There is enough rap out there, if he doesn’t feel like rapping its really not that serious. He’s an artist - and, I hate to break it to you, but his audience goes WAY BEYOND those that read realtalkny. Wake up, its okay to be outside the box. It’s called being diverse and evolving. I wish more people would evolve instead of making the same album over and over again….eh em…50…..

How is anyone, “hatin,” on anything? “808s & Heartbreak,” is a decent album, but I would have to say it is my least favorite Kanye album. Would anyone put, “808s & Heartbreak,” over one of Kanye’s previous albums? I can’t see how anyone would, “808s & Too Much Heartbreak,” just lacks the diversity and hits of his previous albums. So yes, I prefer Kanye to go back to rapping on his next album, he is more entertaining rapping than singing.

If 50 sells 450k in his first week of sales I would actually consider that a success. A lot of people have inflated expectations and don’t realize times have changed. I can’t look at Kanye selling 450k as a flop because he switched up his whole style on this album. How much would 50 sell if he did an album where he is only singing?

Yeah it’s not hating saying you want Kanye to go back to rap. I mean he is after all a rap artist that made a name for himself as a rapper not a non singing autotune artist doing euro/alternative/techno music.
Even though this is a decent album and I respect that he was trying something new, I’m pretty sure that 99% of Kanye’s fans wants him to go back to doing a rap album next (Including me).

First of all 808 deff was not a good album If you liked it glad you enjoyed it but for me it was d material paranoid and amazing are good tracks tho.2nd kanye flopped for his standards 950k to 440k aint addin up this album should have sold the most just for the simple fact its a combination of diffrent music genres from pop to slight rap to techno.Sugar coat it all you want but the album just didnt generate enough people attention.Yes we are in a rescission but guess what people we have been in 1 since early 07 so please dont pull that card if wayne did a mill kanye should have sold around 600k 700k or 800k or 900k.QUIT WITH THE DOUBLE STANDERS PEOPLE.

What we all fail to see is that the man is fucked up in the head right now. If he had done this same album in a more heterogenius fashion RTNY would not have needed to ask him to rap. They are trying to say that the album lacks balance. This dude Kanye has clearly lost himself and denounced the man that put him on in the first place. GOD. I hope he finds himself again. He can do all the artsy shit that he wants but if it’s not coming from a good grounded spirit withe the same love and passion for life and music that he once had. In my opinion, I love a few songs on this album, and I don’t like a few..but overall its a Good, creative, album. Its different..he stepped outside of his box, and you gotta respect that. NONE of your favorite rappers have the balls to do that, especially 50.
All in all, I think we all wish Kanye went back to the College Dropout days…but its the same as wishing 50 dropped another Get Rich, it cant happened. I write poetry, and with time, my work has completely evolved. And I CANT write the same shit i was writing a year ago. Artists can only produce work with what inspires them…and kanye has his tragedies..let the man do him.

i agree kanye should go back to rapping truthfully i didnt even listen to this album i didnt even know what the release date was. but im sure the album sucked hearing what i heard so far and that auto tune shit is ridiculous how could everybody get into that this is hip hop not auto tune hop but yall think kanye had success and is not feeling the effects of putting out a wack album. think of this he sold half of what he sold last album and he wasnt even going up against 50 or nothing. so seeing as going up against another giant will decrease your sales a little because of people buying the other album this time there was no one and he still sold half so its not really a big success but he did get good sales numbers.

I can agree that he should go back to rapping, I purchased his last CD but did not purchase this one, it is because i’m a rap fan of Kanye’s my thing is if you don’t have the god given talent to hold a note and it sound decent without the overuse of the autotune you have no business singing, I’ve heard him do that stuff loud and it sounds like my sister off key trying to sing, I wouldn’t purchase a track from my sister who can’t hold a note and I love her for life, So I damn sure aint buying it from Kanye, People take opinions way to serious these days, If you like a dude who can’t sing doing the autotune thing then by all means buy it, it’s your right, But If I say I’d rather something else before I purchase then it’s also my choice to do so I have the right not to think everything that is different is hot

I agree with Maktub, the reason why 50 has extra close scrutiny on his album sales is because thats alllll he ever talks about. He is the one who points to the album sales; he uses it to sake his claim of being the best. Whenever he shits on Fat Joe, or Game, or Nas, or anybody you can BET he’s gonna mention that they sold____ amount.
But I mean the dude goes platinum all the time, his sales are always crazy high, so thats why he gets to talk shit lol. But when he doesn’t produce, when albums like Terminate on Sight come out and nobody cares ( or even remembers, I damn near forgot it came out this year), he fails his own hype. He sets the standard for himself.
On the Kanye thing, I mean he tried to do some different shit. At least he changing it up. A large part of music is about taking the art to a new place. But we get so caught up in Hip-Hop being about $, albums sales, etc. But I mean shit it’s a recession, maybe we should be worried about $ lol.
The point is Kanye’s music always shows appreciation for Hip-Hop as an art, as a craft. He puts thought and emotion into the music; it’s crafted for quality, not just put together cause “people will buy it” or “it’s gonna sell a million.” I think we got to appreciate a Hip-Hop who gives a fuck about the music.
Now whether we think the music is hot, that a whole other story lol.
But look at M.I.A.; listen to the shit on Common’s new album (UMC); think about the shit Andre or the Neptune/N.E.R.D. been doing; think about Hov putting Santigold on that “Brooklyn Go Hard” track. Hip-Hop is going to a new places and different directions on a mainstream level. I guess the question is if it changes, is it still hip hop?

yo I’m going to settle this once and for all. Kanye has stepped out of the box creatively and that deserves credit. But that in and of itself doesn’t make his album a good one. There really should be no comparing Kanye to 50, apples and oranges.
Kanye has been inspired by experiences that have pushed his creativity a little beyond the public’s threshold, thus the clear pushback. 50’s creativity is below the public’s threshold, thus the general lack of interest in “Get Up”. The reality is this: Hip Hop as we knew it is dead. It is no longer the music of outsiders or anti-establishment rebels. It has lost what made it special.
Auto-tune is popular because adults and people who can differentiate tones hate it, it has come to represent the “anti-establishment” for young people.

I used to come on RTNY before it blew up. When Nigel couldn’t even ask for an interview of an established artist. It’s been a downhill slide for RTNY and hip hop in general. The bottom line is this: If Kanye’s music was hot, or 50’s or anyone for that matter, It wouldn’t matter if their mouth was wired shut we wouldn’t be on here talking about how they made it.
The music is no longer hot. Here and there a couple good joints come out. But when was the last time there was an anthem in music? A song we put on our clothes to on a friday night looking in the mirror? A song that after it played in the club everyone went home? The 90’s were full of them, now they are few and far between by any standards.
