Timbaland Set To Produce Jay-Z’s Next Album

He wants me to do the whole thing this time around,” Timbaland said Monday during a visit to the MTV News office. “I’mma make it a classic too. You better believe it. It’ll be a monster! I always say this: You get a first single from me, I’mma get you up to gold. And it’s hard to get you up to gold in this day [and age].”

Full Story: MTV

Not sure if Timbaland should be doing the entire album, different producers add variety to an album.

This is a tough call..cause timbo is a genius and I would never underestimate his abilities. No doubt he’s got a pile of gems just waiting for a moment like this.

Nobodies checkin for Jay like the big pimpin’ days anymore tho…there’s a bit of Jay fatigue and it may not work. And you may be right…many producers are often better than one.

the pharaoh wrote on July 16th, 2008 at 7:11 pm

he should get more than one producer…mix in some kanye and just blaze soul beats some moment of clarity type beats from eminem some dr dre then some beats from timbo…im sure the album will be hot though…

Dudes are second guessing Timbo’s production now? The beats department is covered, so if Jay comes correctly with the lyrics, the album will be dope.

11.
Corey wrote on July 16th, 2008 at 8:17 pm

Timbos beats are top-notch, but a whole album? Why? How about 2 or 3 from Tim, a couple from Just Blaze, Toomp, Kanye, and whoever else comes up with some heat.

As long as the beats have diversity, it doesn’t matter if they’re all by Timbaland.

Tim is top 5 but a whole joint wit him n jay?? would def. have like 3-4 club smashes but think the rest of it would suffer.. i would rather see jay and dj premiere.. take it back to “a million” ” friend or foe” “d’evils” premiere is #1 when it comes to makin rappers makin a hot song, from biggie kick in da door, unbelievable, 10 crack commanments to nas ny state of mind… premiere brings out the best in these dudes… realtalk!

lol @ Terror… sorry to tell you but Jay is pop! And tim has a wide range of beats (genre’s/styles) I wouldn’t be surprised if he pulls it off. He’s not really a monotonous type producer even though you can usually still id the beat as one of his.

crooklands finest wrote on July 16th, 2008 at 9:47 pm

timbo is good for the bounce but jigga man shines with them introspective tracks an that is where timbo lacks

we see tho still lookin forward to it

19.
CommonCents wrote on July 16th, 2008 at 9:49 pm

Use common logic…Jay-z, SHOULD have Timbo produce the whole record. It would make 2 classic legends collaborating to make a “CLASSIC ALBUM” As u would find as the post subject title…If Timbo can produce Justin Timberlake’s whole album and make that go Platinum…how in the heck could anyone question if Timberland couldn’t make Jay’z album go Platinum?

Why are All these NON-Artists giving their critique of what the Artists should do? thats like tellin Van Gogh “I think you should use orange instead of Blue” or “I think you should make that shape more round” or “I think you should use water colors instead of oil paint”…damn just let the artist make their Art and then judge whether you like it or not..and plus Jay already did the albums where he had various producers already let the nigga try somethin different 1 album with 1 producer. I mean yall claim to always want somethin different but you expect someone to make somethin different with the same shit..I already heard The Blueprint(Kanye, Just blaze and Timbo)..I dont need the same album..I just want something as good but different

24.
JJ wrote on July 17th, 2008 at 12:43 am

alright if Jay wants to make an album fulla club bangers…bad if he wants to make another modern classic like “American Gangster”.

WHITE BOY wrote on July 17th, 2008 at 1:58 am

Lol @ the 2 blogs who are arguing over jay-z 50 and kanye being pop artist as if thats a bad thing. I thought pop meant popular and in my opinion pop is selling way more and doing way better then hiphop. But anyway big up to jay-z and timbo whether ya’ll are doing pop or not ya’ll are still getting yo money.

26.
B! wrote on July 17th, 2008 at 2:04 am

27.

P.s. I never said bein pop was bad, but not many are pop in a ginuine manner. most are pop cause they intentionally make there music non offensive to the masses, unlike someone like Pac who really jus happened to become as widely popular guy while maintaining what he was always about from my P.O.V.!

tim can hop on the beats, but he has danja and he can collab with kanye like on stronger, he’s just gonna produce it all. hov might get some dre and swizzy beats too.

I’ve always felt that having one producer work on an album makes the album feel focused, not scattered like most compilation-sounding albums with countless producers.

likeabite wrote on July 17th, 2008 at 1:03 pm

Timbo’s wack? Danja’s surpassed Timbo? All this reckless nonsense when we all know TIMBO’S THE BEST. PERIOD. And Jay can do a whole album with just him, it’d b a classic and it’s not like he hasnt done songs with all the other top notch producers. This can be his foray into a whole other department and to test himself. Let it rock

TIMBALAND AD LIBS over the whole of jay-z next album, PLEASE NO DONT DO IT JAY-Z!!lol… Im not lookin forward to a nelly futado or madonna collabo with jigga…. I want to hear some hi-tek produced tracks for jay-z… And any music with commercial success is POPular music which includes jay-z…. Anyway at least it aint an entire album produced by PHARELL lol

I would never underestimate timbo…he’s surpass the title of a “hip hop producer” he’s a producer that could bring many elements onto an album and hit niggas in the head.

42.
Odin wrote on July 17th, 2008 at 3:58 pm

“Not sure if Timbaland should be doing the entire album, different producers add variety to an album.”

Coming from the same people who said Lil Waynes eclectic beat selection made the album incoherent.

Make up your minds people!!

timbo is sick but if it aint broke dont fix it. there is no reason for jay-z to change up his formula he needs to stick to what he’s been doin which is makin a diverse album with different sounds from different producers like:kanye west, just blaze, pharell, 9th wonder, swizz beats and of course timbo

KB wrote on July 17th, 2008 at 5:23 pm

I got mixed thoughts about this. I mean Jay is in the same position as Snoop right now. I mean his legacy is at that point when he can take a risk like this. He can make an album like Graduation and songs like Superstar and Stronger. Songs with a futuristic sound! It cant hurt him now! Although a Blueprint 3 would be good with Jus Blaze & Kanye would be Good Money right now, he kinda gave us a little bit of that on American Gangster! So with that said, I wouldnt mind if Jay went somewhere else with his sound!

45.
VA's Finest wrote on July 17th, 2008 at 5:55 pm

Jay Z will always go platinum. This nigga has already established himself as one of the best selling artists of all time. He don’t need to worry about keepin up with the youngins like Weezy and Kanye. Even if they came out the same day. Weezy and Kanye tryin to reach to the level where Jay is at. Jay already proved himself. His time for that is pretty much over. Now he gonna take his carrer to that iconic status for real. The next 5 or so years are gonna be interesting for Hov.

46.
jay wrote on July 17th, 2008 at 8:11 pm

cosign 44. sum Kanye and Just Blaze in there would be nice wit a dr.dre track and then timbo the rest. But if wanna go a way diff route with it, he at the stage where he defeneitly nice enough to do dat.

Timbo the great!!! Look back at what’s he’s done for Jigga in the past!

48.
Southern Queen Dee wrote on July 17th, 2008 at 11:16 pm

Sorry to burst your bubble Timbo, but you aren’t doing the whole album! Swizzy just said a few weeks ago he and Jay were working on some shit for the new album, so unless Hov changed his mind about the direction of the album–which last he said at Glasto during an interview, he hadn’t–you’re wrong again! He might to the majority, but I doubt he’ll do the whole thing. Until I see otherwise, that’s my POV.

Real Talk - Jay still spittin’ fire and this album is going to be dope. He’s better than any rapper out (Nas is his equal, but on the right) and will still drop science, lifestyle, poetry and party shit on ya’ll clowns. Timbaland is in charge of the album, but that doesn’t mean other producers won’t be on it. Trust and believe Pharrell will have a joint on there - that’s Jay’s homeboy too. Swizz announced he’s on there too. Timbaland was in charge of Justin’s album, but he wasn’t the only producer on there. All that means is that he’s controlling the direction of the production of the album and overseeing what producers will be on it. This album will be fire. Can’t wait for some real talk and real hip hop.
