I was not impressed. I know what it is to be a black man in america. Some may say, well its for white folks, but all this did was cement already held stereotypes and ideas about blacks. There was a lack of perspective into the root issues behind the problems plaguing the community such as educational inequality, systemic racism, color bias, etc. This was a very surface-focused look at blacks, with very much middle ground.

Also there seemed to be a focus on successful lightskinned ppl, and unsuccessful darker skinned ppl. Maybe it was me being too critical, but I wasn’t blown away.

I think this was great but I think there should be a special on black teens in urban area such as the NYC, Chicago, and Los angles. Then focus on the education, morals, and other things that are important and affect the black teens life. Most of my friends have gone astray and we are raised in the same middle class community, its sad. Why does the black teen care about what sneakers or shoes their wearing instead of their grade? Whats with having sex with the most partners and laughing at people who choose their partners rationally and would like to get married, go to college, and have kids?

@ duckwild you are right wasn’t very mind blowing stuff people already know this. But they tried and it gave some insight.IF they got more in dept it would be a better documentary. They need to add and get deep into black on black racism too

This was good documentary, though they should show more of how other blacks have progressed. It is good in that they showed the ongoing problem but the enfaces should have been on how people have come up with a solution to the poverty and blck issue. Look up to people like Michael Eric Dyson and the Rand Family and the other entrepreneurs that have succeeded. Like Barack said we “All” can’t be successful rappers and ball players get an education. Everyone with something positive to say and do should be commended. Hip Hop is just entertainment we can’t live our lives portraying what we hear, we should be better and overcome it. Though the doc. so far is biased in its protrayel of Blacks still being below average not only economically but educationally we all know better. Look at Obama, thats proof enough that eduaction and the wanting to progress pays.Not crime, its fast money but it goes fast and you pay heavy consequences.This was a good film for discussion. Power to the people.

I’m a black female, and yes I understand that black men have it hard, but life is a game, play it. We live in a time when we have more choices. I’m sorry, time to start making excuses, Yes its harder for us, so what!!!!! Buckle up and get your grind on. When you understand life as a whole, you know how to live it. No more excuses, get yours! I just think a lot of brothers are becoming weak, sorry, I had to say it. And I believe women(of all races)help cripple them.

I like the fact that they shed light on the imbalance of the music business. Todays music does not portray an accurate depiction of hip hop or african americans. True everthing must exist, but their has to be balance. And balance does not exist in the mainstream rap industry, Thats why I thank God for mainstream artist like Nas.

Props to cnn!!! I am also a Black woman and view what it is like for many Black men in America. @ #1, yes you know what it’s like but this gives other races insight of what it’s like to be a Black man in America. Not implying this documentary will change the World but it will reach someone of another race the value the Black man can/will contribute to society or perhaps encourage other Black men to continue to push the envelope. Cant down Cnn…When is Fox & Bet gona jump on board???
