Ne-Yo Debuts With 250k Records Sold While Nelly Sells 84k
Starting right behind at No. 2 is Ne-Yo’s “Year of the Gentleman” with 250,000. The Def Jam effort comes on the heels of two No. 1 bows for the artist: 2006 debut “In My Own Words” (301,000) and 2007’s “Because of You” (251,000).
Nelly’s “Brass Knuckles” (Derrty/Universal Motown), the rapper’s first studio set since 2004, enters at No. 3 on The Billboard 200 with 84,000. Four years ago, he dropped two separate albums on the same day — “Suit” and “Sweat” - which debuted at Nos. 1 and 2 with 396,000 and 342,000, respectively.

Ne-Yo stays consistent and a buy each of his albums. Nelly was gone for way too long and lost a lot of his audience. None of his songs really popped of, although, “Body On Me,” was cool in my opinion.

Good for Ne-Yo!!! He’s one of my favs and the other 2 albums plus all of the songs he has written for other people have been very well put together and written. I even like that new song he wrote for Old Kids on the Block lol!

Nelly needs to reinvent himself artistically in my opinion, and focus on hit making. “Body On Me” was a cool listen.

Nelly deserves them sales which they were lower he calls himself a artists yet apart from one song its all features ? What does that say about him ? He can barely make a album without features like Fabolous and The Game. They need features to make their shitty albums hot. I thought Nelly was gonna do about 60K. So he went beyond my expectations but other than that he needs a new style and all them singles didn’t help.

I said this last time. when Nigel was talking numbers like he the accountant for he rappers. Sales only represent that the artist has a song that is radio freindly enough to make people purchase.
For example, we all agree that Nas is a better rapper than Nelly. And if Nelly sells more units than Nas, that does not mean artisticaly Nelly is better than Nas. It just means he’s radio and video friendly.

for a commericial rap artist like nelly to only sell 84k when his whole career is based upon the pop charts is a HUGE HUGE EGO DEFLATOR… it’s like your girl banging flava flav.
as previously stated if women, teenagers and white folks arent into your music you are not going to sell.
in regards to TI, he will sell about 500k the first week at a minimum since the ladies love him and the teenagers dig his music.
