The Grammys Have Nominated, “Tha Carter III,” For The Album OF The Year Award

Lil Wayne’s, “Tha Carter III,” will be going against: Ne-Yo – “Year Of The Gentleman,” Coldplay – “Viva La Vida,” Radiohead – “In Rainbows” & Alison Krauss & Robert Plant – “Raising Sand.” A rap album hasn’t won the album of the year since 2004 with Outkast’s, “Speakerboxx/Love Below.” Kanye got nominated for album of the year in 2005, 2007 & 2008. Lil Wayne was nominated for 8 total awards.
The only other rappers to be nominated for album of the year for this decade are Eminem & Nelly. Clearly the Grammy awards only like a particular style of rap and are not fans of any, “gangsta rap.” Top rap artist like 50 Cent, Jay-Z, Nas, and T.I. have never been given a nomination for the award despite their success.
M.I.A.’s, “Paper Planes,” has been nominated for record of the year. Rap nominations are below
Best Rap Album:
Lil Wayne – Tha Carter III
Jay-Z – American Gangster
Lupe Fiasco – The Cool
Nas – Untitled
T.I. – Paper Trail
Best Rap Song:
T.I. – Jay-Z, Lil Wayne & Kanye West – Swagga Like Us
Lupe Fiasco – Superstar
Lil Wayne – Lollipop
Snoop Dogg – Sexual Eruption
Flo-rida – Low

I mean it was def a good album but it wasn’t wayne in his prime.. at least flow wise for me… i’m wit the word play but he overdoes it at times, at times recycles flow but it’s straight… This was def a diff style for wayne, and I’m glad he’s bein congratulated with that.

Rooting for Ne-Yo “Year of Gentleman” was a great album. Happy for Wayne though doubt he will win but hey I doubted he sell a milli a first week so u never know.
December 3rd, 2008 at 10:42 pm
Kanye was nominated for graduation.
December 3rd, 2008 at 10:45 pm
wow i wonder did they really listen to the words or just went off the hype and media attention lil wayne is gettin these days.
the carter 2 was his best work to me, and none of his albums are grammy worthy to me.
i dont know how to feel about this one
on one hand i want him to lose so his fans wont talk so much shit
but on the other hand can u imagine what kind of fuckery he will pull if he actually is invited on to that stage to accept his award, that would be priceless
December 3rd, 2008 at 10:51 pm
The Wayne stans are doing their lil dance in hell right now cuz of this wayne nod. Coldplay or NEYO is gonna win.
December 3rd, 2008 at 10:52 pm

December 3rd, 2008 at 11:03 pm
really tho (for 2008) i liked Seeing Sounds and 808’s and Heartbreak and Theatre of Mind More
CArter III was kinda a big letdown from the 1st 2 Carters
December 3rd, 2008 at 11:06 pm
not to discredit wayne but the grammy’s only nominate artist based upon their commercial success no more no less. of course, there are other politics involved too
December 3rd, 2008 at 11:20 pm
radiohead>>
December 3rd, 2008 at 11:41 pm
Coldplay is gonna win, it makes The Carter III eat it own shit
December 3rd, 2008 at 11:42 pm
Fuck the grammys!!
December 3rd, 2008 at 11:52 pm
the album is wayne in his MUSICAL prime, not lyrical prime. He deserves it for great music
December 3rd, 2008 at 11:56 pm

“Top rap artist like 50 Cent, Jay-Z, Nas, and T.I. have never been given a nomination for the award despite their success.”
WTF! T.I. won 2 Grammys!
December 4th, 2008 at 1:11 am
Overall Album of the Year?
December 4th, 2008 at 1:26 am
Ne-Yo – Year of the Gentleman, Hands Down
December 4th, 2008 at 1:44 am
the reason the carter III won’t and shouldn’t win is because, as entertaining and eclectic as it is……..IT AIN’T SAYIN SHIT!
outkast, lauryn hill, when they won it was because there was a message, a theme, there was a point to the music. Wayne’s is very talented, lyrical and witty but he has yet to say ANYTHING.
December 4th, 2008 at 5:29 am
How the fuck did Low and Sexual Eruption get nominated. Especially Low which I personally think was one of the most overrated and irritating songs I’ve ever heard. Somethings definetlywrong when Florida’s gets a Grammy nom. What happened to the best songs getting nominated? Fucking Florida?
December 4th, 2008 at 5:59 am
Lil Wayne – Lollipop
Snoop Dogg – Sexual Eruption
they aint rap, this is why hip hop is dead
December 4th, 2008 at 8:48 am
@31 adot. Yet you think Low is more hip hop than Lollipop. Are you sure?
December 4th, 2008 at 9:20 am
why the fuck is flo rida nominated that was the worst rap song ever i think superstar or SLU should win best rap song of the year and for best rap album either jay-z, nas, or lupe
December 4th, 2008 at 10:41 am
Sad how talented folks like Alicia Keys didn’t get nominated.
Goes to show how the Grammys, just like the music industry nowadays, cares about style more than substance.
December 4th, 2008 at 11:01 am
NAZ should win that album was dope. I am not a big wayne fan anymore but its great to see his success. I hope he can become more balanced but I feel there were songs on his mixtape that deserved to be on the album more thats why ima lil salty toward him. But if you watch his mixtape game the boi is Nice period he deserves it he really does.
December 4th, 2008 at 11:18 am
He was a cute lil baby LMAO
December 4th, 2008 at 3:20 pm
It’s unfortunate that Wayne will win this based on sales. He got outshined on his album because he’s just not that good of a rapper. He’s good for a chorus or sound effects at best. American Gangster was a complete album because it had lyrics and production and it flowed.
Rap has definitely went to the birds.
February 12th, 2009 at 10:22 pm
lil wayne is cool an all. very entertaining, yes. a good album. same with all the other noms, but the album of the year should go to dallas green for his work with city and colour: bring me your love or underoath for their latest. those would be some real nominees right there. now all of you delve into some real shit and google those names.
February 12th, 2009 at 10:29 pm
i’d also just like to add that i loved lollipop just for how different and fresh sounding it was, but after i bought the album, the rest just never quite amazed me like lollipop did. sure i liked it all, but none of it made me jump outta my chair and say “Damn!” like lollipop initially did. but like i said guys, CITY AND COLOUR OR UNDEROATH. Google em.
