Truth, truth and more truth. I’m a southern nigga and I can’t stand not seein NY in the game. Down here we doin our thing and all but most of our niggaz today is wack. Point blank period. I wanna see some fresh sound in the game. The market is over saturated with Southern music. Most of the time I see my southerners talkin about Quit hatin the south. Aint no one hatin on the south like that. Jay Z, Nas, Diddy, Busta and all them up in NY aint sayin nuthin. But for real I wanna see cats like Saigon, Papoose and NYOIL get some shine too. It startes with ya’ll NY. Ya’ll can do it. And I’m lookin foward to the day when that happens.

Problem with East Coast is the production. Lyrically, the illest still come from the NYC aka MECCA. Most new rap fans you talk to explain that they like southern hip-hop the most cause of the beats…they’re not as gritty, but you FEEL them. East Coast producers need to adapt. Swizz did and he won.

NY hip hop aint fell off. It’s just another regions time to shine. The biggest names in the game is NY 50, Jay, Diddy, & Nas. It’s just all the new blood comes out of the south. Remember the south been hot for like 10 yrs now (NO 97-99, ATL 00-03, Hou. 04-05, ATL 05-08. But all them cat together can’t touch Jay, 50, Nas, and Diddy.

there is no one reason..cos#7 every region has its time.. but i feel like 50’s rise was NY’s decline… I like 50 but.. when he was on top.. all he did was divide…outsid eof his goons g-unit.. he didnt bring anybody wit him.. back in the hayday.. biggie would get on other cats records from east and west.. and bring up up and comers.. 50’s infautaion with his inner circle did not carry on tradition…Bless him for his success.. but he didnt carry on tradition..he beefed with and killed his own region!

But 50 did poison NY tho. He poisoned it with his stupid beefs and shit. And brought division to NY. I will agree with that. He’s one of the biggest names from New York and in hip hop. He did have a time where he carried New York on his back but he didn’t carry tradition. Lloyd Banks should be a superstar by now. On Fire was one of the biggest hits.

And the East Coast has some of the best beats. All southern beats sound the same. Well not all but a lot of it sounds simular. Don’t get me wrong rappers like Luda, UGK and Outkast have insane beats but a whole lot of southern artists today lack diversity. If they have it, they just don’t show it. Pete Rock’s album is a must have if you think New York beats suck.

Is it me or is Fab a hypocrite with this one. He’s not really reppin’ NY in a big way doing collaborations with southern rappers nowadays. His last album was more southern than NY so what is he talking about. He’s chasing money like the rest of the NY artist these days and not moving up or down in his position in the game. The quality of NY Hip-Hop is wack on the mainstream level but not underground. For those who listen to the radio or go to clubs 3 to 4 times a week are the one being brainwashed and contributing to the state of the music. As for NY, beef is one of many contributors along side selfishness of veterans to new artist, lack of subject matter, no collaborations, and most importantly lack of support. We will never live it again like the 90’s but as long as artist like Fabolous talk about it but dont do nothing about it, NY will be the new West Coast. Lots of great rappers, but we’ll never see them blow.

I feel what Fab saying but NY niggas got the biggest egos. This not really directed towards fab. But all this NY fell off shit is getting old. It fell off, deal with it. It reminds me of old Cowboy, Raiders, 49er’s fans who use to winning so much that when they down for a couple years then its a big deal. Everybody gotta eat, niggas are so greedy and want to blame everything.

Fab puts out good music and has gone gold the last few albums even with sales being down so nobody should knock him. But fuck all that NY fell off argument. The west fell off and we just starting to get some attention.

And niggas need to stop blaming 50 for shit. 50 made niggas look at #’s. Its true but its important. Not the most important thing but it is. He exposed niggas like Fat Joe who put out a hit and never does #’s. Now he facing the same rules after that Gunit album didnt move units. And stop talkin about 50 and his lame beef cause if the majority of people who follow hip hop didnt fall for the same lame beef then he would have to develope a new marketing plan.

he goes hard on features, he goes hard on mixtapes, and then jayz cosigns him. brings him to defjam. he has a banging anthem with neyo that tore the club up. then he has a so-so album???

Fab is underrated..no question about it.

I don’t think NY really fell off though. One main reason, is that radio stations are dictating what’s being played.

I find it ironic that Fab is on Hot 97 talking about NY hip hop falling off when Hot 97 is one of the reasons to blame for this!!! Back in the day, NY radio did nothing BUT play NY rappers and they were criticized for it, now they play everything but local stars! How is it your own local station is not supporting local artists? Snoop had the same complaint a year ago about west coast stations.

Underground/non-commercial rappers have shown that if they stick to the NY formula of boom bap and lyrics, they receive a cult following. Now imagine if those same artists receive the same push the commercial crap gets?

I remember back in the day Hot 97 was pushin Biggie, Nas, Wu-Tang, etc…on top of that..they would have underground shows with Stretch and Bobbito and another show with Pete Rock.

Add to that payola (paying dj’s to play records over and over), and senseless beef just to get attention, you get a failed formula of what people think NY hip hop is.

Hip hop is alive and well, it’s the commercial world (radio, mtv, bet) that fails to play the real.

I can’t speak for NY artist all i can speak for is Chitown artist. And in my opinion it seem like Chitown rappers are the only artist doing it big for hiphop. I mean Fab did make a point about NY hiphop fallin off and i agree. In my opinion most of your NY rappers now and days are not as hot as they were back then. It make it feel like there not on top of there game as far as like yea hiphop was born in NY. But as far as it being raised in NY and them NY rappers are doing what they suppose to do to keep hiphop in it place there not doing that. In my opinion it seem like Chitown artist are the only artist keepin hiphop alive creative and classy. It seem like Chitown artist are raising hiphop better then NY rappers which is not a big surprise being that Chitown has some of the most talented artist. And if you think about it down south rappers ain’t doing shit new creative and classy for hiphop there just everywhere. It also seem like eastcoast rappers are falling off like fab said and as far as westcoast rappers well there not many of them out there doin it big. And the very few rappers that are doing something in the west are not strong enough to dominate and take over. Now im not tryin to say that Chitown artist are the only rappers who are dominating and taking over or the only artist who are holdin hiphop down and supporting it. But in my opinion it seem like Chitown artist are the only artist keepin hiphop alive creative classy and unique. Kanye is a very creative artist Common is a very classy artist and lupe is a very unique artist in my opinion period and thats foreal.

Another thing that i respect about Chitown artist is that there not so many of them and there not to lil of them also. And for them to not be so many or so lil and to still be consistently powerful with the type of music that they create is very amazing. But or some reason it seem like Chitown artist don’t get enough prop or attention for what they do. But with there being a decent amount of Chitown artist who are known for having different succesful style is good enough for me. But I have 2 cosign w/ #26(County of Kings), b/c he hit the nail on the maphuckin’ head. Thatz why I’m usually a lil’ reluctant 2 buy his albums when they drop (I’ve bought ALL of his), b/c I know how da story usually ends. He’ll have a hot single and a few other bangers on the cd, but then will have some AIGHT/SKIPPABLE fillers wit “carbon copyish” beats.

I mean his lyrics neva dissapoint, but his production throughout all of his LP’s are inconsistent. And another thing that kinda hurts him is that he uses a “formula” 4 his albums. He alwayz got 3+ lady tracks, 3 gangsta tracks, 3 flossin’ etc. I understand that he’s tryna make sure dat errybody gets a taste of what they want, BUT what about what Fab wants??! Make a album wit a couple songs for the radio like usual and jus GO IN wit the rest, don’t be predictable.
