  9. M Says:

lol at the white cats not seeing he wack sauce…….that shit was not whats up and this is coming from someone who listened and just saw this shit. I gave them a couple minutes and I’m like naw this is trash rap. Not rap for real something you feel.

  10. Mic Sorc Says:

I had to turn it off after the first 1:30. They both come across like some non-polished high school rappers. Like them cats that rarely rhymed outside of the lunchroom and now you can tell why. Cudi sucks, kid. I’ll be serious. He reminded me of Fonsworth Bentley but he got no flow and style to his shit, it was just blabbing and Asher just went to Ohhla.com and put a bunch of rappers names together that rhymed. I dont see what the big fuss is. I’m not hating, but i’m holding my hip-hop up to a standard. I’m not gonna sit here and say the shit is nice just because we aint got too many real mcs left. Fuck that. I’ll stick with the 5-7 nice ni**as in the game and thats it.

  11. Mic Sorc Says:

And i’m sorry, but i’m a realist. Once Eminem drops his next album, it’s later for Asher. Unfortunately, Eminem has set the bar too high for white rappers. And unfortunately for white rappers, he’d done just about everything so anything you say and attempt will just come across as an Eminem wannabe. I’m not being close minded, just real. Go ahead, try rhyming about drugs, women, politics, violence, racism, skills. He’s touched on it all and unless you plan on surpassing his level, its quiet for yall.

if these cats is next… ill just keep bumpin old stuff.

  13. Tre Says:

@ Mic Sorc…I understand what you are saying and why you say it but I disagree. Here’s why.

Jay-Z is arguably the best black rapper to ever exist. Does that mean that all other black rappers should stop rapping because there are people better than them? I would say hell no, everyone has their own style, their own flow, and their own solid fanbase. Good cats like Lupe, Luda, Yeezy, Weezy, etc. Don’t write off an entire race worth of rappers, it limits musical diversity.

On that note, I am a realist too and realize that most white rappers will be compared to Eminem. I would like to point out some examples that go against this though….Brother Ali, Bubba Sparxxx even though I don’t like him that much, Atmosphere (although he’s mixed somethin I think), as well as a few simmering underground cats. They all have a sound unique enough and different enough from eminem that the comparisons are rarely drawn.

    Be good.

    Tre

  14. Mic Sorc Says:

I feel you Tre, but Asher Roth doesnt come across like he’s developing his own sound, ya know. At least he’s not marketed that way. Yeah, he appeals to college kids or whatever. But he’s kinda unnecessary. He’s not bringing anything new to the table. So maybe i shouldve elaborated more on what i said. The Jay-Z point is great, but its also something i said to one of my boys. The fact that Eminem is white helped him out so much in a sense. The kind of things that he says, no black rapper can get away with. Not only would the lyrics be viewed a little different, but that type of candidness is sort of taboo in the black rapper spectrum. It seems like a good amount of popular black rappers have to stick to a set amount of topics and image that they can put out. There are a handful of black rappers that are actually 100% themselves. Like Lupe, Kweli, Mos Def, Common….the way they are in videos and on record, they go home and end up being the same person.
Eminem took it a step further and whatever he was thinking inside of his head, he said with no remorse and no filter. It goes being being just a rapper since rapping these days is just not enough. Alot of kids wanna be like TI, Lil Wayne and they find it easy to duplicate the style. Eminem could not be duplicated and any rembrance of something he has brought to the table can only be deemed a weak attempt. The world of rap music has allowed black artists to come in all variations and varieties, but only few white rappers get in and those who do either gotta bring it or fall upon deaf ears. The way Eminem broke records and the barrier put up in rap music is similar with the barriers Barack had to break in politics. Check it, there were plenty of black senators, judges, mayors and whatnot, but nobody even got as far as VP. Same with white artists in rap music. Nobody got that far really besides Beastie Boys and a few others. Eminem really had to bring it and his rise to the top of the food chain as a whie rapper is similar to Barack’s rise to power as a black man. Now alot of Black political figures are held to a certain standard. Just like white rappers are now held to a certain standard.
