Jim Brown Puts Micheal Jordan & Kobe Bryant On Blast

“Athletes need to represent more than that just getting a big contract and lots of endorsements,” he says. “Take Michael Jordan. To me, he’s full of bull. He’s hiding his true self. All he cares about is getting ahead, being popular and enjoying the wealth of this country. Same with Kobe Bryant. For them, it’s all about making money and doing all the commercials.”

“Sports is detrimental to the development of culture if all you’re willing to do is enjoy the fruits of this country,” he says. “You’ve got to reinvest in the culture, not just exploit it. Today people just want non-combative heroes, who smile and say all the right things. That’s fine, but that doesn’t mean you have to play the fool and shake your butt just because you caught a pass for a touchdown.”

Do you agree or disagree with Jim Brown’s comments? I feel like sports figures aren’t obligated to be role models and what they choose to do with their money is their business. People would hope that they are generous and give back, but if they don’t you can’t fault them.

  1. G-Money Says:

Jim Brown needs to just worry about what hes doing, and what hes doing in the community is a good and positive thing, dont go calling out other athletes about what they do or can do with their celebrity…i mean really i would say he should be more mature about the situation… but how old is he sixty-seventy something???

  2. joewright Says:

Ok!!! apparentley u dont understand what the man Jim Brown is saying…I feel like he’s right in what he said about ball players, they need to stop exploiting the culture and reinvest in the kids cus they the future.

  5. Cool D Says:

Whether they like it or not they ARE rolemodels but that doesn’t mean they can’t do whatever they want with their money. They can life the type of lifestyle they want. As long as they aren’t doing anything illegal then it’s cool.

  6. ALKEBULANIAN Says:

First of all, I couldnt agree more with Jim Brown.MJ has always been a coon, and facts can back it up.He made that choice once he signed an indorsement with Nike that his goal is to only sell the most sneakers. The same thing can be said with Lebronze, but not fully when it comes to Kobe. Kobe has the most community outreach programs and service than any active athlete today. He’s one of the few that spoke out regarding darfur, and one of the first one who help Hurricane Katrina victims. The man didnt just signed a check, he went out of his way to meet victims and cater to them. Has Kobe slowed down when it comes to voicing his opinion? Yes, because of Nike and David Stern. If basketball fans doesnt know that David Stern is the puppet master, well now you know.Figure out what happened to Craig Hodges, Kareem Abdul Jabbar, Etan Thomas, Ira Newble etc. Then you will realized what happend when you stand for something politically and socially. I disagree with ya’ll sentiment to just make money and do you. Thats the same sentiment to why our community is the way it is because those that make it and given an opportunity loses themselves and their soul.

  7. ALKEBULANIAN Says:

Thanks to Brother Jim Brown to always say his piece even with so much against him. And yes, those that make have an obligation to their community and to their ancestors to always go back and help.If you’re all about money and consume the invaluable things this world has to offer.Im going to tell you, theres a bigger power out there that will check you, remember that.

They don’t need to give back and we don’t need to support them! I’m not sayin I don’t support michael or kobe but I understand Mr. brown and agree with him!

Actually he’s a great example of someone who was able to play sports be an entertainer and still be a vital part of the black community!

funny thing is these stars with money ignore rebuildin a black infrastructure (which they would pofit off of) jus to continually invest and strengthen the established infrastructure…smh! damn shame!

    great post!

CHAD DAWSON IS THE BADDEST IN THE WORLD!!! hey tarver… there was a lame duck sighting this saturday…lmao!

  11. The Bronx Says:

fuck that shit they can do whatever they want they worked hard to get that money and if they wanna give back thats up to them. Because when regular ppl make some money no1 looks to them to donate its the same shit. you dont have to be a millionair to give back.

  12. 2cents Says:

its about to be a wrap though too many people feedin into the 7 deadly sins esp. greed and glutony! All this do what you want with the money talk is jus keepin the cycle goin because someone else didn’t do for me(whether they could or couldn’t) i refuse to do for others. If you see somethings wrong and you pass that on it’s wrong period. I try to treat the folks who come after me better than I was treated by my predecessors!

  13. LatinKing Says:

Jim Brown is broke old azz man! So he being a hater right now.

MJ does a lot for the kids. Dude does a lot for communities..so WTF is that OLD MAN JB talking about? He just a hater…….

  14. BLANCH DEVOROE Says:

Michael Jordan is a great role model and has done alot for kids everywhere. He has given to various charities and donations, set up traning camps and scholarships. What does his contract w/ nike have to do with anything? Where i come SOME kids wear jordans because they wana play ball like’em and grow up to accomplish what has. Giving kids a dream or goal other than being out in the streets. Yea the shoes can be a bit expensive, but they represent quality of the his character and the brand. Or would you rather have your kid being clowned for wear’n sum Shaq”s, talkn bout eatn a$$??? I dont think so!! Jim Brwn is a hater, feel’n a lil salty. How was he looking out for the youth whn he made that wack a$$ movies w/ braxton and pam grier? Horrible mess! Mike had something for the kids…Space jam

  15. 2cents Says:

p.s. what y’all know bout jim brown? Not repectin elders and understandin what they did is another part of the issue!

y’all like these pide pipers who jus lead us to the other man’s door so we can give them our money and rest our lives in there hands! Then love to complain about how bad they are or how bad they have it in the hood…

  16. Superman - Hip Hop Fan Says:

Kobe and MJ give back to they hometown and with Charities. Jim brown need to go HOLLA @ pacman jones, T.O. T.O. soooo STUCK ON HISSELF. Keyshawn Johnson made a point 1 time he sayed that if T.O. rather playing be “MVP of the super bowl losing team…then just catch 3 balls and win a super”.

  17. Superman - Hip Hop Fan Says:

Need to go CONFRONT pacman jones. PACMAN doesnt get it next time he messes up he GO FOR LIFE from the NFL. Kobe n Mike never been in trouble with the police 13 times.

  18. KINGNOODLES Says:

Jim Brown is so right. But most of you are to blind to see that.

  19. AgentX Says:

I think Jim Brown has a point. Atheletes have a social responisibilty to the public becasue some of the things they do have a direct affect on the community. This is especially true of black Atheletes. They sell us thier jereseys, thier high tops, fast food. They live a freedom that most black people in this country (with the exception of entertainers and black fortune five hundreds) can only dream of. Is it asking too much of them to take on some social-politico stand on young black males shooting each other of basket ball shoes, or promote healthy eating and eating less McDonalds, maybe open a grocery store or twon in low income black communities? Yes I know Shaq and Marbury have shoes at payless

  20. Mr. Davis Says:

Jim Brown could not be more correct !

  21. okokokaay Says:

He’s basically telling athletes to do the jobs mothers and fathers are not doing and help raise they children.

My thing is he should be dropping this message on regular folks cuz really I dont wanna hear shit Kwayme Brown has to say about politics or any other worldly or community issues.

Play ball, donate money back into community/charity and keep ya mouth shut. Nothing worse than an uninformed athlete tryna kick knowledge. Lord knows these is all D students.

Hating ass nigga mayne that’s real talk.As for jim brown i respect the moves he makes to better up the community, but that’s a “coon” move callin out everyone’s hero. SMH at FAGGOT ASS NUMBER 6 AND JIM BROWN

  23. esnchlsptr Says:

Does Jim Brown know what these guys do with their money??.. I for one feel that there is no need to openly discuss what type of money you’ve given out.. Too many people want others to know to who and to what they’ve given their money..

  24. BigLou Says:

    Jim Brown= The truth

    MJ and Kobe= Uncle Toms

  25. black Says:

Jordan is my hero but Jim Brown IS RIGHT!

Jordan was one of the most influential black man on the whole planet at a time and the most admired black man among communities from all origins and race… he never ever used his position for any activism.
He doesn’t have to but to me it’s like not helping people in need even when it doesn’t cost you much as far as personal investment and financial.

Once gain he had no obligation to get involved but it’s a waiste
plus he won’t be remembered the same way Mohammed Ali will be.

  29. ALKEBULANIAN Says:

MJ gave to charity!!! thats great on paper.if youre blind enough to not see the underlying systematic problem with giving to charity then youll know why giving to charity doesnt mean anything. Thats the same thing with this so called divine 9 in universities. They give money to charities, and help with charity organizations. the question is who are MJ and others are helping? are this charity for the black community and other people of color? the answer is NO. The trickle down effect is not as effective as ya’ll think i.e. see the economy the we have now.If they want to help they have to do it hands-on, just like some of the things like KObe, Stephen Jackson etc. have done.

  30. Clipz
    Clipz Says:

Shit, i’ve read just about every Michael Jordan book there is, and this nigga worked his ass off to get where he is today. What he does with his money is his own business. (and his ex-wifes)

Hes involved in just about any charity you can think of, from Boys and Girls Club to tha Special Olympics.

Bottom line, worry about your own paper and what you’re doing to change the situation.

  31. Superman - Hip Hop Fan Says:

@biglou. U sound stupid kiddo. MJ & Kobe shouldnt be role models. Charles Barkley sayed it best “Im not a role model”. Its funny with this young bunch of kids now a days. When jeezy came out in 2005 everybody wanted to be a “trapstar”. Look @rick ross he watched scarface a whole bunch of times and thought he was a “drug kingpin”.

  32. ALKEBULANIAN Says:

To all the MJ fanatics. . .Name the charities MJ donated to? Name the progressive acts and activism that he did in his lifetime? go ahead Ill wait?

  33. ALKEBULANIAN Says:

I love it when people talk about worry about your own paper and do you. Yet, when youre out of your luck you wish the world can help you. When you dont get no help you start to hate on your people for not helping you. I love negro mentality just undettered ignorance and indifference.. . .. . .When MJ was doing boys aand girls club as a charity. Did he actually took the time to be there and mentor kids everyday or weekly? was it just a photo-op by showing up and shaking hands for little bit? last time, I check as big as Denzel Washington is, he actually mentors kids. You can read all books you can about MJ, it doesnt mean it tells the whole truth of who he really is. LIke someone mentioned before, MJ just like Lebron is right now is an UNcle Tom; and the master is David Stern, Billy Knight and the Media.

    Why the hell shouldn’t they?

They are both in a position of fame and should become more active in the black communities. So many regular people like myself, go around and mentor our youth and do it from the heart. These cats don’t do a damn thing for the kids that go without eating a good meal for months to be able to buy the sneakers they endorse………it’s a shame.

Jim Brown is an icon - not because he was the most dominant football and lacrosse player of all time when he was active, but how he carried himself off the field and spoke his mind and made sure you respected his mind.

How any of you ‘analysts’ could talk down on Jim Brown just shows how uninformed kids are even in an era when you can pull up somebody’s whole life story in 5 seconds online.

MJ hasn’t did anything groundbreaking with his celebrity besides help inner city kids get addicted to $150 sneakers.

  46. T Lee Says:

What Jim Brown is overlooking is the fact that today’s Black sports figure don’t necessarily have to be combative. NBA superstars are far from puppets & maybe they don’t realize it or maybe they’re just not of the same cloth. With players shipping off to Europe at the speed of light at 3x the pay, players like Kobe & Lebron could go far & beyond without much resistance from Stern to “reinvest in the culture”. Simply put, a lot of young black men take up sports to “get ahead”. Since when did an honest living become so punishable?
p.s. I don’t want or expect my heroes to be athletes, my heroes should be these councilmen, congressmen ,senators, mayors & govenors supposedly representing us(they’re the fake ones). And would someone please tell Jeff Johnson to step it up & quit pointing fingers. He seems like the type of young civil rights leader we need to be a hero.

  47. BigLou Says:

    @Superman - Hip Hop Fan

actually 6′4 225…….but why you’re so concentrated on my body frame I’m not too sure about…..

anyway homothug, my point was these coons are actually in a position to lead but want no part of it…

    PS……..get off my dick

  48. 2cents Says:

lol what are you talkin about? If they don’t realize their power/responsibilities or are not of the same cloth that fits into what Mr. Brown is talkin about.

And who said these guys need to be punished for playing ball? You are so missing the point! End of the world is around the corner…

and he isn’t overlookin anything… no one said be combative jus speak your voice; not shut up because someone is payin you to!

  54. BDot Says:

I feel what Jim Brown is saying, but he uses a poor example.

Basketball was invented by a white man, so exactly what “culture” are they exploiting? Two, just because these dudes can run and dunk a ball, that doesn’t mean they owe society anything. Though, I agree that if you’re in a position to better your community, go for it.

But being famous doesn’t obligate you to do so.

…And Mike & Kobe are very poor examples to use anyway.

Regarding sports figures, these two are pretty much saints when compared to your AI’s, Ron Artest’, etc etc.

  55. 2cents Says:

    BDot, your trippin a lil..

if you don’t know what “culture” or can’t ID the people being exploited by sports then you’re at a lack of info!

and AI and ron ron do alot for the community from what I’ve heard the difference is the companies people like Kobe and Jordan work for protect their image more than the image of an AI or ROn ron but that may all be for profit too… and an extention of the exploitation! not sayin all exploitation is bad either!

  56. DJ Rooster Says:

What the heck are you all talking about….I make average money and I can’t afford to go and see even 1 game a year. Tickets cost too much! How can I support someone or a team when I can’t even afford to go and see them play live. These players need to realize that more than just rich people would like to go and see a game….and if you are lucky enough to go see game….god help you if you get thirsty or hungry…you might as well be on an airplane for what they charge you for a drink and food! NBA is for rich people….apparenly they don’t want the lower class showing up at the games or they would make it affordable. the last game I went to a game (suns)was in 1993 in Phx and it cost me $35 a ticket for nosebleeds. If the players took a minor pay cut…maybe 1% then maybe they could set aside a few seats that actuall woking class people can afford. If he NBA isn’t about money….then hell will be frozen shortly.
