Stop The Madness: Eminem Voted As The Best Rapper Alive Over Jay-Z
VIBE has today announced Eminem as the winner of the Best Rapper Alive competition. The Detroit native beat out New York’s rap king Jay-Z in the Final Round with 69 percent of the votes, crowning him as the people’s choice for the true king of hip hop. The results of the contest are detailed in VIBE’s November 2008 issue hitting newsstands October 21st.
“It’s obviously an honor to have won the fans’ support by being voted the Best Rapper Alive,” says Eminem in response to his victory. “I don’t think that there is any one rapper that is simply the best though. Everyone who was in consideration and many others are the best at certain things, and at what they do. But since Vibe’s offering the distinction, hell yeah I’ll accept!”
More than 920,000 votes were cast since the contest began on July 21, 2008.
Em hasn’t even dropped an album since 2004 and he is put over Jay-Z?

Best rappers alive when you get into the best of anything its certain things that you have to look at. I’m from FLINT, MI (MIDWEST) Things are diff over here, and Hip-hop comes from NY yes but when your making music you have to understand what music is. Music is what moves YOU yes YOU from Rock to Pop To Hip-Hop to House Music; it simply is what you the person likes. From what I see Jay-z has millions of fans and so does EM,, you can call it race you can call it what ever you want but nothing can take away from the fact that Em is one of the few rappers that has went DIAMOND (10x) and that’s just talking sells right. So lets get deep, Jay talks about hood shit and what he went through to now of a ballin out club coppin business man that’s coo, EM talked about his life and wife and momma an so forth so what does that mean. It means what I said b4 Music is what moves YOU so if you don’t’ like it then don’t listen to it, However em made Lose Yourself that was a very inspiring song an im not saying Jay doesn’t have any its just that song related to so many because its saying you only have one shot so when you do something just go hard and lose yourself and anything can be done thats powerful. Wow. Are you guys even getting whats being said here? It says “Best rapper ALIVE”, so that automatically disqualifies Biggie and Pac. Secondly, it doesnt count who’s dropped the most recent album or what not(RTNY? seriously, u should know this). It’s based purely on the skills on the mic’, so judge on that.
Sorry to disappoint you jay stans, but I’d pick Em over jay though. Jay is nice but he’s not on Em’s lvl.

Eminem has been able to maintain his actual consistency for a long time now.
Jay-Z is great too, no doubt about it. But if you look at the actual soundscan you’ll see that the general public doesn’t consider him the best artist. Em has sold over 16 million records off of one album. Internationally Eminem is a monster and can’t be touched. I myself have been able to create a space where I’m dominant in the world market. I think Eminem deserves the title as best rapper alive. Check the actual sales.

Ummmm, Em hasnt put out any new material in like 4 YEARS! People change and shit changes. HOV has been consistent for 11 consecutive years, 10 albums later, tied up there with ELVIS. How many albums has Em put out…like 3? lol. How can you even compare the two. It’s ludicrous! Why? Cuz Em took some time off and gave people time to miss him? Em seems like the type of talented rapper that would burn out. Which is why he took such a hiatus. He can never go years straight with consistency. When he was last on the scene, he had that fire due to his f*cked up past. All of his LPs were based on how f*cked up his life was, with either Hailey, his Moms and his chick. So, we’ll see what his driving force is with this upcoming LP…But dont be disappointed if he’s not quite the same…And if he does come with the fire, he’s had 4 YEARS to compile all of this material…
But regardless of anything, no one has proven themselves quite like HOV. He’s a force to be with reckoned with and hands down the best rapper we got in this industry with Nas close behind. F*ck Vibe! I love Em, but he can’t beat Jay-z. Line for line, Jay can rap over anything, you never Em on a hot R&B cut, you never heard Em destory another big name rapper in a song, you never heard Em on a hot club joint, you never Em with a pop singer(I know people will hate on that one).I could go on and on about what Jay-z has done and Em hasn’t. This is all opinion based first of all… In my opinion Jay z is the best rapper ever but i definetly understand someone taking Em over Jay… What I dont understand is why people keep bringing up renegade like its the only song Jay z ever recorded??? Yes Em’s verse was better but that by no means AUTOMATICALLY makes him better than Jay. Thats the only justification i keep seeing that he is better, “Just listen to renegade and you will see why em is better!!” If thats the only justification yall got then thats wack as hell. I got plenty of why Jay is the best, here’s just a few….
1. He’s consistent, he drops hit after hit since resonable doubt. (and no im not saying all his albums are is good as RD)
2. You can clearly see his growth, both as an emcee and as a man…
3. His flow and delivery are 2nd to none, he can rap slow, fast, and he fits on damn near any song, from a Nas track (Black President) to Raphael Saadiq (Oh Girl rmx) to Amy Whinehouse (Rehab)

Em has a HUGE fucking fan based, his following is on some crazy shit. On the global level, he’ll outshine J on any given Sunday. And that’s just keepin’ it a 100. Obviously Em is great, but we all have to realize that he gets even more props b/c he’s a novelty due to his skin. Its both a disservice to Em and the rest of rap. Em deserves respect for his dedication to the art and his skills but while other rappers may be just as skilled, Em gets a headstart b/c he’s more acceptable to the mainstream
