Nas’ Latest Album On Pace To be Number 1

Nas’ new Def Jam album may not have a title, but it will have a home at No. 1 on The Billboard 200. The veteran rapper is on course to notch his fifth topper on the big chart, as he leads Nielsen SoundScan’s Friday Building chart with 113,000 copies.

hello people nas sold this in 3 days not overall(tuesday-thursday) and the calculation is only from 9 retail stores not total- so that is pretty damn good considering nas was never a high first week seller!

my point is that gettin ur ablum to the #1 spot is jus the luck of the draw. One week 102 thous wil only get u to #4, a nex time 113 thous wil get u to #1 spot, then a nex week 200 wil only get u to 2nd (theres no consistancy wen it comes to chart position based on ablum sales so why celebrate it???)… Its good for nas record label and promotion overseas coz they can market nas album as a #1 album.. And bare people wil jus buy it based on that…

The difference between Nas. G-Unit, and Plies doing similar numbers in a week is the quality of music. I’m happy that quality music is back to running neck and neck with trash and hook lined gimmick gangsta rap, because for a long time it was losing.

It seems to me the people have spoken. We want the real Hip-Hop when people were being original, not following some record selling trend, but being real artists.

Whether it’s gansta, gansta, Mr/Mrs. Conscious, I’m flyer than the next, or whatever as long as its true to you. Rappers and Hip-Hoppers today are lacking that element, which is why everything is so light in the ass. Everyone’s afraid.

Thank you NAS this album is greatnss. There are no club bangers on it but thats fine NAS can make a song for the ladies whenever he feel like it. Critically aclaimed but Commercially it looks like nas album is goin to be a flop, and bein #1 in the billboard 200 with those kind of sales is just sugar coating it… i think Nas album sales wil define whether the people really care about Style or Substance… People run their mouths with “im waitin on Nas to drop and album” but wen it drops they dont support it. And yes t.o.s. Flopped. I think its a sad day for hiphop when a solo artist as talentd as nas can be dwarfed in comparison to lil wayne…

50 cent and G-unit “defined” themselves by sales.. they held a lion share of the market for a long time, thus, when they do not continue to do those time of numbers its consdiered, “falling off” I.E. janet jackson selling 2 million and being considered a FLOP…

NAS’ career was never defined by sales, rather influence and critical, tehcnique and skills… when the consensus believe that NAS no longer has lyrics, then we can consider him “falling off” 1oo thosuand plus is an irrelevant number to NAS… we are still talking aobut HIp Hop is dead two years later..still talking about illmatic 13 years later..

NAS is on another level.. record sales will never define his success…NELLY has sold tens of million of records and hsi name is never brought up regarding emcees,,

The only album that impressed me and that had personality so far is lil waynes The Carter 3 album and thats it. As far as any other artist who came out with any other album this year were decent but not impressive to me. I can care less about album sells im just waiting for an artist to impress me with an album that is worth buying. Im not to worried about an album that can educate me being that rapper now and days seem like they rapping about the same shit that iv heard. I just want hear an album that can touch on life and a different way and can just have its own style creativity and quality music that would be an album that i would buy. To all Hip Hop Fans: Stop supporting music that is based on whether a person is real or not. Or who’s the hardest on the streets. Support music based on the music. This goes for every kind of rap music. also, stop comparing G-unit to Nas, these are two completely different artists. G-unit has their goals in music and Nas has his goals in whats music. Stop comparing the two. That’s like comparing Madonna to Mariah Carey. Both of them are legends in their own right.
This is why hip hop is dead, in order to be considered successful or hot, you have to be the hardest nigga on the streets or the realest nigga on the streets or else you suck. With the exception of Kanye West & Lil’ Wayne of course, which by the way I still don’t quite understand the fascination with Wayne but I do respect his hustle & lyrics. and I live and grew up just outside of New Orleans, and we hear everything about Lil’ Wayne, trust me, he’s not the hard nigga he claims to be either. I promise you, We in New Orleans know this as a fact. But we still bump his music because we somewhat care about hiphop. Even though I personally don’t listen to as much southern rappers as other people down here. The point is, pay attention to the music. All artists have huge flaws, this includes your favorite rapper.
