Scarface: “The Whole Internet Should Be Locked Up For Copyright Infringement”
Damn kind of harsh there, doesn’t the Internet help promote artist? I will say some sites do get carried away and post way too many songs from albums but it hasn’t stopped artist like Lil Wayne & T.I. from having great sales.

i love the internet. i think he’s got a track wid trey songz
October 17th, 2008 at 11:46 am
old ass mo fo lol… To me the internet is like a car dealership..
Internet= car dealership
Free download= test drive
If you like the test drive the your gonna buy the car…
Sh#t i remember the days when i would buy an album and there was only 2 good songs on a 12 track album wtf.. If your puttin out good sh#t then the internet is your friend.. If your an artist who consistently puts out only 2 good tracks on an album.. Then pay backs a mutha uckin bitch and so is the net lol
Thats y artist like busta wont do good numbers of an album anymore imo because hes a two track album rapper..
October 17th, 2008 at 11:48 am
He’s just mad cuz he hasn’t learned how to utilize the internet in his favor. Maybe if you had some vids on youtube, a real myspace page, a few songs on itunes, and an actual internet presnce you wouldnt be saying that.
October 17th, 2008 at 11:54 am
^^^^^^^you can’t keep the car for free after you drive tho….most of my people burn albums and don’t buy them, so that arguement can be made…..I remember how I bought IT Was Written the first day it came out and had only heard a couple of songs on radio….there is no eagerness anymore
October 17th, 2008 at 12:13 pm
Good analogy on the car dlr thing. Only thing about test driving at a dlr, you cant go and sale that test drive to a random nigga for 5 bucks while he waiting for a line up.
I think what face probably meant to say was that the internet allows people to download music for free and then the computer allows them to mass produce copies which are sold to the general public at a discounted price.
T.I. said it too recently. He dont care if you DL his album but if you like it, go buy it. He dont like when niggas DL it and go make copies and sale it at the barbershop ect. Its not like they giving him a percentage of the profit. And I can dig that.
October 17th, 2008 at 12:19 pm
rappers need to stick to music and evrything else just stfu. scarface is a great rapper but him callin mccain rracist names and going ape shit about the internet doesn’t bring him a buzz which I think is what he is trying to do. he just comes off as someones disgruntled and bitter angry grandpa
October 17th, 2008 at 12:22 pm
Some people shouldn’t be allowed to voice their opinions, its not the 90’s anymore when the East cost had music on lock and music was pretty shoved in their face and where it was only access to music its more advanced. Nas album leaked a week ? or 2 before it came out I brought, T.I.’s I aint heard it because I want to buy not download it, Lil Wayne’s was leaxed and he went plat, so the internet aint to blame. Its the artist making wack ass music and expecting people to just hand over their hard earned cash. Gas prices are up food prices are up, the economy is in bad shape and you expect people to be so willing to hand over their cash ? If the music is hot people will buy it simple if it’s not hot you won’t see a dime. Luda will sell , Jay-Z, Kayne West, 50 Cent etc; if your music hot people will buy it if its not go back in the studio and put out some quality music not no lacklusture music and expect people to buy it. Scarface should be locked up for having a stupid opinion
October 17th, 2008 at 12:30 pm
Scarface can suck a dick!
I’ll still be getting my songz..and wont go to jail!
October 17th, 2008 at 1:47 pm
#6 you are a fucking stupid,how could you say wayne went plat and be confortable with that,its just one fucking rapper man 10 years ago everybody could go plat easy if they were godd or had hits,those people you mention wont seel because they are the best,and some of them are but they are simply the most famous and the ones that got the more publicity you bitch,theres a lot of great cds that doesnt sell because of the internet,so yeah that its the main reason people dot dell anymore,the rest is trash
October 17th, 2008 at 1:59 pm
No matter what opinion anyone has… The internet is guilty of
copyright infringement. Point blank. There can be NO debating that…
Now maybe some artists are good enough to survive that, but
that doesn’t mean it’s not breaking that law. If the police will
raid DJ Drama and Cannon for making mix CD’s citing copyright
infringement, then what do you call what goes on on the net??
I would go as far as to say EVERY album and movie is available on the
net somewhere for free…
October 17th, 2008 at 2:19 pm
it works both ways the same rappers who moan about copyright infringments are the same rappers who also are just as guilty of what they excuse the internet generation of doing..
How many mixtapes have you heard where rappers are spitting over a popular instrumental that they havent cleared the track with the holder of the copyright???
In the long run these artist are profitin also from copyright infringments because they are usin popular intrumentals that they have stole to create publicity for their flow…
Y is it fine for rappers to take without permission but not for us??
October 17th, 2008 at 2:19 pm
Cuz Wayne is tht nigga. T.I is up there too. Em is the next to have strong sales. 50 wil lhave respectable sales, Dre will FLOP.
October 17th, 2008 at 2:55 pm

I personally don’t agree with any of it because it will eventually end it all.
It’s enough for all to be compensated fairly… First thing that has to happen
is the greedy labels have to stop making 8 out of the $10…
October 17th, 2008 at 3:11 pm
lmfao uno what that kind of bill would be??? if google is worth billions just picture everything together
October 17th, 2008 at 3:58 pm
What he means is.
The internet killed my career. And I’m hating.
October 17th, 2008 at 3:58 pm
I download music
and lots of it
but its not my fault
its just wats goin on now days
but i feel what hes sayin
if it wasnt for the internet
most your favorite rappers you see wouldnt be doin reality shows and movies and clothing lines ect.
back in the day people use to not have to worry about anything but just making music..but now since people
download, its taking away the money from the artist. so which means after their taxes get cut..and the label takes their cut from the album..the artist left barley anything…i personally think thats why alot of rappers who dropped albums last year are dropping new ones this year..because niggaz aint eattin..so the internet should be locked up..
October 17th, 2008 at 4:12 pm
$outh$ide H-town, Stand up! legend in the Game, face ain’t hurting for $$ - The net is making it harder for him to get ALL his $$.
October 17th, 2008 at 4:14 pm
@ 7 I’m not happy with him going plat but you can’t hate him or dislike him all you want but the fact is he did. Well I agree their was alot of more rappers going plat but their is a reason the music was much better, the Internent if it was around was not that popular only access to music was to listen to the radio or buy the music. Maybe if these artists didn’t take what they were selling for granted and kept grinding and putting out quality music. The fans have gotten alot smarter their telling the artists we aint putting up with your Bullshit music anymore if you aint hot were not buying your shit. I agree for some people who aren’t as well known won’t sell like big artists in the mainstream, I think the fans have to take a blame for that some fans just want music in their fans nobody want to search for quality music they just music thats pushed in their face through the media. In saying their is alot of good CD’s that didn’t sell their is alot of more bullshit CD’s that selled and went plat, gold , etc; rappers can’t expect people to be willing to hand over their money where every countries economies is struggling and the price of living is going up and up.
@ 10 you are crazy if you really think Dr.Dre will flop
October 17th, 2008 at 6:27 pm
@veracious
rapping over an popular instrumental is only copyright infringement when you sell it…thats why they raided DJ Drama…DJ Drama pays the rappers to rap on the beats(or he calls in favors)…DJ drama then in turn sells the mixtape which in turn is commiting copyright infringement..so basically the person selling the mixtape is copyright infringing not the people on the mixtape
…so you’re gonna need a better argument than that…The internet definitely is destroying the music BUSINESS…That whole “Promotion” shit is bullshit Nigel and you kno it…whats the point of promoting a product, when you’re only promoting the date when i can download that shit for free…rappers made way more money before the internet got big so kill alll of that noise…stealing is stealing dont try to rationalize it just cus you do it…at the same time tho,I download free music that i wouldnt normally buy, and most of it isn’t even worth the download time, so I aint gettin got for no wack music especially in a recession..scrath that cus even if it wasnt a recession, I min college so i’d still be needin all the money I got…Now rappers really have to form a bond with the customer for them to buy it, which is hard to do with a million people

Technology killed hip-hop - Q-Tip
October 17th, 2008 at 7:16 pm
@ detroit
Your missing the point like a 3 throw shot… Although the artist doesnt make money of a track, their stil goin to profit thanks to the exposure they will get from a popular track which hasnt been cleared by the copyright owner. Get it? The same way an artist exploits the copyright infringment for their gain, so does a downloader…
October 18th, 2008 at 1:01 am
wishing for ppl to get locked up over music.. real gangsta..
whatever tho, he’s prolly jus mad abouT $.. even tho TI paid him nuff to say he’s the new king.
October 18th, 2008 at 6:41 am
Basically the internet separates the men from the boys..haha!
Naw but its a new game, learn how to play the shit in ya favor!
October 18th, 2008 at 10:06 am
@veracious
You obviously don’t know what copyright infringement is…that is called “Fair Use”….and “benefiting” from copyright infringement IS NOT copyright infringement…you could say the Fans of that artist Benefit from the copyright infringement because they get new material from their favorite artist, you could say the producer of the beat benefits because he gets even more exposure..you are speaking out of ignorance, therefore your argument is without value or merit, so I will leave you to your fumblings
October 18th, 2008 at 11:06 am
Scarface is like an old guy in the horse and carriage business complaining when the car was invented. If you don’t know how to adapt, you’re gonna get run over. That’s life.
October 19th, 2008 at 10:12 am
@detroit
of course the artist benifits from any exposure he gets, people who may never of heard that artist may decide to listen to the track soley because the artist is usin an instrumental their familiar with, and from that the artist may hav gained a new fan.. So for u to say the artist doesnt benifit is ridiculous Smh
October 19th, 2008 at 11:45 am
dat nigga is right internet is killin hip hop cuz pussy niggaz like jim jones can hide in it and diss others from a far and poeple can download free music damn
October 19th, 2008 at 10:47 pm
before you talk about fair use, you should understand it. Its mainly in place to protect educational institutions like libraries or schools that play music or would copy music for the sake of teaching a course & its use on the internet is pretty controversial but its obvious when your violating copyright and not.
Its considered Fair use of music if:
1. The person using the work of music must be for non-profit or educational purposes;
2. The copyrighted work must be suitable for educational use, criticism, research or other non-revenue-generating uses;
3. The work must not be used in its entirety or presented in its entirety without adding any commentary or supplemental educational material;
4. The use of the music work must not alter the value or accessibility of the work to others purchasing or paying royalty fees for commercial use of the work.
Sounds like uploading music to blogs definitely alters the value of the work (aka once you download it you arent going to rebuy the single again) & they upload entire mp3s and most blogs like this one arent non-profit.
That idiot reporter said “rappers are making more money than they used to”. Its obvious she hasnt seen either a modern recording contract or an royalty statement from any of these so called rappers. Just because they floss on TV dont mean that shit aint rented or leased, there are several ways to keep up an image. You think the record labels are making a killing but you are too ignorant to research the fact that almost all of them HAVE ALREADY gone out of business (MCA, Virgin, A&M, Elektra, Arista, TVT, etc). Because of music piracy online over 75,000 jobs in the industry have been lost over the past 3 years. Now all you have is Interscope, Universal & Atlantic…Sounds like they are really making a fortune still!!!!
