Latest On Jay-Z’s Next Album

“Well, after the tour, I’m going back home and we’ll look at it and see if I can start a project this year,” he said. “I would love to do it, to be honest with you. It would be a great thing to do when I come home from tour, but it’s vibe. I can’t say, ‘On this date this is going to happen.’ If I get home and the vibe is right, it’ll happen. If not, then top of next year.”

“I can’t give you the concepts or themes, but I’ve got a very clear direction of where I want to go with this one, and we’ll see how it works.”

Full Story: MTV

Swizz Beatz already mentioned that he was making some new Jigga tracks, so don’t be surprised to hear something late 08/early 09. I wonder how he will follow up a classic like, “American Gangster.”

It’s hard to walk away from something that you are passionate about. This guy has quite a lengthy catalog and his last record “American Gangster” was a hell of a album. I will be anticipating his upcoming release.

Concept albums come up well with Jay. The realtalkNY guy is a big Jay fan, I can tell.

1st I would like to say that new Nas record is incredible. I absolutely will purchase.

My comment is for poster 3, why should he retire? Young rappers should make better music especially in the NY tri state area. In the south, you don’t see Webbie & Boosie & Plies dissing UGK and OUTKAST. You don’t see Rick Ross dissing Ludacris.

If the music was quality enough, they shouldn’t be worried about rappers before them still releasing music.

I dont know I thought that Party Life was one of the wackest Jay tracks ive heard in a long time.Other than that it was straight

All I want is for Jay not to rush into trying to make an album. All he needs is to take his time with it, relax for a while and eventually he will make another classic album. He’s a very creative individual and I believe he will deliver like he always does. @ post 3, I don’t feel he should retire and he def hasn’t ruin his legacy at least in my eyes. I think hes been consistent while at the same time improving his status in the industry. The fact that’s he mentioned in the top 5 dead or alive (no specific order) and not ruining that in any regard shows he still got some years left.

@5 co-sign, that new Nas is an Instant Classic. YES I DOWNLOADED IT and I aint scared to say it because I will be the first to buy it on July 15th

@3 there’s no such thing as being old in rap years. Basketball is different because it wears and tears on you PHYSICALLY. Jay-Z put out arguably a classic last year at age 37. Jay still has skills, the problem is that rap fans are so fickle. They dont wanna stick with you for a long time. I bet you in 5-10 years the SAME people calling Lil Wayne the greatest rapper will be tellin him to retire and to make way for some new nigga. Look at Ice Cube. He is droppin an album this year at age THIRTY-NINE! And the leaks have been fire so dont give me that age bullshit.

HipHop/Rap Has no age requirement—#3
If you Jay-Z retires so young guys like Soulja Boy can rap than Imma start listening to Rock
Music is Music if its hot its hot A.G. was a hot album better than Carter 3 which came from a young guy I was truly dissapointed
Jay-Z is a trendsetter
He always is being creative and he is one of the only few who is truly passionate about the music
Not all but most of the young guys in the rap game just follow trends and are not passionate about the music at all
If he waits 2 long he will sound rusty like Kingdome Come
Just look at Eminem he will have a hard time coming back

I really don’t understand why there are people who thinks Jay should retire. Are u kidding me??? For those who think that, you must have been hiding under a fucking rock because even Stevie Wonder can see how bad hip hop has fallen. Honestly if it werent for dudes like Jay, people would be listening to fuckin Bhangra (shout out to Bollywood..lol) music right now. He makes the shit worth listening to. AG was hands down a classic…probably the best album of 2007 with Graduation a close 2nd!

It seems that we are never gonna find common ground on this issue…so here’s what I suggest…let’s get a big thick ass rope (pause)…and divide the country in half…Souljah Boy, Ying Yang Twins, and all of those other corny muthafuckas, they can have their fans on one side….and I’ll be on the other side with Jay’s. Kanye’s, Commons, Andre 3k’s, and possibly Lil Wayne (if he would stop drinking that shit all the dam time). That way everyone is happy!

Kingdom Come was better then American Gangster in my opinion and that wasn’t even a classic. American Gangster is a hot album but it not a classic to me. Kingdom Come was more creative to me but not a classic. And it seem like people are so quick to call a great album by a great artist a classic even tho that not alway the case. Sometime i wonder if people still know what classic mean since they use it toward every good album as if it true. But i ain’t trippin cuz it not like ya’ll are speakin about a wack out artist. I mean jay-z is far from being wack and i respect everything he does and im def copin his next album.

at #3 ur fucking INSANE….AG was a CLASSSIC

u kno why hov still raps, cuz niggas like souljaboy, jibbs, hurricane chris, etc FUCKING SUXX. if hov retires, rap music will pretty much be on life support. bun b is like 40 and still better than pretty much all these young niggas.

im 21 and i can say i literally grew up on jay-z, he is the ambassador of rap music. lil’ wayne JUST GOT HOT, hov has been hot since like ‘97, whenever VOL 3 dropped. think bout how consistant this man has been since then. think bout how many rappers/musical acts in any genre have come and gone in that time period, yet HOV is STILL HERE. especially in rap, where ppl come and go every 5 secs.

u dont hear young rock kids saying fuck U2, aerosmith, kiss, black sabbath, beatles, etc. they embrace those old bands BECAUSE THEY RESPECT THEM and realize that if it wasnt 4 those bands they wouldnt have gym class heroes, fall out boy, plain white tees, coldplay, etc.

lil wayne jus got hot, lets see him stay consistant 4 the next 10 plus years like HOV has done. i mean jay-z is in a lot of ways bigger than rap music, the way kanye has become bigger than pop/rap music. i think wayne can be good, but he could also be a fad, only time will tell.

AG was awesome it was the best hip hop album last year by far Hov switched his style up on that the concept was dope the way he had pray and american dreaming at the start then Roc Boys, Sweet, Party Life and Success as the high point then he had Fallin at the end it was smartely put together like a movie.

Hov classics;

Reasonable Doubt
Black Album
Blueprint
American Gangster

His other albums are not that bad either but those are his real master pieces.

34.
ifokust wrote on July 4th, 2008 at 9:55 am

AG was not a classic album. With a classic, 5 years down the road you remember the track list, all the lyrics word for word….you read the liner notes 100’s of times.
AG is not even in my current rotation (same for most people whether they admit it or not) at it only came out last year!
Rolling Stone has it as the 3rd best album of that year.

sorry, no classic for hov on that project. I thought Hard Knock Life is closer to classic then AG.

Considering the bullshit music that e have out right now… AMERICAN GANGSTAR IS A CLASSIC ALBUM. Yes I said it. It’s better than The Carter 3… thats for damn sure. Is it Jays best album… No… but It’s one of the best albums he has made. Ya’ll need to stop hatin. Jay Z is 38 years old… So the fuck what! He’s still doin his thing. Unlike most of the rappers that we have today, Jay Z actually has passion and a love for the music. And he makin for lost time. He didn’t record an album for like 3 years between his “retirement” and Kingdom Come. But this aint about the money, it aint about he critics. Jay Z has proven that he can make a classic album… which is somethin that most rappers today can’t do… And we need him in the game. I don’t want Jigga to rush into his next album either… He should take a lil time off from the tour and everything… and take his time with this album. He did AG in like 2 weeks or sumthin like that people! It had flaws, but what album don’t? But when he ready he will make this next album. If you don’t like the music then don’t buy it or listen to it. But if you realize that in 2008 that age really don’t mean nuthin when it comes to hip hop then support the man and buy his next album. Stop expecting classics from Jay all the time and just appreciate good solid hip hop music. And I’m only 19 by the way. And I think Jay can rap as long as he wants.

We All Went Through This Same Argument When lil Wayne Dropped “Tha Carter 3″ And It’s The Same For Him. So In Your Eyes If An Album Is a Classic Then it’s a Classic And If Not Then It’s Not.

Now that I got that out of the way…I LOVE me some Hov, but AG WAS NOT a classic! I personally think Hov’s only got 2 maybe 3 classics (RD and BP of course and the maybe being The Black Album), but I think he’s got another one in him if he takes his time like another poster said.

58.
Datz Whassup wrote on July 7th, 2008 at 3:16 pm

AG was a classic like damn near every other one he dropped. Any one shouting retirement is precisely what’s wrong with fake hip hop supporters. Do you hear white people telling any of these groups to retire that are older than Jay:

Beasite Boys - (HIP HOP)
Rolling Stones
Ozzy Osborne - (Who’s older than leather)
Bruce Springsteen
Madonna
Kid Rock
U2
Oasis - (Noel and Joel Gallagher who Jay just ripped in Glastonbury)

I could post 100 more but you get it. They’re not all hip hop, but they still rock out and have to go hard on their records and performances because they’re not singers like that.

Appreciate good music for what it is. Rap’s actually boring with Jay - he needs to keep dropping music until his voice starts to crack from old age and even then he could be your favorite rappers ghost writer - side bar: he already his.
