Can Micro SD Cards Replace CDs?

SanDisk on Monday announced a partnership with all four major music labels in a deal that’s set to bring future albums to MicroSD cards. The preloaded cards, dubbed “slotMusic” media, will be sold at brick-and-mortar retail locations as an alternative to the CD.

Interesting idea if you full up the cards with exclusive content like videos, interviews, pictures etc. But having a bunch of cards would get annoying and you may lose them. Should labels just keep everything digital and give up on physical sales?

I’m with you on the whole digital solution.
Apple has already took the giant step forward in making digital downloading very convenient with their store and everything you can get there, also with the availability of itunes gift cards so you don’t have to register a credit card if you don’t want to.
The SD card idea sounds like failure from the jump. This will push more people to just download illegally. Lol How about car radios coming with SD card players! haha

It would make more sense to put movies and tv shows that have more than one season on the SD card. Like all the season of the wire. Or the matrix 1-3 on one Sd card. Saves space money and very covient.

SD cards are tiny. Can be easily lost.

nahh… Doesnt make sense… maybe 5-10 years from now their will be another form of technology that will store the music.
I think Apple’s Concept makes complete sense.
But more so, the reality is.. People are not going to be compelled to buy music anymore without having an incentive to go along with it.
Couple thangs…
1) Eventually we will able to buy music online and transfer it to our car/phone/mobile device wirelessly.
2) Getting multiple albums, means multiple SD cards. Makes no sense.
3) When the hell are these automotive companies going to get 2 ounces of a brain and build hard drives in cars. That’s a huge market. I almost want to create something like that myself.. It makes perfect sense. Consumers hate having to swap CD’s, plug in Adapters all the time. Make it seamless and just put a damn hard drive in their.

lol i would not suggest micro sd’s,, they are too small for messy people.. normal SD cards are better but i would more suggest mini HD drives that are at least visible from a distance.

I had a Mini Disk player back when MP3’s and Mini Disk were coming out. The disk were better then CD’s and at the time when MP3’s had a small amount of memory, but to carry around all those disk was/is crazy. Gota go digital

they are trying to get rid of programs like limewire by adding fake music files and corrupted files but at the same time you have torrent sites. And even if people werent using limewire you can still BURN a copy of a cd and sell them or give them to your mans and them. and even if you werent that primitive you could take the audio file off the scan disk and duplicate it into mp3. if the file was protected then you could play it into an audio interface and record from that interface(recording of a recording) then burn it, sell it or give it away. Record companies just need to figure out how to adapt. Ringtones??? maybe?? Singles?? maybe. Album downloads???Or maybe they should just put more effort into promoting strategies for their artist or find BETTER QUALITY MUSIC. (lil wayne sold 2.5 mil no matter how many he bought)

CDs are an endangered species

terrible idea, no ones buying that shit, if the record companies were smart each one would set up there own itunes themed shop on their company website, or cut deals with all the software companies that create programs like limewire and kazaa and force the other companies who cant compete out of the market so people would have no choice but to purchase online. . .because itunes is making a killing and it almost cost them nothing to maintain.
Prediction:
A lot of major artist in the future are going to be leaving lables to set up shop in their home. Your going to see a lot more independant artist putting their own music online taking an itunes approach. Imagine going to Jay-z.com and being able to purchase his whole catalog of music for your listening pleasure along with exclusives and never before seen footage of concerts etc. and all purcahses made end up in his personal bank account. Record companies will be obsolete in the future and the management and marketing companies will be booming.
Why am I, a 21 year old college student who occasionally smokes pot can forsee this and big time money earning record and software execs cant. . .
Some one should hire me as a consultant

earlier this year I met a guy who sold micro-sd-cards packed with music. 1gb full of music for $25. he sold quite a lot of them, so if he can do it the big companies can do it too.
