Poppin Or Floppin: Kanye West - Love Lockdown Live
Kanye West - Love Lockdown Live
Thoughts on the performance and song? I think for the VMA’s it is a better idea for artist to perform songs everyone know but to each his own. Not really feeling this song as a first single.

Song goes hard, but I bet it sounds better recorded than live tough.
September 8th, 2008 at 6:48 am
The Song prolly sounds better on record.
It takes balls to perform it live first knowing you not really a singer and that an audience is always less enthusiastic with a track they never heard before.
Kanye never been afraid to take risks and I respect that a lot.
Dude be wanting to sing for a moment now. It used to be very bad. It’s still not perfect but its way better though. It should be clean after studio magic.
September 8th, 2008 at 6:52 am
boring trends of the day. He’s so self contained you can’t compare him to any other rapper…The man has built his own lane.
September 8th, 2008 at 7:00 am
yo all respects to kanye, but i don’t know whether to put his ass in the RNB section or the hiphop section. what is with this singing bs. catchy hooks = kool. a whole fkn song… com’on son.
September 8th, 2008 at 7:03 am
The beat was hot the lyric were alright. Any dudes lookin for a dude to snuggle up with? Holla @ me
September 8th, 2008 at 7:07 am
Kanye GAY AS SHIT!
September 8th, 2008 at 7:10 am
This wasn’t/isn’t hip hop its just good music…I was confused, and a little disappointed when he performed this too. After listening to the lyrics this song is crazy. I cant wait for the CDQ. If your not willing to embrace change Kanye’s music will never sound good. This song will be another #1 for him if he pushed it to be…Stronger didn’t get much initial love either.

IMO Kanye has fallen off since College Dropout. Kanye used to speak on real hood shit, real life shit. Songs like “We Don’t Care”, “Two Words”, “Spaceship”, “All Fall Down” and quotes like:
“sittin in the hood like community colleges
this dope money here is little Tre’s scholarship
Cuz aint no tuition for havin no ambition for havin no ambition
And aint no loans for sittin your ass at home
So we forced to sell crack, rap and get a job”
Kanye wasn’t a street dude, but not everyone in the hood is. He was a regular 9-5 working dude strugglin to make his own livin and I loved that about him cuz I could relate to that from College Dropout and the first 2 Freshman Adjustments, etc. Ever since then, he’s become a pop star and has been putting out bullshit. He may be in his prime with Graduation but that album was subpar. Overall.. he’s changed his sound to appeal to white people and asians, which takes away that real “Hip-Hop” sound he had when he first got on. But then again, almost every artist seems to fall off as soon as they get bigger. I can no longer call myself a Kanye fan. And now he’s even singing and doing whatever Lil Wayne is doing. SMH.

they raped the shit out of the vocoder nowadays

I dont know how people even debating over if this song is hot
this song is crazy one of his best, if you cant see see it u part of the percentage who don’t get it with is always higher the percentage that do. check yourself what percentage is you ?
kanye great song cant wait for the album and his song was the best performance at the show
September 8th, 2008 at 8:39 am
STILL AN EPIC FAIL. YE YE JUST FAILED. FAIL.
September 8th, 2008 at 8:45 am
Horrible. Just horrible.
September 8th, 2008 at 8:51 am
kanye is very talented. you don’t see 50 or wayne with a voice that can actually hit notes correctly, yet kanye can. i mean i don’t dig the auto tune… but i think this song is pretty damn good and he could do it without the auto tune. why he chooses to use it??? i dunno, blame cher i guess. and who ever was saying the crowd wasn’t feeling is a fucking moron. obviously they’ve never heard it before, so they were trying to catch the beat. SHAKING MY GODDDAMN HEAD…
September 8th, 2008 at 8:51 am
That song is a hit
whether ya like it or not..
stop hatin
September 8th, 2008 at 9:03 am

Soulful Shit Is Good At Times..
September 8th, 2008 at 9:20 am
the shit was crap no matter how you slice it.
September 8th, 2008 at 9:23 am
wayne was best performance of the night
September 8th, 2008 at 9:44 am
iv dcided so what if he was off key with the notes, most rnb singers are off key with notes the same way (rhianna) lol.. Imma judge it on lyrics coz kanye a wizard as a producer so im sure he can SMOOTH THE VOCALS OUT lol
To be creative you have to take risks.. Im gonna wait for the CDQ b4 i give my ultimate decision.. Its a big shock to see kanye make a track like this, and a greater shock to premier it at the vma’s.
September 8th, 2008 at 9:48 am
i remember when stronger first dropped
dudes was like wtf is that
lol
the people that buy albums will love this record
if ur hating on this record, u dont buy albums so who cares what u think
September 8th, 2008 at 9:57 am
KRS One might have been right. Kanye is getting further and further from hip-hop. He can be experimental and do tracks like this, but it is NOT hip-hop. Don’t class it as that.
September 8th, 2008 at 9:59 am
1st this is a 2nd or 3rd single at best. 2nd if he keeps using that voice shit he is gonna loose some creative respect from some including myself. 3rd his performance style reminded me of some 80’s shit which is not a bad thing since the 80’s is back. 4th the over all mtv show was wack. Probably the worse I ever saw!
September 8th, 2008 at 10:04 am
this is kanye’s version of lollipop. Trust me when yall hear is 2nd single, its gonna SHUTDOWN. I heard it already when I was in Denver.
September 8th, 2008 at 10:21 am
THIS IS NOT HIP HOP BUT WHO CARES?? It’s a good song and Kanye surprised everyone with it like he did last year with “Stronger”. Btw I liked Kanye’s singing more than Rihanna’s although he’s not a singer!! I feel like Kanye’s Sound is sliding more and more into a European direction. I like it and I hope there’ll be some Remixes by Boys Noize, Justice or similar. I bet A-Trak gon’ do one.
September 8th, 2008 at 11:01 am
Id rather watch fox news than kanye perform that song live again..
September 8th, 2008 at 11:02 am
Id rather watch fox news than kanye perform that song live again.. and i say this with the utmost love and respect for ye
September 8th, 2008 at 11:04 am
Sadly I agree with Tre
September 8th, 2008 at 11:45 am
Miss me w/ this Love Below shit…Got everything that Kanye has ever done but I’m not co signing this…Sad to see a potential great get caught up in fads and caterring to “the other side” of the game…Do you thing Ye get ur Euro love, look gimmicky right alone w/ T-Wayne… I’ll just keep listening to Nas and Common
September 8th, 2008 at 11:53 am
since when did different=good?
September 8th, 2008 at 12:47 pm
How did Kanye make his songs more appealing to ASIAN fans? I agree that he made it more POP and MAINSTREAM, along comes the white fans. He knows/wants it to be more mainstream cuz now it will be heard. His goal was to rock STADIUMS and with Graduation (and possibly his new music), he will.
September 8th, 2008 at 12:48 pm
I am a real Ye fan but a gotta say that : KANYE SUCKS on this track. He’s motherfuckin rapper not a singer. He can sing, but he got a lot of work to do to be like Cee-Loo.
September 8th, 2008 at 12:48 pm

September 8th, 2008 at 12:49 pm
i don’t want to hear kanye complain but that was a let down he should have did half the song and then do the good life song last year his performance was way better i was expecteding alot from ye but you know he’s going to say he had the best show ever that’s what he does
September 8th, 2008 at 1:11 pm
I totally agree with post #35, Different does NOT equal GOOD. Kanye has begun to focus on different instead of good. All rappers want to be singers..the shit is pathetic! T.I. singing, Kanye singing, 50 Cent singing, and they all are garbage. The only reason that half of you are even cosigning their bullshit is because you dont have shit else to listen to. Trust me when I tell you fam, HIP HOP IS DEAD!! Nas spoke truth when he said that shit man. Kanye hasnt been on top in my opinion since his first album. The second album was decent, and the last album had about 3 bangers and thats it. Good Life was the shit!! The rest of them joints were just aiight man. You cats be fallin in love with these artist as individuals so you think this new joint is hot because you like Kanye as a person.

September 8th, 2008 at 1:17 pm
I hope this isn’t a single. Not feelin it…He needs to stick to what put him on top, which is his flow over dope beats…This whole new direction he’s tryin to go is NOT the business…
September 8th, 2008 at 1:48 pm
I think it’s brilliant and here’s why:
What Kanye did here is push the envelope ever so further. This song isn’t hip-hop in it’s purest form (or faintest), but that does nothing to discredit his status as an hip-hop artist. I love when an artist explores with new genres and sounds, just like he did with Stronger (taking from Trance/House/Electronica). This not only exhibits his wide array of musical knowledge but it also shows hows ballsy he is to dabble in newer sounds that are possibly unfamiliar to some of his fans. I do agree that CD quality will sound much better.
I also agree that his content has dropped slightly since College Dropout, but there’s a legitimate reason for that. College Dropout was his coming out party; his grand debut so to speak, because to the mainstream fan he was an unknown or a background guy. On College Dropout he had a message, a theme and a selling point. I think it’s a classic. But with fame comes change and we saw that with Late Registration. Graduation was sort of a symbolic event in which he basically told the industry and the world, “I’m out, watch me shine.” It’s as if he “Graduated” from the beginning stages of the industry. Remember in his verse for “Put On” he said “I got the money and the fame, and that don’t mean shit”, well this new song displays that. You think Kanye cares that there will be some to bash this song? I’m sure on some small level it’ll be a shot to the ego, but I think he’ll take this an run with it and use the criticism to his advantage.
So like I said, I’m all for this song and what he did here, and I do live by the “to each their own” principle, but all I ask is give the song and the style a shot.
One last thing, I disagree with whomever said that this is Kanye appealing more towards Whites and Asians Lol I see what you mean by that, myself being white, but why would you go about your argument in such an isolated manner? If you read and see Kanye’s blog you’d realize he’s into many European things like architecture, music, fashion, etc and he also takes a liking to non-material things which aren’t a main part of American culture. Once again this relates back to his whole Educated style, whether it be scholastic education, emotional/physical education or social education. I give the man props for being well-rounded and that’s why I truly think his music is an art, the same way people argue that for The Beatles and all those other musical/artistic movements.
September 8th, 2008 at 1:55 pm
you are out of your mind if you think ythis is wack!
can’t wait for the album to drop!
September 8th, 2008 at 2:34 pm

September 8th, 2008 at 3:15 pm
I think american hiphop is stagnating.. Hiphop one of the most contemporary genres of music is beginin to sound tired, uninspiring and to polished… That kind of raw youthful energy has slowly drained away from the genre.. Once an artform its now just a business with old white men dictating what music gets aired and what music gets shelved..
I think americans need to listen to some grime, mayb that wil inspire the rebirth of hiphop the way it should b..
September 8th, 2008 at 3:23 pm
HOT HAITAN GARBAGE..WHEN YOU GET FAMOUS U LOSE REALITY…THE COLLEGE DROPOUT WAS A CLASSIC
September 8th, 2008 at 3:47 pm

I DONT LIKE it CUZ ITS A YEEZY SONG I LIKE it CUZ ITS A GOOOD SONG. Fyi, I need da air yeeezy!!!
September 8th, 2008 at 4:03 pm
that shit was actually kinda hot once you get past the autotune..
I think this album is definitely going to be a ” Hey Ya ” type of off tha Wall outkast shit… if you ask me.
I wish he would lay the AUTOtune to rest..We’ve heard nearly 2-3 years of that shit, i think it’s safe to say that its no longer wanted to be heard.. I hope his whole album isnt ‘Tpain’ like… because if it is.. people arent gonna wanna hear that from him this time around…
I think if he were to sing that straight up.. It woulda been a bigger testament to how good the song is.. and woulda won more people over…
September 8th, 2008 at 4:23 pm
no rapper should ever make a song like this.. this is gay. i have been saying this for a while now. kanye is killing hip hop.. as u can see from all the bloggers on here who think this is hot… its getting to the point where if someone is different they are considered hot to some people… kanye west is killing hip hop.. 10 years from now if shit keeps going in the direction its going rap music is not going to exist anymore. atleast not on tv. look at the mtv awards.. the only rappers who were there was kanye,ti , and lil wayne.. wtf is that about… u fans are killin hip hop and u dont even knw.. how is that hot… if 50 did that song, the same people saying its hot, would say its wack.. u young people are fuckin the game up. lil wayn was dressed the like the host was. his jeans were as tight.. i mean kanye and lil wayne i think they want to be white.. the want to be excepted .. u dont see rockers dressing like us. y are we tryin to be like them… this shit started in the streets. not in the garage
September 8th, 2008 at 4:33 pm
Too risky of a song to perform for the first time at an awards show.
If I was Kanye I would have closed the show with “Homecoming w/ Chris Martin” then cut into the new song for a minute or 2.
Not that it matters I will still anticipate Kanye’s new album even though the first song didn’t meet my Kanyeezy standards.
September 8th, 2008 at 4:46 pm
PROPS TO RELOADED FOR POST 42!!
@dolo (52): How can Kanye be killing Hip Hop if he is making a song that is NOT Hip Hop?
If anything is killing Hip Hop, then it’s all the artists making songs at 126 bpm and faster. Because that’s where House Music starts.
I think people like Common (with “UMC”) and Kanye (with “Stronger”) show, that Hip Hop is still alive. Hip Hop has always been exploring new styles. Otherwise it would have been dead years ago. Music must evolve and so does Hip Hop.

Kanye - Heartless (Live) poor quality, great sounding though
September 8th, 2008 at 6:32 pm
Love the beat and lyrics…the hook, not so much
Definitely not a hip-hop song either, but I think it’s dope.
September 8th, 2008 at 7:22 pm
watch this song go number 1
September 8th, 2008 at 7:53 pm
Look, I have no problem with Kanye pushing the envelope. But stop labeling everything you do hip hop. Most of this shit is Pop or RnB so why not call it that? I have always respected Kanye’s creativity, but most artist lose that when they become Hollywood. Im sure we can all agree on that atleast, that Kanye is an ‘attention whore’ who would die to be considered Hollywood. Well Ye’ you got your wish, because College Dropout will be your first and last classic album. And like I said before, most of you only like this garbage, because you dont have much of anything else to listen to. Hell, all of your favorite artist are corny these days.

September 9th, 2008 at 1:35 am
This song reminded me of Bohemian Rhapsody or something.
September 9th, 2008 at 1:37 am

September 9th, 2008 at 8:42 pm
This nigga trippin! I fck wit Ye more than a lotta artist out here but this jus ain’t my cup of tea the format and beat are weak as fck to me!!!
If the was a joe blow track nigga’s would murder this character… now folks callin it prolific jus cause its Ye but they probably the same people who thought the drop out album was wack!
@ 60 3stacks Joint was pretty good IMO. Not sayin Kanye’s album won’t be (and not sayin Dre didn’t have a wack track or 2 even though I can’t say so) but this track sucks!!!
September 9th, 2008 at 10:59 pm
beat hot
September 14th, 2008 at 10:08 am
poppin! let 50 mock if he wants he cant make a track like this
September 15th, 2008 at 9:08 am
Ye’s my dude and performing this song at an event such as the MTVMA’s is alright, but to actually make this a record and for your album, NO WAY!!!!!!!!!!
If Ye don’t watch out he’s going to be out, with the people who dig real hip hop. Ye’s not the hard core dude and you can respect that cause he’s REALLY Talented and he doesn’t front and pretend to be someone he’s not and he has mad style. But he’s starting to loose it, stop with the voice coder sh*t and spit like you still care, before he made heart felt sh*t because he wanted to prove to people you can move differently(not look like the pro-to type rapper) and still be nice, but now????????????
September 16th, 2008 at 10:08 pm
I must admit that I am very disappointed in Kanye for dropping such trash. He should have waited a while before he went back into work on a new album. He should go back to his college dropout blueprint because at this rate he is on the fast track for failure!!!!
