Eminem doesn’t have any classic albums imo…he has made some really good songs but like realtalkny said, he puts too many bs songs on his albums that shouldn’t be there…MMLP is a pretty good album, and the Eminem Show is the closest to a classic album he has had, but there were some songs on that album that didn’t need to be on there…he is a great lyricist and he did outshine jay on renegade, but as someone pointed out, that was his beat that he produced plus jay was out of his comfort zone on that record…but the bottom line is jay has several classics and em doesn’t…and jay’s wordplay/metaphors/double entendres have been better than Em’s…either way they are both great. and we will see if Em can make his next album a classic.

ok heres my take. Im a hugeeee Em fan, hes my favorite and I think he’s the best. I feel like my opinion counts because I listen to so many artist and respect so many as well. Nas is 2 and J, 3 on my list. But kanye and lupe are my favs for 2 and 3. As for why I think EM is the best is because He did it all, better and bigger than everyone. Everyone loves to crucify him for his pop sounding records (he did it too much on Encore and that album alone) but can you blame him? It was those similar songs that made him the HIGHEST and BIGGEST rapper on the planet to date (sorry kanye and wayne). Its always the songs you hear on the radio. Try listening to a whole album and you’ll see he goes beyond just talking about his mom, hailie, and kim. Yes those are his main subjects, but there just as much as his sunjects as Jay talked about hustling, Pac talked about death, etc. EVery rapper has them. The Slim Shady Lp he introduced us to the crazed, poor, trailer type trashed life he rapped about and experimenting with drugs and ways of killing people. MMLP(fastest selling rap album EVER) he returned with hate towards critics complaining about the violence and vile lyrics he raps. MMLP was and probably is his lyrically best album. Eminem Show was his golden year to me. 8 Mile was released along with the plat selling soundtrack and Oscar he recieved for Lose Yourself. Eminem Show was his best overall album to me. Encore was just good and thats it. It wasnt as great as his previous albums so everyone slayed him for it. The guy went 5 X plat and over 10 X plat worldwide and its still looked at as a dissapointment. The thing is he tried to mix up all his personas in one album and we got too many playful songs. He’s put out 4 official albums (i dont count infinite even tho it was pretty decent). Out of thos 4, id say there all classic in my eyes, cuz ive followed him as an artist and always respect the direction he goes in. But as for the general public id say he has 2 which are mmlp and emshow. even if u say Jay has more…. dude put out more than 10, he better have some heat in that lineup. Ok, now is the time to put all this nonsense to rest. I haven’t even read all of the responses to this post. To be honest, I stopped after the first 6 or 7 because I couldn’t take it anymore. Here are some key factors that should affect your decision to crown Marshall Bruce Mathers III as “The Best Rapper Alive”

First and foremost, get it straight. I’m not some white boy trying to stick up for Em because he’s “just like me”. As a matter of fact, I’m not white……. hell, I’m not even mixed. I’m just a light skinned black man in love with hip hop. I’m not an Eminem Stan either. Now true, before Lupe Fiasco, Eminem was my favorite rapper of ALL TIME, but in no way am I nut riding.

Now, on to business. First and foremost, everybody knows Eminem is white…… yes, that’s true. Yes, it’s true his skin color has affected his record sales, but the truth is….. if Em were black, it WOULD be a different story. If Em were black, you WOULD be calling him the best rapper alive. Before you jump down my throat, let me finish. Eminem’s most lyrically accomplished album, “The Eminem Show” came out in 2002, right? In that same year, Jay-Z dropped “The Blueprint 2″ which (besides “Kingdom Come”) was Jay-Z least liked album among most fans (don’t get me wrong, I LOVED BOTH of those albums, but it seems the rest of you didn’t). If you base the “Best Rapper Alive” title on that year…… Eminem’s album was better than Jay-Z’s two disc. If Em were black, they would’ve been claiming HIM as the best in that year, not Jigga Man.

Next up, “Renegade”. Now, it’s true…… Marshall COMPLETELY KILLED JAY on that song…… but that doesn’t make him a better rapper than Jay. In all honestly, I think Jay is the best rapper alive, and Eminem is still #2 (Sorry Lupe), but just because you outshine someone on a track doesn’t make you better than them overall. I mean, look at “Swagger Like Us”. T.I.’s verse DESTROYED everybody else that was on the original version (including Jay), but doesn’t that make him better than Jay, Wayne, and Kanye? NO. Just at that time and place his mind was more creative. Another instance is “Mr. Carter”. While I DO NOT AGREE THAT Lil Wayne outshined Jay (keep in mind it took 3 verses from Wayne for people to say he was better than Jay-Z’s 1 verse) most people would (lie to themselves) and say that Wayne’s verses were far superior to Jay’s.

Next up, let’s talk about the albums. I see on here that a few people posted the fact that Eminem has only dropped 4 albums compared to Jay-Z’s 10/11 (whatever, I lose count). I would just like to point out the fact that more albums doesn’t equal better skill. Jay-Z’s crown jewel (in my opinion) “The Blueprint” is better than most albums you’ve ever heard (”Tha Carter 1-3″ included). You can drop a lot of albums, but if they lack substance, then it doesn’t matter. Jay is one of the few artist that has been able to stay consistence for 90% of his career. Eminem is known for putting a few corny songs to satisfy the pop portion of his audience. You can’t knock him for that because they’re the people who (along with hip hop fans) got him where he is today. He can’t ignore them anymore than he could ignore the people who count on him for on point lyricism.

Which brings me to my FINAL POINT……. LYRICS…… Sure, he drops songs like, “Puke”, “Just Lose It” and “Rainman”. But let’s not forget gems like, “The Way I Am” “Til I Collapse” “Renegade” “Say Goodbye To Hollywood” and “Stan”. With lines like “Imagine going from being a no one to seeing/ Everything blow up and all you did was just grow up MC’in”……. you CAN’T SAY THAT MAN WASN’T KILLING IT. And people say he’s fallen off because he ain’t putting a new mixtape out every full moon. Em told ya’ll what he was gonna do on “Soldier” (”Full of controversy until I retire my jersey/ Til the fire inside dies, and expires at 30″) so it’s not like he misled you to think he could put out albums forever. I honestly won’t even sit here and quote all of Marshall’s quotable. I could quote him more than a little Wayne fan could quote Weezy. The purpose of this post was to inform you all of why Eminem should still be in consideration when discussing the top five MC’s of all time, and #2 without question of all rappers today. I think this is for the general public to decide. But if you look at the actual soundscan, Eminem has been able to go multi-platinum or more with almost every album. His last album, Encore, sold 9 million records worldwide. That’s 1 million short of being diamond. I think the general public has spoken that they consider Eminem’s actual music to be classical.

Em got SLim Shady lp, Marshall Mathers LP, Eminem show as classics and encore had alo tof good songs. Everyone knows EM is lyrically great can hold his own against anyone and in my opinion lyrically better than jay. Em has 2 legit classics(Em Show and MMLP). SSLP is close to a classic IMO. Infinite is amazing, lyrically, but I guess that’s not being included here.

Em’s underground work is AMAZING. Hellbound, Scary Movies, Stir Crazy, etc, etc. Jay’s put out more then 8 albums and has 2 classics, Em’s put out 4 and has 2. Em’s underground work is way better then Jay’s. To me, Jay isn’t even 2nd best alive. Nas is.

Eminem is one of the best rappers we’ve ever had. Stop with this this color coded nonsense. The guy makes great music. He has at least 2 classic albums, he can rap, period. Eminem’s first 2 are classic, hands down. eminem show is ok, encore was decent. If you listen to eminems underground stuff (remember, this is best rapper, not best albums) theres no way you can say he’s not top 3…listen to songs like Murderer and Infinite, just to name a few.
