maino has NOT dropped a classic single or classic album.
if nas or jay z or another NY legend said something like this I would agree. this is like someone on the New England Practice squad (the dudes on the sidelines in regular t-shirts) telling the team to "step it up" .

if the dude above thinks rick ross had a top 10 album of the year, then i will pray for him.

I'm from the BX and I know people say we're the birthplace and whatnot. I've been listening to Hip hop since forever and I like Nas, 50, Jay, Diddy and all them but I gotta say he's right. Maino is not the most lyrical rapper out but he does have a song that makes you wanna sing along...which is one thing hip hop is meant to do. Outside of NY people really do still call on the old heads but that's only because we in NY don't give the new ones a chance. It's either they're beefing with each other or we're too busy expecting perfection. I mean look at Soulja Boy...this dude is definitely not the most lyrical of anything but he's selling and making hot records. This is only because he has a fan base. New rappers from New York most of the time, probably never, ever get that fan base.

I remember in high school we used to talk about 50 when he was mad underground that he would get big. We used to talk about Grafh, Fab, Juelz and all them young dudes and most of them never went anywhere. Back then they had support but that's because hip hop has changed now. I remember I used to get hype over hearing a new dude who could rap his ass off or just used to talk shit like 50 and i'd buy his mixtapes and get that connection. But now it's really a whole other story. I just download all the new shit and there's not much shit coming from everywhere that I wanna hear that I don't pay attention to the local ones as before. Even when I hear them I expect perfection or something and just be like it's hot and keep it movin, IF it is hot. I just heard this track called REALTALK NY by 2 dudes that I think are from NY but I don't even remember their names. The song is mad hot though but they probably won't go anywhere simply because of the NY State of Mind. We never give anyone a chance. Sad, but true.

I like Maino and I can tell he speaks from the heart basically what he's saying is he dont understand what happend to the New York dominance in hip hop. Im from the south stayed in Atlanta b4 outkast popped off and I know what he mean you GOTTA LOVE YOUR CITY/HOOD and make other people wish or be proud they from there. B4 Outkast popped off I say 90 91 niggas in the A was not reppin it like they do now Outkast brought that southern pride in pimpin style kango's and shit I did not know them Dre and Boi personally but I was proud of them and proud to be livin in Atlanta then. Just like how when Big Jay Nas Jada and X made niggas proud to be from New York. LOL I remember when I was in Atlanta in 89 and a nigga from New York came to our school EVERYBODY thought he was the coolest nigga ever because he had a swagg that folks around there didnt have. True in Atlanta we had our own swagg but we didnt notice it till and respect it till Outkast came out that our shit was tight too. So what Maino is saying is that folks in New York need to be more dominant now kinda how they used to be hell thats what made EVERYBODY world wide love, respect, FEAR and try to be like New York niggas but now it aint like that.
