T.I. Tapes A PSA For People To Give Cops Tips On Crimes

Harris is the face of a new public service announcement, airing exclusively on WSB-TV Channel 2 and wsbtv.com.The new campaign, which aims to get people to call the Atlanta Crimestoppers hot line to report anonymous tips, is the brain child of WSB-TV investigative reporter Mark Winne.
“I think T.I.’s street cred is as powerful as anybody we could get to do it,” said Winne. “There is no telling how many lives this PSA may save,” Winne added. In addition to promoting his latest project, Harris spends his time talking to kids and teens about his mistakes, in hopes of encouraging them to keep their lives on a positive course.

wow - after reading most of these comments i feel sick. I have family members who are police officers (and, yes they are black) and let me tell you they are very good people who care deeply for their community. And their WHITE coworkers care deeply as well. Are there bad cops? of course - and its really sad that they give all the other cops who put their lives at risk everyday to protect people (that simply don’t seem to appreciate it) a bad name. I would go to a cop rather than the local drug dealer anyday for help b/c, at the end of the day, I know the cop is more likely to have my best interest at heart.
I really wish people would change their perception, it makes it so hard for cops to do their job. I’m not sayin that the police are perfect and minorities aren’t targeted - yes that happens, but there are millions of good police officers who really do want to look out for us and are willing to die at a moments notice for a stranger and they shouldn’t be punished for the cops that give them a bad name.
That’s my opinion and I applaud T.I. for be a responsible artist, celebrity, and father by doing the PSA. It really might save some lives.

To me this aint about snitchin theres a wider debate to be had about the frostie relation between the black community and the police.
The black community have always had conflict with the police, look at the lawless treatment of innocent black people during the civil rights era..
Is it possible for us as individuals to respect someone we dont trust, or to trust someone we dont respect? My answer to that is no..
Im afraid to say it only takes events like sean bell to reinforce peoples opinions that they cant trust or respect the police as an institute.
Therefore it becomes the responsibility of the police to gain our trust and respect first. Only then wil change come.
It is up to the police to become a police SERVICE within the black communitys and not the stat quo as being a police FORCE.

@ Piff Da Don, Homie I feel u on alot of levels. I’ve been sterotyped on multiple occassions. More than I can count. When I lived in the hood and since I moved way out. However my job as a responsible citizen is to help bridge the gap between the cops and black community, and to continue the on going tension created by racial injustice and ignorance.
We hold community meetings with the involvement of several police forces in out area to alleviate the frosty relationship. We are see better communication annually and the crime has decreased over the last 3 years we’ve done this. As far as steet cred, and Street dudes go. Bottom line is it is still criminal activity that needs to be eliminated from our community, and the only way to do that is assist the local authorities to police the area in which we live so our love one can be safe.

Most of the people on here need to grab a dictionary and look up the word snitching. Cooperating with the police to apprehend a criminal is not called snitching. Its called having a conscience and being a decent human being.
I have a brother who has been in and out of jail practically his whole life and while we are blood there is no way I will ever take the rap for something he did.
People make their own choices and should be willing to face the consequences.
T.I. would know better than 99% of the fakes on this website what its like to deal with the police on a regular basis….He’s already been to jail and now he’s going back. So I applaud him for doing this PSA to show that its ok to communicate with the cops if you know about a crime….even though he’s probably only doing it for his community serivce.
