posters will talk about how Wayne will shit on any rapper ten years from now.

  51. josip Says:

Everyone always says it was better before. Don’t worry a lot of posters will talk about how Wayne will spank any rapper ten years from now.

  52. josip Says:

my bad I thought they didn’t accept the word “shit”

  53. for real?? Says:

    first.. WHERE IS LUPE?????

there’s a few problems i see with us as hip hop fans… the main one is that we don’t respect those that came before. we’re quick to call them not relevant and washed up. i mean in other genres they salute those before… why are we quick to give respect to the OG’s on the street but not on the mic.

Also, as a whole we always hatin’ on someone and it’s not about disliking their music b/c i really don’t like lil wayne. i’m not a hater, but lyrically he’s not the monster everyone claim him to be. half the time he don’t make sense and since when can a poet (emcee) not be about words. he’s entertaining sometimes. i respect his hustle, he did get a milli in a week but if i never have to hear a milli again i’d be happy.

we over here debating on whether or not kanye should be considered on the list. dude sold a million in a month… that’s a hustle worth respecting expecially since only wayne and ti sold more. ti’s album dropped late september, kanye’s late november… seems like somebody likes him. and maybe when he goes back to his original format he’ll be introducing hip hop to a whole set of new fans. that would be good for hip hop.

  54. Superman - Hip Hop Says:

    2009 Albums must haves:
    1.Eminem
    2.Jay-Z
    3.50 Cent
    4.Beanie Sigel
    5.Freeway

2009 Joke of the Year album
    1.Rick Ross-Deeper than Rap
    MiamiDade C.O. greatest hits

  55. Cass Says:

I never paid much attention to Plies but i just realized he hustles hard. Two albums in one year and he sold i think over 200k of Defintion of Real his first week which was overlooked due to Wayne’s hyped album released the same date. You may not enjoy the music but i think that his work ethic is respectable.

  56. Akuma Says:

    What about The Dream album?

He impacted the rap game of 2008, had more #1 hits, and he can’t even sing straight, but he wrote for muhfuckas who could.

But his own album was decent sounding, nice beats on there.

  57. County Of Kings Says:

i wonder if LL gonna blame jayz for this one too. or will he blame 50cent this time
nelly should depart gracefully before he gets the roy jones knock out cuz his numbers are disgusting
and if ya’ll niggas got a problem with the south sellin records, then support other artist. they’re fans support them they just make the music. ny fans dont really support ny artist unless ur really bringing the heat. west and midwest are almost extinct

  58. Backlash Says:

You Niggaz Must Can’t Read Or Somethin ..The Title Of This Post Is Called …”Top 10 Selling Rap Albums In 2008″,Lupe Dropped In 07 ..Thats Why He’s Not Up There ..And With That Said ..Nas!!! ..Almost At Gold, Lets Go Baby!

  59. yaboyfrsh Says:

Sumbody tell black london jump off lupe dick real talk, matter of fact jump of the niggaz dick

  60. Chanell Says:

    Word!
    Where is Lupe.
    Jis album was Amazing
And I believe he went Gold cuz he had pics on myspace holding it.lol

  61. shine95 Says:

yo realtalkny, I just checked http://www.riaa.com, and it is certified that Nas’s album
“Nas”, is certified gold (date: 9/11/2008). so that means he broke that 428k.

yo check http://www.riaa.com, go to “Gold and Platinum”, and then go to “Searchable Database” and type in the artist and label. for some reason, 50 Cent’s plaqs for his 2nd and 3rd albums ain’t pop up on there though. if these plaqs is lying then the whole industry is lyin on riaa.com. numbers lie?

I typed in Nas and Def Jam for the label. untitled or “Nas” for album title doesn’t search. but Def Jam does.
I don’t give a fuck about album numbers cause most of them albums on that list got “dumbed down” lyrics at it’s worst anyway.

  62. 50 cent Says:

    wait till my record drop

  63. for real?? Says:

    #55

i assumed it was top SELLING rap albums of 2008 and i’m pretty sure that the Cool sold more in 2008 than let’s say T.O.S…. it’s the same way that Rihanna can be a top selling artist of ‘08… people still buying Good Girl Gone Bad (regardless of a re-release)

  64. Slugg Says:

Props to the south BUT im tired of that T-pain/DJ Khaled/ everyone jumpin on each others track shit… Rick Ross, flo rida and Plies didnt have a single that they did solo… lil wayne hustles hard but is a big part of why shitty rappers are on top, Ludacris, Game, T.I. and Jeezy had good cds… ….with jay z em dre(hopefully) and 50 cent droppin albums in 09 shit should change for the best cuz this “chick-hop” is pissing me off

ps.. 808 is nothin but a weed plate to break buds on ..that shit was waaaack!

  65. FrontTailPenis Says:

man i miss the good ol mixtape days. even though fab is one of the best dudes out there lyrically you gotta admit he retarded. every CD this nigga releases he has a song on it tellin everybody he’s gangsta, wtf?! despite how horrid the tracklisting look i still ordered my shit well in advance. this nigga did not ave one fuckin track that he did my himself, is it a compilation or a fuckin album where fans get to kno u? *sighs* its the trend these days. he says he’s gonna release a concept album dat shit betta b str8 b caz datz the last shit i’ll be buying with my hard earn money. you jus gotta respect those artists that take the time to mold they shit.

  66. FrontTailPenis Says:

and his bitch ass took shots in his leg and wanted to cry

  67. Backlash Says:

    Oh Aiight ..@57

  68. datnigga Says:

yall know wut wront with hip no originality
jim jones and busta had success w/ ron brownz on their shit
now let see how many nigga will get a song w/ brownz
fat irrelevant ass joe as started already

  69. Scorpio Says:

LMFAO @ LL! Who’s he gonna blame NOW for this EPIC FAILURE? 94 thousand?! Let’s see if he has the balls to go at LA Reid, for not promoting him enough.

  70. FLAHOMIE Says:

  72. Bak2DaBasics Says:

Who still buys albums lmao? I’m surprised anybody sold a million with how it is so easy to download songs and wack mixtape DJs leaking everyones shit weeks before their album drops

  73. Chitown Says:

As many people that hated on The Game he is still a top five rapper. Me personally im hating hip hop right now and 90% of the shyt thats coming out. Hopefully Eminem, Jay-Z and Lupe bring some hot albums in 09 to get my hyped about HipHop again…..only time will tell

Wayne Isn’t A Rapper! Its His Life Fools!

  76. slcjosh Says:

too bad paper trail was a fucking bag of shit. when a bunch of white girls from utah (where i live) know every word of that garbage and i have to listen to their drunk asses screech avery time i here “sex so wet so tight” it makes we vomit and hide in shame from what is considered hip hop today. weezy was meeeeeeeeeeeeh, mediocre. the only good albums on that fucking list were ludas theatre, games LAX, and Nas untitled, only for his three tracks worth a shit, (hero, war, and sly fox). that is my two cents. now lets hope dre and em, fifty, can try to revive this suffering genre i love so much…
