R&B Does Big Numbers While Rap Disappoints
Keyshia Cole debuts at number 2 with 322k records while Jamie Foxx is right behind her with 265k records sold in the first week. Beyonce is still pushing 195k while Anthony Hamilton manages 135k in his first week. In rap Plies does 114k while Soulja Boy sold 46k. (BillBoard)
R&B must not be affected by the recession because Anthony Hamilton did 135k and I didn’t even know he was dropping an album. Everyone is going to talk about Soulja Boy’s 46k and write him off, but no his career is not done. He is off to a surprisingly bad start but with consistent promotion and work he can get some decent numbers in the long run. I think, “Birdwalk,” was too similar to, “Crank Dat,” and never caught on.
Congrats to Keyshia Cole she is killing it with records sales and her TV show.

If keisha cole and jaime foxx were to promote their album around the same time jaime would of sold more. But its pretty obvious that keisha cole has been promoting her album for a while. I still think that jaime foxx is in a good space even tho he’s behind KC. I think for a actor to come in the music business and sell that amount of records is pretty decent.
As for as Beyonce i don’t know about the 195k but from what im heard her album is almost hittin platinum. As for SB lol with the whole beef shit with CH and all that other shit he was doing to sell records and ended up at 46k…LOL get em Plies!!!

Why don’t you listen to Jamie Foxx album before saying it’s garbage. He has a great voice and his album is pretty damn good. Foxx is a great actor and a great singer that’s for sure. First of all, most of the people hating on Soulja Boy fail to realize 3 very important thing:
1.) Soulja Boy’s success will have little or nothing to do with album sales. He is a human marketing machine. Millions of people still buy his ringtones. Millions of people still visit his YouTube account (which gives almost as much $$ as most people’s album sales). Hundreds of thousands will still pay to see him perform.
2.) NO ONE is buying rap albums, period. He’ll probably cap out at around 250K with this one, but so what? This guy has his own show dropping in January. No one else on that Billboard list can say that – not to mention 40K people didn’t even DOWNLOAD Charles Hamilton’s shit. Rap is in a slump right now – no one banks off of album sales. If you think this was bad, wait til Bow Wow drops.
3.) All these established rappers that move 300K in the first week (Game, Kanye, 50, T.I., etc.) all have one luxury that Soulja Boy doesn’t – THEY ALL CAN AFFORD TO BUY MORE COPIES OF THEIR OWN ALBUMS. Artists do it all the time. They disguise it by saying it’s for “promotion” – i.e. giving free copies to DJ’s and such, but plenty of artists buy 50K – 100K copies of their own albums when they drop just to save face. Don’t get me wrong, Soulja Boy is banking, but he doesn’t have the years of caking under his belt as those aforementioned performers. Give him 3 more years and I guarantee he does at least 200K from then on.
