Natalie Cole, Whitney Houston, Mary J. Blige, and even Gladys Knight had her struggle with alchohalism. I think that when an artist struggles in their life, it shines through their music, they write better and that's what makes it legendary and classic. That's how an artists builds rapport with their audience. Not saying that Amy Whinehouese has made anything legandary, but from listening to Alicia's music it just seems her life has been pretty easy. I mean "teenage love affair"? It just shows that's about all she has to write about. A grown ass woman still talking about back when she was a teenager. What's going on in your life today? That what's I wanna hear about.
