A bio on the group is below.
The world today often praises decadence, contrived images, and fallacy. Rock City demands to challenge the repressive standard, redefine the game, and represent authenticity at any costs.
The two brothers were born Theron and Timothy Thomas in the U.S. Virgin Islands. They were raised on the 32 square miles of St. Thomas, also known as Rock City. Raised in extreme poverty, their lives consisted of an aggressive work ethic, family, and, of course, music.
In their teens, Rock City began building a name in St. Thomas. Performing at talent shows, releasing three independent albums, and by their high school graduation in 2000, the duo knew their next goal would be the States. Despite limited means, the two made their first stop in Miami and eventually landed in Atlanta, one of the hottest scenes for up and coming artists.
After a chance meeting with DJ Benny D, Rock City landed their first major placement for songwriting on Akon’s double platinum CD Konvicted, penning the song “The Rain”. Their songwriting credits grew with artists like Busta Rhymes, Nicole Scherzinger, Eve, and Grammy winner Usher.
In September of 2006, the Caribbean duo were officially signed to Akon’s Konvict Musik and are now expecting the release of their debut album, appropriately titled Wake the Neighbors. Their infectious first single “Losing It” is already waking the neighbors. The song, written, produced, and composed, by Rock City is already receiving radio airplay and gaining rotation on BET.
Ordinary meets astounding is the story of Rock City, a duo that encompasses talent, struggle, and success. Wake the Neighbors is only the beginning of their inevitable longevity in music. Considering hip-hop is suffering what many journalists and artists themselves are referring to as a “death”, the boys of Rock City are a refreshing and a much needed relief. Rock City is here to resuscitate hip-hop.
