The thing that people dont realize is that Hip hop is only 3 decades old and the golden era was in the 90’s…So this list may in fact change as newer artists come out. However that depends if artists are gonna push the creative envelope WITHOUT SELLING OUT or trying to change the genre too much.

There are too many good rappers that put in the work back in the day that got even better now with time being in the game… So to me there can’t be a top five (5)… More like a top 8 or 10(Who’s not dead but have stepped up there word game)… Here’s what I mean… Let’s take for example Kiss, great lyricist back in the Bad Boy LOX day’s and even better than ever now… Ludacris… Yes “Mr. Throw Dem Bows” has come from a long road of haters and has always found away to say “Move BITCH get out the way” with his albums… You may not like him but his latest album “theater of the mind” (to me) is a classic… (there I said it)… MR. F.A.B.O.L.O.U.S… this NY rapper has always had magnificent rhyming skills… But just like Kiss, hasn’t gotten the props that he well deserves…. Cassidy… The man is a problem an has always been one of my favorites… Busta Rhymes…. Any top what ever that doesn’t have Busta is just a slap in the face to hip-hop… Look at how the man has evolved with time, forget the beats people, listen to the tracks! ! ! ! The man has deff kept up with his word play… Jay Z…… Do I really have to say it….That man has broken boundaries with his raps… Juelz Santana… He’s just getting better and better with time… he’s really a trend setter (to me) in hip-hop… Nas………. hhhuuuhhh…. don’t know… really hasn’t been out there in late 08- present… but he’s doing his political thing and getting involved soooo… I mean it’s Nas…LoL… Kanye… another hip-hop trend setter…
Then there’s Wayne… forget the Million records in a week… forget the auto tune… Wayne is the best at what he does… Making music! ! ! ! Wayne will be something to watch in 09 and in the future…

Before I start i kinda agree wid #162, listing your top five is made out of your opinion therefore there is no right or wrong answer …unless u list stupid arse rappers and claim they are the best in hip hop! Big L’s gettin no love on this list, it hurts to know someone as nice as him had to fly under the radar like this. If he never got murdered this dude would be on top of the game right now today.
I’ve tried mad times to put together a top 5, but I think it’s almost disrespectful to say “this dude is the 4th best ever, this cat is 5, 6, etc…” We’ve seen too many artists come and go to categorize them like that. If I made a list of the dudes who are legends to me and who influenced me it would go on forever, there’s really too many guys who have left their mark on the game to make a list like this.
