“When you first get into the music business, you’re excited to be there, you want to make records that everybody’s loving.”But, after you’ve got years in the game, you wanna give people the real side of you, show people some character.

“Life is good; there’s yachts, there’s nice cars, there’s movie roles.”We overcame… but, in the middle of all that… you can’t forget about the ones that didn’t make it with us. Life is good, but that still doesn’t erase all the horror out here.”

-Nas

Rapping about cars and jewelry is ok, but you got to give some music the working class can relate too. Most people won’t be driving a Bently or Lamborghini in their lifetime. Jeezy got a few Lamborghinis but you see he is rapping about people struggling these days. I think it is all about having the right mix of content.

Nas has always kept it real like this as he is man getting older he realises somemof the things he rapped about were cool for when he commin up now he got biger issues on his mind, he says in one of his songs that they way he used to flaunt would embarass him today

    real nigga

  2. Ahijah Says:

You’re first album is your introduction so you rap about you’re struggle thats how it should be for me anyways so people can feel you and relate if they struggled and shit. I can’t relate to rapping about cars and shit that don’t relate to me. I think rappers are scared to switch up they want to stay in the comfort zone IMO because they are scared of losing fans, Nas is different to these other rappers and he always keeps it real.

  3. Champ Says:

A lot of ppl rap about the bad but a lot of other rappers are saying basically the same thing, so its easy to talk about it but to say it in an original way seems hard for most rappers bcuz this is how their life plays out: Father leaves, mama broke, sells drugs to help mama, gets arrested, a couple of times, becomes a rapper. Then a lot of ppl don’t want to hear pain, rap can be used as a way to escape it so that’s why they speak a lot of luxury when they got it.

  8. shine95 Says:

#4 is programmed by the music industry. I’d like to call you a music zombie. right now your’e being hypnotized by the Doug Morriss’, and Jimmy Iovines’ of the game. remember that’s these guys million dollar budgets that they give to these rappers, so when you only care about record sales and what sells, your’e buying into these executives views on what they think rap is. selling records can really make you a sellout cause your a music slave to these record execs not a hustler homie. get that shit straight. it ain’t all about swagger all the time if your’e excusing having swagger with genuine rhymeskills with dope singles. yall can’t diss nas and jay like this they got a track record that people still need to catch up on…………….

  9. Mic Sorc Says:

Yeah, this makes sense, alot of rappers are putting out false images instead of real issues. Nas really dont need to rap if he dont want to. label obligation or not, he choses to put out a valuable message thru his music for us today and tomorrow. its not he same monotony that goes on with rappers. reporters are even asking jeezy about politics and the economy. there are bigger issues that we need to be informed about. alot of young cats hold rappers on such a high pedestal that it would be good to see dudes in power taking the high road and talkin about it.

  10. CURTISSSS Says:

Nas is BS hes been fooling niggas since he came in the game. He aint as righteous as people make him out to be. Only time he has a opinion on something or speaks out is when his album is dropping. He lets the industry dictate his movements(Owe me back, Nigger now called Untitled). Hes built different then the way niggas make him out to be. Son is good for controversy when his album is coming (Hip Hop is Dead, Nigger) then he MIA. He claim he taking over for Jessie then be on the front lines all the time. If he was really revolutionary hed go independent and say/did whatever he wanted. Like Pac said fake niggas do what they can real niggas do what they want.

  11. CURTISSSS Says:

But son do have a point

  12. Southern Queen Dee Says:

The kind of music he’s talking about IS entertaining, but he’s got a good ass point. Most people are going to listen to that music in the club, but we’re not going to by a WHOLE ALBUM to listen to the same isht on different beats. Most people want to hear something different from their favorite rapper.

  13. Slim Says:

#4 and #10 you guys dont’t know a good artist when you see one. Nas doesn’t like the lime light thats why he’s always MIA, he rather stay home with the fam rather club hop or show hop.
You talking about not making money so you talk about some other shit, Niggar..the big homie put his career and contract on the line for this album to drop, and the reason why he put out this gem, because in this present day in time a change is coming. Like it or not and its not looking good for black folks or people of color. The big homie always drop jewls but this time around it to alert black folks of whats going on now and what gonna happen. Check out this other dude who is spitting gems like Nas, his name Immortal Technique. He’s raw as hell with his, they both on that same path, to wake up our minds on whats really going on. Untitled is not for money, its the message he wants to get out and if you dont have the intelect to comprehend what he’s saying then Nas’s music is not for you, go listen to them other rappers who’s still talking about materialism. One more thing, how many rappers out there have a 50/50 joint venture with their label, platinum or barely gold still getting paid, Nas is one, who else?
    Peace to everyone.
