50 Cent Says The New Album Will Be Darker & Speaks On His Movie

Before I Self Destruct is darker and harder than last year’s Curtis. 50 Cent wrote much of the album while he, as Curtis Jackson, was also penning the 90-minute film of the same name that would be his directorial debut.

The film Before I Self Destruct is a coming of age story about an inner city youth raised by a hardworking single mother. When his dream of becoming a basketball player fails to materialize, he finds himself employed in a supermarket. After his mother is tragically gunned down, Clarence (played by Jackson) is consumed by revenge and takes up a life of crime in order to support his younger brother.

“My film captures the harsh realities that reflect so many communities today. There will be some who will greatly identify with the characters and the situations presented and then there will be others who may be shocked at the struggles that go on in the inner city,” states 50 Cent. “I made the film for both groups.”

According to 50 Cent, he wrote much of the material found on the Before I Self Destruct album, which is described as a darker and harder musical offering than 50 Cent’s previous effort, Curtis.

The 2007 release, which included the hit singles “I Get Money” and “Ayo Technology,” reached No. 2 on the Billboard 200 and R&B/Hip-Hop Albums charts, selling more than five million copies worldwide.

wow ! what a unique never before done story ! i mean can it get any more original than this ?

can ANYBODY tell me if there is a story like this in the record shop, the cinema ?

i mean through out the 90s ( thats 10 YEARS !!! ) nobody ever came up with a story like this, not in the 80’s or 70’s either. but ofcourse 50, this kid with a story we have no heard and seen a million times, rounds off 2008 ( another 8, that EIGHT years ) by coming straight from the innovative mind of Curtis Jackson !

Thank you Curtis, G Unit sales have been failing because of 1000 niggas tellin the same story, then comes 50, with something totally out the box !

i think , really, people need to realize that there are no struggling brothers in the hood who try to keep on the right path no matter how the world is pulling them right and left. These brothers think they being ” strong ” cause they dont take their pain out on other people !
How can these suckers succeed without dealin dat white ?
Na they just fake cause they cant deal with the guilt trip.

so as i pour out my formula 50 , yall need to realize the un-greedy, un-vain , unfaggety genius of Curtis ” 50″ Jackson

And big shoutout to the girl taking habesha people everywhere ! Angel “Lola” Luv

id hit it ! ( na i really would )

Yo, this sounds exactly like Get Rich Or Die Tryin’. You mean to tell me after almost 10 years in the game, you cannot come up with a different idea besides copying the same success you reaped off that album? Your regurgitating the same shit back out to us, Curtis? What makes this story any different?

Besides after watching State Property, I officially gave up on movies with rappers as the lead role. I’m done. Stick to the mic, ni99as unless your name is Mos Def. None of yall cats is moving me.

co-sign #4 and 11

the greatest trick a rapper ever pulled was droppin an album and movie exactly identical to the shit he did a few years. and for some odd reason his fans still pray to the statue of 50 religiously. its amazin, posts #1 & 2 are livin proof. all hail the king.
he should keep the name “b4 i self destruct” on the movie and album and then when u sheep open the album it will actually be get rich or die tryin and then later that day when u stans march to the theatre it will be the old movie too. after that even i’ll have to become a fan

Mic Sorc wrote on October 14th, 2008 at 2:57 pm

5 mill worldwide for what? his past stuff? fine, thats cool and he get credit for that, but what some of us as avid hiphop supporters wont stand for is the fact that he’s is duplicating exactly what he did before and expecting some of yall to fall for it. In hip hop, that retarded. its wack as fuck when one person bit the t-pain effect then everybody started doing it. now it was wack that Curtis bit the Eminem movie/album idea and now he’s doing it again. Fuck the albums he previously sold, that old shit just like this idea again is old shit. What happened to being the juggernaut in hiphop that introduces something new. His success was focused around being new and fresh. Smarten up, son

I’ve been trying to tell all these 50 Cent haters, the reason this man continues to top Forbes list and talk sh*t about everyone is due to the fact that he has yet to produce a Commercial album that has flopped.

Kanyes last album did well,3.6 Million to this date.50 Cents last album did well,8.2 Million to this date.

So what’s the moral of the story?Outselling a rapper in America is easy as pie;Outselling a rapper Internationally is where the real fun begins.Kanye West did not outsell 50 Cent, and judging from the hip hop community response to his new material,it appears Kanye West will never outsell 50 Cent.

Now proceed to call me a 50 Cent d*ck rider etc etc, since that’s the only response you can come up with when the numbers are tallied.

Let’s hope 50 can regain that spark. Altho im still amazed that he was able to take Ja Rule’s spot/style and run with it, he’s smart enough not to play himself out and lose his edgy persona. That’s his bread and butter. White kids are about to abandon him as soon as they realize the blk community left his ass awhile back. Check T.O.S for proof

guess what… it is what it is! In the game people tend to repeat and repeat and repeat… thats why theirs lil to no growth!

This album was still suppose to come out when the curtis album was dropped though and f who sold more as long as both are eatin its cool for them as for me the consumer its about the music and Curtis’ shit seems blazay blah while Kanye who’s last 3 albums were great in my opinion lost his cotton pickin mind so neither will be supported by yours truly. Killer Mike … I pledge allegiance to the grind!!!

ThugLiscious wrote on October 15th, 2008 at 9:40 am

According to 50 cent ….name a source that says he sold that many albums. I went back to check the charts and I stop counting when this nigga’s album fell way off the chart at 1.7 mil worldwide and that number includes the states. Vivendi lied about Curtis album sales…..Also Kanye’s album charted higher in sales during the same weeks, so he definitely sold more then Curtis…….he is not certified by the RIAA I check that too….not since 2006 not even for any singles either…..so dont give me that bullshet that Curtis sold that many albums…….get a life 50 nuthuggers!
