hip hop could never uplift black america especially when the rappers selling the most records (lil wayne 1.01 mil) 1st week...has a track called Misunderstood in which he proceeds to say "fuck you" to Al Sharpton.

#15 hip hop does influence people but it doesnt control them. Plenty of white boys get fashon tips from their rock & roll or Emo music. When Marilyn Manson was big, it was plenty of people that went gothic. Plenty of white girls get fashon tips from the hills and other MTV type shit so your wrong about race being controlled by hip hop.

The number one consumer of hip hop music is white people. They also buy a lot of the clothing associated with the culture/music. As hard as it is to be black, its very ironic how many people realize its cool to "dress black", and do shit that black people do on a regular basis. The races that bite black styles think its cool but dont have to deal with the other side of the coin when your stopped by cops for wearing that fitted or bitches hold their purse when you walk by. White people look at their kids like they are goign through a faze when they listen to hip hop and start dressing "like black people". Fact is niggas need to stop blaming hip hop for everything.

man i don't listen to anything but hip hop but i know to seperate it from real life...most the people i know who listen to hip hop is stupid as fuck....why dont they cooperate with police in finding criminals because a rapper told them to. yall wear wat u wear cus a rapper wears it. you talk the way you do because a rapper talks that way. Hip hop is the only music that actually takes an entire race of people and controls there thoughts and actions and most the songs by people who seel are about murder so maybe yall can stop thinkin that people are hating on hip hop and just realize you need to step back from hip hop and look at yourself

Black people are in a bad position in the eyes of society right now and have been for sometime. Thats no secret. But because of that, anything that we have... we look to for help. Hip hop is the biggest example, then sports in my opinion. I dont know any of race or group of people in general that look to a form of music to help uplift them.

It funny how alot of ya'll are getting mad at the article but i don't think it mddness but confusion. For me im in the middle of agreeing and disagreeing with the article. I mean there a differencce between giving your opinion toward a topic to prove your point. then to give your opinion toward a topic to defend yourself. And if this article is proving a point then i have know problem with it. But if not then yes there is a problem. As far as the blogs ya'll seem a lil defensive by saying that the article is corny. I mean i don't think that rappers these day are helping out and supporting hiphop the way they suppose to. And i also don't think that rappers are getting any smarter but richer and dumber. It obvious that the hoods ain't getting any better but more ignorant and violent for know reason. And hiphop itself ain't getting anymore inspirational but is lacking musically. I think it the fans and rappers who has to figure out a way and find out how to resolve the problem in hiphop. I personally think that there should be a sudden change in hiphop. And if not then topic like this is what gonna be shown and i know it hurt most of ya'll to read topic like this.

Black music has throughout histrory been more than just music from Blues Gospel jazz and soulmusic. A way too feel good and proud of yourself lyrics about uplifting and trying to figure out solutions to a better situation for black folks as a whole..etc. Both James Brown and Sam Cooke inspired black folks and are big part of the whole black revolution from back in the day when the black man and woman was seen as second-class citizien. Hiphop music is also more than just entertainment. It's a lifestyle and many especially black folks identify very strongly with hiphop. It has almost become a bible to a large amount of black folks of how to be a "black man" in America. The sad part is that there's too much negativity and glorify the thug life going to jail and so on if you listen to most of the rappers out there. A lot of people growing this way they adapt this gangsta and loser mentality that to them is a sign of being cool and how to be a "real nigga". But the truth is they have no future and will not accomplish anything meaningful as times goes by. There are so many exapmes of when "keep in it real goes wrong". I see it where I live EVERYDAY.

Somethin to reflect on while I'm out...

Historically our (colored) music has had some sort of meaning (Spirituals, etc) I'm black and I'm proud, A change gon come, The message, etc are fairly recent versions of music with a purpose and the purpose was to make us feel good about being us! When todays music basically makes fun of us (as a total we are not rich, can't afford to make its rain or burn money, etc) So in general this could be his point but in most folks lack of emotional intelligence they are upset once they hear anything about hip hop and recklessly defend the super idiotic parts of hip hop!
