Robin Thicke Speaks On Not Getting The Cover Of Vibe Due To Being Caucasian
Q: What is it like trying to break the color line from the other side?
Thicke: When I did a recent interview with Vibe magazine I asked, “Why can’t I get the cover? This is a magazine I love. If there’s one magazine that I’d want to be on the cover of, it’s Vibe.” Their response was they don’t have white artists on the cover; that the only white artist they’ve had on the cover was Eminem. I guess if that’s what it is, it is what it is. And I respect that because I live in a house with a black woman.
I won’t use the word “racism.” I will say it’s a tough — but rewarding — fight.
Full Story: Reuters
Not feeling the reverse racism by Vibe magazine, a Robin Thicke cover would sell in the black community.

Being a black person, I can honestly say thats messed up. I know Vibe magazine has a target audience and that audience happens to be black. However, talent should speak for itself. Robin Thicke is a talen soul/r&b artist that is well respected and liked among the black community. I have no idea why Vibe magazine would refuse to put him on the cover. Shame!

Allot of vibe readers are white too is out of order on vibe’s part, like rolling stones puts black artists on their covers.

EXCELLENT STATEMENT ROBIN “I won’t use the word “racism.” I will say it’s a tough — but rewarding — fight” BECAUSE NIGGAS WOULD BLOW EVERY LITTLE WORD YOU SAY OUT OF PROPORTION!

Obama/Biden 08!!!

thats just stupid on vibes part, vibe can benefit from him being white and puttin the white guy on the cover.
whos in charge over there
August 29th, 2008 at 4:15 pm
ain’t know White Powah in that shit. The fuck was yo dumb ass thinking about?
August 29th, 2008 at 4:24 pm
There’s always two sides to a story. I haven’t heard Vibe’s response yet but the worst thing that could happen to a magazine is to be labeled as racist…so watch Vibe to have Robin on the next cover lol. BTW..Justin Timberlake was on the cover a couple of years ago so it’s not olny Eminem.

Honestly I would think they would know what it’s like to be discriminated against so why would they do the same thing?
August 29th, 2008 at 4:33 pm
Just because Vibe is an Urban magazine who focus on black artists don’t mean non blacks who do black music shouldn’t get a cover. Another thing is that I wouldn’t be surprised if most of the folks who buy Urban magazines like Vibe and source are actually white. Just like hiphop music where majority of the customers are white.

i lost all respect for robin thicke when he started dedicating whole songs to the devil…
If anyone listens to his “MAGIC” track you can hear him sing..
“i took whatever gift the DEVIL offered me, because i knew that he would set me free”
Explain that robin thicke smh..

Truth be told, Thicke just wasn’t that hot. Vide is one of the few consistant hip hop/r&b zines. They want what’s hot. Now, Dinero was on there with 50. I guess they coulda threw Thicke on ther with Wayne or Pharrell. Some shit. But naw, he isn’t that cold.

“reverse racism”
There’s no such thing as reverse racism. Racism is racism..PERIOD.
Anyway I don’t know every detail in this case so I’m not gonna call Vibe racist. I need to hear their story first

Racism: 1. The belief that race accounts for differences in human character or ability and that a particular race is superior to others.
2. Discrimination or prejudice based on race.
WHAT THE FUCK IS “REVERSE RACISM”
August 29th, 2008 at 6:15 pm
@14veraci0us….you a silly nigga this what robin thicke said
“I know sometimes sometimes you feel no hope
But I’ve been down off that lonely road
I took whatever gift he offered me
Because I knew that he would set me free”
so that sounds like he is talking about the devil…if so prove it
August 29th, 2008 at 6:27 pm
@23 and anyone else..
You can clearly hear this near the start of verse 2, “i took whatever “DEVIL” offered me, because i knew he would set me free…”
howeves if you google the lyrics its totally different “i took what ever gift he offered me, because i knew that he would set me free…”
YOU HAVE TO LISTEN TO THE ACTUAL AUDIO!!
August 29th, 2008 at 6:30 pm
Thats not a good look on Vibe’s part and I doubt Thicke has any reason to lie because that’s not even what the convo was about…great artist though
August 29th, 2008 at 6:31 pm
Love Robin, and he is an authentic artist. Peep a live show. Love ‘em.
August 29th, 2008 at 6:38 pm
Cosign#19 ..And If This Is True, Vibe Should Be Ashamed Of Dem Selfs.
August 29th, 2008 at 6:47 pm
I’m gonna wipe my asss w/ the pages of Vibe now after I eat some very spicy mexican food and have explosive diarreah.
August 29th, 2008 at 6:54 pm
Well…..fuck Vibe. Every damn month they have lil wayne on the cover, and Robin and Wayne are real close. Why can’t he get the cover or any white musician for that matter?
Fuck vibe.
