I have this topic come up so often in my barbershop that it’s ridiculous. Some cat thinking that he’s hip hop goes “what you think that new T.I. gon’ do first week?”. When he should be asking have I heard or bought it & what it sounds like. And I make sure that I point it out every time!
I blame 50 Cent because he started actual numbers rap. Sure we heard raps about goin gold, plat, or multi. But not the depths 50 talked about.

Now that’s hip-hop. You can read so many posts on how people think a rapper has fell off or not making good music cause their not selling. Has anyone heard of free downloading or the fact that we’re in a recession (duhhhh). The 1st thing we can do as hip-hop fans is stop worrying about how much an album sells, that’s for the industry. #2, I download also, but if an album is good go out and support. It’s like Jeezy said, it’s nothing like tearing off the plastic on a bangin cd and cranking it in the whip. IT’S NOTHING LIKE REAL HIP-HOP PEACE!!!

You can’t blame rappers for fans focusing so hard on record sales. If you a true fan of the music, why would a record going plat or gold really matter?

The problem is fans focusing more on what their favorite rappers are wearing, driving, and putting in their bank accounts.

But none of that has anything to do with good emcee’n

hip hop has been turned out by corporations, so the culture is infected with the corporate mindset which is focused on nothing more than money..

..and this is a double edged sword because hip hop- being a dominant voice for the downtrodden and oppressed- now promotes entrepreneurship and financial success but at the expense of the art form and the spirit of the people..

Thats obvious… been beatin capitalism in the head since I can remember! Folks talk about bein unique all day but be the farthest from it once you find out bout them. Most folks jus wanna get used (i mean get money) so they do the regular and rely on the regular which is sales, jewels, and expensive clothing! Which all take money from my community and fed ex’s that sh!t express to the billionaire’s I’m bout to lose taxes to so they can pay off their business debts!
