Know what… Reasonable Doubt it mad overrated, Jay’s rap skills were sharper on his later albums; you can’t tell me that his vocal delivery on Can’t Knock the Hustle was better than it was on So Ghetto, off Vol 3.
The main reason this album is considered classic is because of the beats. And those were simply a product of the times. That’s what hiphop sounded like back then. There are good songs on here but not every track is classic – unlike Doggystyle, Illmatic or Ridin Dirty – for example that track with the Fat Joe vocal sample on the hook is wack.
This album has the status it does because of Jay’s longevity and sucess in the game. If Jay never put out The Blueprint and never made the millions he did, this album would only be remembered, as a solid but not classic album, by hardcore fans of mid-90s hiphop.
Im sorry but after watchin this i jus had to Comment, this Album was off the chain Fuck what you other people above are sayin the lyrical content nd subject matter and the way he deliverd throughout each song was dope this is when Jay-z was hungry and at his best
LOL at Lamont Coleman…you obviously didn’t grow up in NYC…you wasn’t runnin the clubs in the 90’s….you don’t know what this album felt like at the time…fall back, this ain’t for you.
