Album Review: Lil Wayne- Tha Carter III

Lil Wayne
Tha Carter III
Cash Money/Universal
3.5/5
By: Samir Siddiqui
He’s been self-proclaimed and dubbed by others as the ‘best rapper alive,’ has enjoyed over a year of being hip-hop’s go-to guest feature, and has been the most hyped-up hip-hop artist in recent memory, all without having a classic album to solidify his A-list status. Two-and-a-half years after the release of his last LP, the time has come for Lil Wayne to translate his success into a great full-fledged album, and his attempt comes in the form of Tha Carter III. But with some doubting Wayne’s ability to create excellent material on his own, the third instalment of Tha Carter series fails to land to a knock-out blow to Weezy naysayers.
The album kicks off on a high as Wayne brings emotion and energy to the fiery “3 Peat,” a simile-heavy declaration of superiority, which is complimented by a spacey backdrop and a dramatic strings arrangement. Wayne calls upon the other “Mr. Carter” for Weezy/Jay-Z collaboration number two, and the two emcees let loose over a light-hearted piano-and-horns production; while Wayne throws shots back at the haters, Jay-Z provides the calm confidence of a seasoned vet, “I’m right here, in my chair, with my crown, and my dear, Queen B, as I share, my time, with my heir// Young Carter, go farther, go further, go harder, is that not why we came? And if not, then why bother?” Wayne later shows off some innovative thinking on the other-worldly “Phone Home,” where he paints himself as a martian, and on the clever “Dr. Carter,” where he carefully revives a sluggish emcee from rap oblivion. On another creative highlight, “Shoot Me Down”, Kanye West’s simplistic, guitar-laden production creates a before-the-war-type tension for Wayne to drop some of the album’s most engaging raps over.
However, while Tha Carter III boasts a few left-of-center song ideas, far too often does Wayne veer into the generic and uninspired. “Got Money” not only features lame song-writing and a grating T-Pain hook, but the front-and-center synths sound almost identical to those on Lil Jon’s “Snap Yo Fingers.” On the following track, “A Milli”,” the dreadfully repetitive beat drowns out Wayne’s raps for the most part, and with gems like “we pop ‘em like Orville Redenbacher,” producer Bangledesh was probably on the right track (pun intended). Even the super-catchy lead single “Lollipop” stands tall compared to the laughably-bad “La La,” a track marred by an awkward beat and corny one-liners- like Wayne says, it’s “wittier than comedy.”
The old tricks don’t always fall short, though. Wayne enlists Babyface to add a smooth throwback feel to the straight-forward love-song “Comfortable,” and when rapping alongside fellow mixtape staples Fabolous and Juelz Santana on the well-executed, Alchemist-produced “Nothin’ On Me,” Wayne seems at home. Previous collaborator Robin Thicke (”Shooter”) brings out Wayne’s most vicious lyrics for the second straight album, as Wayne lays waste to the minimal beat on “Tie My Hands,” with lines like, “Yes, I know the process is so much stress, but it’s the progress that feels the best// Cause I came from the projects straight to success, and you’re next, so try, they can’t steal your pride, it’s inside// Then find it, and keep on grinding, ’cause on every dark cloud, there’s a silver lining.”
For a guy who is supposed to be the “best rapper alive,” such showcases of lyrical excellence are few and far between, and the ambitious nature of Tha Carter II is replaced with a more complacent Weezy on volume three. While the artistic reception to Tha Carter III likely won’t have too much of an effect on his commercial status, the LP stands to be a career-defining album for Lil Wayne. So while Tha Carter III delivers in spades, it is surely not the project that will have hip-hop faithful adding Weezy to the list of “Tupac, Biggie, and Jay-Z.”

i agree….this isint anywhere near classic…dont get me wrong…its a solid album…but any1 who calls this classic…has waynes dick in their throat…cuz this is a average album for him….carter 2 was so much better…..NOW WE WLL GOTTA WAIT TILL JULY 1ST N 8TH…FOR GUNIT N GAME…hopefully..they deliver
June 2nd, 2008 at 2:13 pm
Dubbed by others?
Im guessing by others you mean females and niggas 16 and under.
June 2nd, 2008 at 2:13 pm
Nice perspective. I agree with it, but still buy it. It’s good.
June 2nd, 2008 at 2:13 pm
Wayne did his thing on this album. He ain’t the best rapper alive but he definitely one of the BEST!
June 2nd, 2008 at 2:14 pm
would give it a 4.
June 2nd, 2008 at 2:26 pm
Up that to a 4/5
good review though
June 2nd, 2008 at 2:39 pm
i agree completely with this review…totally unbiased although i actually kinda like La La and phone home is straight thrash imo…otherwise great review
June 2nd, 2008 at 2:40 pm
I GAVE IT A 4/10 AND I HEARD IT AGAIN AND NOW I GIVE IT A 7/10 THE ONLY BAD THING ABOUT DA ALBUM IS DA LYRICS HE FELL OFF LYRIC WISE BUT DA BEATS N HOOKS ARE HOT……COSIGN #1 WAYNE LET US DOWN NOW LETS WAIT FOR JULY 1ST N SEE HOW G-UNIT DELIVERSN DEN SEE HOW GAME DELIVERS I GOT MONEY ON T.O.S THO I GOTTA FEELIN IS GONNA BE HOT LIKE RETURN OF THE BODY SNATCHERS AND SABRINA’S BABY BOY N ELEPHANT IN THE SAND
June 2nd, 2008 at 2:48 pm
I heard da lp already n i feel sum songs shodnt had made it but Wayne still have solid songs on it. He dont have many singles like lollipop on there bt he still have sum hot songs. Bt Sum songs that were release on mixtapes shod of been on the lp, like Im Me, Gossip, etc. Bt i guess due 2 da release of da songs they neva make da lp… Bt i still feel he have classic on his hands. http://www.myspace/jnezzie.com
June 2nd, 2008 at 2:58 pm
he should of keep the concept 4 his album were he said it was gonna b lik the carter 1….i would give a 3 only cuz a few of the tracks are alright kinda lik a mixtape & after a awhile it gets boring….when he drop gossip i thought c3 was gonna b the shit turn out it is shit wayne might bounce back
June 2nd, 2008 at 3:01 pm
I thought this review would get killed. Wayne mostly has stans and haters so no matter what you say its gonna piss someone off. Good read though, I agree with a few others it would have given it a 4/5 cause its only 2 songs I dont really listen to and thats both the Danner Banner produced songs.
June 2nd, 2008 at 3:08 pm
3.5? naw its more like a 4 for me. I would say 4.5 but “Nothin on me” and “La La” bring it down. To think if it wasn’t leaked last year we’d have scarface, Feel like Dying and La La La on this already amazing album minues the aformentioned tracks is disturbing.
Fuck them niggas that leaked C3 last year lol but C3 is still my favorite wayne album with alotta classic songs and album of the year despite a few shortcomings. It has classic songs but not a classic album
4/5.
June 2nd, 2008 at 3:10 pm
this is a classic yall niggas is lame. dont think its as hot as the carter 1 tho. still straight fire! dipset forever
June 2nd, 2008 at 3:10 pm
make that a 4/5
only 2 tracks take the album away from classic status.
June 2nd, 2008 at 3:13 pm
4.5
June 2nd, 2008 at 3:15 pm
fuck it…4.5 lol. I like La La
June 2nd, 2008 at 3:18 pm
I hate wayne, but the introspective shit on shoot me down just got me..it just got me. 4.5
SMH @ myself
June 2nd, 2008 at 3:25 pm
hey, im 15 and i dont dub him nothing, just most hyped lol
i like some of his songs, though he was never my favorite, but i still listen to some stuff cuz that’s what a true hip hop head does lol
I know stuff from Afrika Bambaata to the newest artist
if i had to rate i would give him a 3/5
June 2nd, 2008 at 3:26 pm
It’s a classic album (2008) it’s notting near pac, biggie or jay shit, but still is a classic cause this dude is in his own world, u need to get in there to understand his lyrics and his brain. my fav. joint must be “shoot me down” thats some deep shit, some shit to smoke a joint 2.
5 fav tracks:
-Shoot me down
-Mr. Carter
-Notin on me’
-A milli
-3 Peat (really nice intro)
all songs are great, but where is birdman? bun b?
June 2nd, 2008 at 3:29 pm
I’d give it a 4.
June 2nd, 2008 at 3:31 pm
Another review. http://www.hhnlive.com/reviews/more/201
this one from an actual review site
4.5/5 BITCH!
June 2nd, 2008 at 3:34 pm
You know what? Im flip flopping, but in this new generation and current time, Carter 3 is a mothafuckin classic. No he’s not up to Jay but he has made a name for himself with this album. Its a defining moment for him.
*STAMP OF APPROVAL FOR CLASSIC*
June 2nd, 2008 at 3:38 pm
Im not a big Weezy fan but this a solid album tho, far from classic and diffently not better then C2, Dedication 2, D3 etc.. But songs like “Shoot Me Down”(Best song) … “Tie My Hands” and “Dr.Carter” shows his growth as a MC in the game..He’s matured alot since wobbley wobbley wo wobbley drop it like its hot days..Lol
June 2nd, 2008 at 3:44 pm
Yall know he’s talking to himself on Shoot me down? beautiful..
Ive been playing the album nonstop since it leaked. Its classic
June 2nd, 2008 at 3:45 pm
OUCH! Not surprised - Wayne’s overrated and clearly overhyped and Dug His Own Whole with his bragging and self-proclaimed rapper bullshit.
June 2nd, 2008 at 3:47 pm
Put a fork in this nigger already because he’s done - lmao!
June 2nd, 2008 at 3:47 pm
C3>>>>>>C2>>>>>>>>C1.
June 2nd, 2008 at 3:48 pm
C3>>>>>>C2>>>>>>>>C1. Album of the year
June 2nd, 2008 at 3:49 pm
I TOTALLY agree!!!!! C3 was weak!!!!
3.5/5
June 2nd, 2008 at 3:51 pm
Dude never came with nothing lyrical consistently from mixtapes to albums so what you expect? Weezy needs to change is name to “self-proclaimed best bullshitter alive”!
June 2nd, 2008 at 3:57 pm
youngins n idiots callin it a classics. lyrics make sumthin a classic not swag. theres no such things as its classic but not on a level of pac big n jay. itts either a classic or not. the same way get rich or die trying aint. 2 call sumthin a classic it has 2 be compared 2 or matched against one.
June 2nd, 2008 at 4:00 pm
“superman - hip hop fan” HOW MANY TIMES YOU GON POST ON THIS LMAOOOO YOU GOTTA BE THE BIGGEST WAYNE STAN THERE IS
June 2nd, 2008 at 4:01 pm

June 2nd, 2008 at 4:03 pm
Rockwilder, Im still posting. The Internet has no fuckin rules. Do somethin lol
June 2nd, 2008 at 4:04 pm
I agree its a classic, fuck an old head/ hater
Supposed to be starting a family you middle age niggas haha
June 2nd, 2008 at 4:15 pm
My whole thing is this way in the mothafuckin pussy hole are people judging and dissing lil wayne album when they haven’t even heard or cope the mothafuckin album. I mean the shit hasn’t even drop in people are talking shit as if what there saying is true or importent that that shit pisses me off that just gossip talk shit it doesn’t even mean shit. I mean im not even a fan of lil wayne and im giving him prop dude has the one of the best album this year. And to be honest with you it doesnt matter how many song people like on the album the number of song that you like or dislike on the album doesn’t mattercuz it just your opinion. I think people are seriously confused in there head because i bet you if lil wayne bring out that one hot joint or even if it the album that blow up ya’ll are gonna start liking him and apreciating him just like ya’ll did with the’lollipop’ joint and that for real. I think that almost every song that lil wayne is spittin on he alway representing hiphop and that something that you don’t see most rapper doing now and day. And for lil wayne album i think this is his best and not a failer and for his status he created a classic album. I mean i seriouly don’t think he can bring out another album better then this that they will call a classic if this is not a classic. And that dew to the promotion and high rating that this album is getting it gonna be his biggest and he deserve it. I think people who are judging lil wayne album are just giving there opinion on it to me it doesn’t mean that what there saying is true or important it just there opinion. And it funny because that was the same shit that they were saying about jay-z albums. When The Kingdom Come and the American Gangster drop people give there opinion saying that his album was gonna flop and the materials were gonna suck. But what happen it sold very well and the material were good. I think for lil wayne people are just hatin on him they don’t know what there saying they just want to see him fall they don’t care about the good track on the album they just talkin negitive shit. And i don’t think that every song on the album should be hot cuz that the problem with people now they want to heard some shit hot shit but they never appreicate it. But all im saying is as long as lil wayne like the album and as long as there song that mean something and as long as it sells then that all that matter. I mean he doesn’t have to be on the list of best rapper alive but he’s shown to people how talented he is an artist and that what i respect of him. I bet you if ya’ll gave this album to an artist like jay-z or kanye lupe or common this will be a classic for them and that the truth period.
June 2nd, 2008 at 4:28 pm
what did he mean about Bangladesh being on the right track? Is he dissing the country Bangladesh as well as the producer? Is he implying that like the country Bangladesh the producer Bangladesh is poor and deprived? if so fuck Samir Siddqui! until my death i’m Bangladesh! motherfuck samir siddiqui
June 2nd, 2008 at 4:35 pm
dubbed by others as the ‘best rapper alive ? Who dubbed him this ?
June 2nd, 2008 at 4:41 pm
Lil wayne will neva make a classic ! ..I have to agree with Jay Z..
He dont even have classic singles!
June 2nd, 2008 at 4:42 pm
Carter 3= TRASH cuz the way it was hyped u woulda thought it was like the next LIFE AFTER DEATH OR THE CHRONIC OR MAKEVELI….A lot of shit he was sayin didnt make sense… its probly bcuz he dont have 2 nuffin 2 talk about…. im not takin nuffin from him i respect his hustle but he’s not lyrically good in my opinion he jus got a swag… he should jus hire gilly back 2 write some of his shit cuz when he was there weezy shit was better look at Carter 1 and 2 and sum mixtapes
June 2nd, 2008 at 4:43 pm
It funny how people talk like they know what a classic album is or suppose to sound like oppose to an album that is not a classic like they know the difference or somthing. Like for example a artist like jay-z can call lil wayne album a classic and that will be a wrap for what people think toward lil wyne album being that jay-z made classic so he know what it really mean. And if lil wayne album is not a classic at least give him prop for tryin. I mean this album to most fan is already known to be a classic album to them. And i think if lil wayne bring out the right song this album will definetly be a classic. Because when it come to lyrical skill lil wayne is way beyond anything that most rappers wish they could dream of rapping about as of now even 50 gave him prop. I you got to admitt his lyric are very creative and at this point he is what hiphop need right now being that his lyric are very entertaining and catchy.
June 2nd, 2008 at 4:45 pm
Superman gotta be 1 lame nigga, nigga wearin choke chains !
June 2nd, 2008 at 4:47 pm
JAYZ HAS A CLASSIC ALBUM..
Name 1 classic Wayne cd???????

June 2nd, 2008 at 4:52 pm
@36..Commander Cool aka Me
He said the producer Bangladesh’s beat was drowning out waynes vocals..and he’s saying that the “pop’em like Orville Redenbaucher” is a bad line. So he’s saying that the Producer bangladesh was on the right track with drowning out Wayne’s vocals
As for me I haven’t heard the album yet.
June 2nd, 2008 at 4:52 pm

Not just lyrically wise, but beat wise

June 2nd, 2008 at 4:53 pm
very well-written and fair review of the album. I personally had it at a 4, but I can’t disagree with what the reviewer has said whatsoever. To me, this was supposed to be Weezy’s “Blueprint”, but it fell short of that…maybe I put the expectations too high.
June 2nd, 2008 at 4:57 pm
@ 41 “MIZZ”.. wtf? lol he doesn’t even have a chain on. Check ya eyes bitch
June 2nd, 2008 at 4:57 pm

June 2nd, 2008 at 5:10 pm
not tryna hate the reviewer but come on
that whole “(pun intended)” thing with Bangledesh that you wrote..
come on, that just fucks the review up.
stop trying to impress the reader.
just write in a way so we can figure out if we’re impressed by the artist.
June 2nd, 2008 at 5:15 pm
@ 44 you cant tell me that this isnt the best album that has come out in like two years ? You really think that ? I can think of at least 4 or 5 albums in the last 2 years better than this garbage

You riding his dick real hard yo !!
Clearly your lame also !

June 2nd, 2008 at 5:33 pm
The album is a 2 at best. You groupies are ridiculous. Classic? You can honestly put this album in the same category as Ready 2 Die? Illmatic? Me Against The World?
Classic my Ass.. this shit was horrible..
June 2nd, 2008 at 5:36 pm
Yo this was a very good album b. Calling it a classic is reaching cuz i feel like something has to be at least 10 years old to be labeled “classic” But like I said before, this is waynes “supreme clientele” or “purple haze” Its not a cookie cutter rap sound and dude took chances most of which paid off. If you dont fukk with dudes flow or voice or whatever thats cool but the production was insane, the guest spots were perfect, and it didnt run too long/short. Of course you can feel any way you want about this sh1t but to me its a solid album 4.5 outta 5. Almost perfect, one wack joint and one “ehhh” but good luck finding any major album release touchin this within the next few years.
June 2nd, 2008 at 5:39 pm
this shit gets played out quick
lyrics are weak as hell
good production on some songs..but that dont last long…
3 or 4 good songs…rest are blah
June 2nd, 2008 at 5:47 pm
How much do y’all think he’ll make his first week? I say 150-200 tops!
June 2nd, 2008 at 5:49 pm
ashely i wouldn’t rape lil wayne if i was a girl
im not big fan of whoopie goldberg/ predator mix
June 2nd, 2008 at 5:49 pm
who give a skunk smellin ass about the pic we talkin about the album. I think lil wayne doesn’t really need to create a classic album and he don’t really need a classic album period being that it to late not only that ya’ll wouldn’t even give him his prop anyway. And that probably because ya’ll know how great he is lyrically. But instead ya’ll frontin talking about his lyric are wack. I think at this time in his career the success that he has and the lyrical skills that he shown prove it all. And mean as long as people appreciate and respect and give him the prop that he deserve then that all that matter. I mean at a point alot of people were appreciating his music to the point where one of his song were number one. And not only that he had a alot of blog fan on these website now all of a sudden he lost them that show you how many fake fans he had…lol
June 2nd, 2008 at 5:51 pm
this dude will do big numbers
people paid dr korkvakian for death..so lil wayne is the next step
June 2nd, 2008 at 5:58 pm
over-rated. over-exposed. career over soon. these niggaz gotta stop crowning themself and setting the bar too high for themselves. give the people a chance to say who is the king or whatever. maybe i went into listening to this album expecting too much. the best thing he could do right now is push the date up cause it was leaked. the internet will help and hurt u. now its fuck these d.j.’s. no fuck these bloggers gassing u.
June 2nd, 2008 at 6:09 pm
#61 scorpio… first week doesn’t even matter anymore and it shouldn’t matter to anyone being that no matter how good or most anticipated an album is you got to understand that there bootlegger. And that basically cheating if it wasn’t for bootlegging album will will go platinum. But being that there lots of album being bootlegging album now and days go plastic first week. I really don’t care about sell it about the quality material and that what lil wayne has on most of his album. I mean im pretty sure people bootlegged tha carter 3 anyway so it doesn’t matter unless you add the sell together. But until then fuck bootlegger ”except the one who be bootlegging them raw ass movie and be selling them for $5 buck”. But anyway in my opinion wheather lil wayne album is bootlegged or not lil wayne album should sell gold first week.
June 2nd, 2008 at 6:16 pm
OMG! “PERPLEX” who asked you if you would rape lil wayne you faggot! you’re a guy! Im gonna throw up
and I wasnt talking about wayne either. You’re exposed
@ MIZZ y you still here?
June 2nd, 2008 at 6:17 pm
Classic? Fuck No. Garbage? Fuck No.
But whoever saidthis is the best of the Carters needs to get their ears check its clearly his worst of the 3
Out of all of the songs hes released he still hasnt found his identity…Its kinda sad because if Carter 1 was Carter 3 and vice versa he would have silenced his critics but someway he managed to get worse overtime
Waynes Best Albums (In Order)
1. Lights Out
2. Carter 1
3. Block Is Hot
4. Carter 2
5. Carter 3
6. 500 Degreez
but most of yall just became fans after Carter 1 so u mite not know that dude was actually spitting b4 the crack and syrup fucked him up
June 2nd, 2008 at 6:18 pm
I think the album is hot lot of good songs and lyrics is tight beats is hot la la sounds good to me don’t know why others didn’t like it ignoring the fact that busta blessed the track also but as far as classiic goes I guess it depends on how u look at it maybe for this point and time it is jayz and all the other classics were for that time notice those were back in the day but u can expect people to make similar music now cause were not in those times anymore not even jayz himself makes the same music like before so don’t compare it to back then its a whole different thing now and this is what’s hot right now and weezy one of the best right now one of the best albums betta then a lot of other albums out get rich or die trying was a classic 2 so give wayne more credit if its not classic its pretty close to be but its still to early though
June 2nd, 2008 at 6:30 pm
I’ve Only Herd, Five Songs Off The Album And Judging From Those Five Songs, The Album Should Be Fire..That PhoneHome Is My Shid, But Anywayz Imma Just Wait Untill The Album Drops June 10,To See For Myself.
June 2nd, 2008 at 6:45 pm
yo I ain’t on waynes dick like everyone else, but this is def a great album IMO youre intitled to yours.
it ain’t comparing to pac or biggie cuz the rap game has changed since then.
Quit hatin and push this shit up to a 4/5 cuz Wayne deserves it.
June 2nd, 2008 at 6:49 pm
NOT A CLASSIC AT ALL
HOW U GUNNA SAY ITS A CLASSIC, BUT NOT LIKE PAC OR BIGGIE??
EITHER ITS A CLASSIC OR NOT
KANYE WEST ALBUM WUS BETTER THAN THIS, AND COMMON, AND JAY-Z’S SO IF THIS IS A CLASSIC THEN THOSE NEED TO GO ON THE WALL RIGHT NEXT TO IT
CARTER III GETS 2.5/5
PLUS ALL HE DUZ IS BRAG ABOUT HOW GREAT HE IS ON EVERYOTHER TRACC… TRASH IT
June 2nd, 2008 at 7:06 pm
Why does an album have to be a classic or completely wack? Since when does a good album become a classic before it even drops? Stop obsessing over labels and worry about whether the music is actually any good.
June 2nd, 2008 at 7:06 pm
Classic. Best since get rich or die tryin
June 2nd, 2008 at 7:14 pm
GET A LIFE WHITE BREAD
June 2nd, 2008 at 7:17 pm
Fuckin Luke & the 69 Boys cd’s was better than this shit !
June 2nd, 2008 at 7:19 pm
u wayne dick ridahs know that album is garbage, anybody who lives and breathes hip-hop and not lil waynes pubic odor knows that the carter 3 is wiggity wack especially for someone with his status, if ur the best rapper alive u better make a classic album before u die……….artist with classic abulms - nas, big, jay, pac’s whole life was classic, outkast….or critically acclaimed shit….yo, one lupe line or verse destroys a lil wayne album….yall need to clean out ya ears or wake up and smell the folgers homie
June 2nd, 2008 at 7:32 pm
good doesnt mean great
and if u have to say becuz of all the wack shit that came out b4 this is a classic. then u already lost the arguement.
so 3.5/5 is good

June 2nd, 2008 at 7:57 pm
this is a very good album and for people to say it’s wack they dick riding on some other shit
there is alot of tracks that were hot
tie my hand is a hot track and he spoke from his soul and for new orleans
and misunderstood was good cause he spoke about fact that is going on in america and also about al shapton
a dude always tryin to be in the limelight of tragedy
and mr carter was hot cause hov pass the torch to him
i give this albume a 4 out of 5 it a very good album
i would say it falls in the classic catagory
but haters say it’s not cause shit isn’t a big or pac
guess what no one can be big and no one can be pac so don’t compare to people that are dead
wayne is wayne so stop comparing
man did his own thing and this is him
rate him on that and not base on a big album or pac album
June 2nd, 2008 at 7:59 pm
this album is fuckin garbo.
only thing hot was Fab/Juelz and Jay-Z verse..
June 2nd, 2008 at 8:01 pm

Live on Mixtapes Album 4/10
(Ive been playing the album nonstop since it leaked. Its classic)
June 2nd, 2008 at 8:16 pm
its not a wack album thats for sure…very good piece of work. there are some tracks that just throw me off like “got money” that could of been left off “la la” the verses were ok but the la la la shit was annoying i dont like mrs officer either and “comfortable” other than those 4 songs the album is flawless IMO. maestro is a beast IMO. he is my favorite producer out right now. my two favorite tracks are “mr carter” of course and “tie my hands” and “3 peat” is hard.
June 2nd, 2008 at 8:20 pm
He raps just like a dipset. All word play that connects but will be hard to understand and get the meaning from listening to it once. (replay) Not classic people
June 2nd, 2008 at 8:36 pm

June 2nd, 2008 at 8:36 pm

June 2nd, 2008 at 8:40 pm
#72:
you picked Lights Out as the best wayne album??
#81:
C3 best album in the last few years? You gotta be kidding me right?
The Cool?
Finding Forever?
American Gangster?
I mean Wayne tried, but he failed as far as putting a complete album out period.
If anything, I would compare it with Fabs last album.Good, but not great.
June 2nd, 2008 at 9:25 pm
I am serious, this album is better than American Gangster, The Cool(I love that fucking album, but the C3 has it)
By the way, I aint no wayne dick rider either, iLLmatic is my fav album man, so you know that I aint no new fifty cent listening, soulja boy glass wearin muthafucka
It deserves to bea classic(in 2008), in this climate of bubblegum music shit.
.
peace
June 2nd, 2008 at 9:45 pm
Oh I if anybody else doubts me being a dickrider of waynes
I listened to the album 5 times, just to make sure I didnt miss anything.
I listened to the cool like 50 times alreays, haha, still fire though imo
June 2nd, 2008 at 9:51 pm
the Carter III is weak from a guy who is supposed 2 b the “best rapper alive”…its a couple hot tracks on there but as a whole the album is pretty weak compared to some of the mixtapes and mixtape tracks that he came out with earlier……now im lookin forward to LAX
June 2nd, 2008 at 10:19 pm
3/5
The album to me is misleading as 3 Peat opens the album. 3 Peat sets off the album in a “banger” kinda way, and then for me it falls apart from there.
Let the Beat Build..while im a HUGE kanYe fan, not his best work on that beat. the concept was nice and all but it didnt match the self-proclaimed “Best rapper alive”, yeah whatever.
La La is trash. I hope he didnt pay but like Ten bucks for that beat.
best song on the album: Mr. Carter ft. THE GREATEST OF ALL TIME
Thank You
You’re Welcome
June 2nd, 2008 at 10:24 pm
the worst song on this album is without a doubt, got money. lala is not half bad.
June 2nd, 2008 at 11:21 pm

Listen to Bun B album, Now thats real gangster music people.
June 2nd, 2008 at 11:36 pm
i’ll give it a 1.5, nah i cant even lie i dont like little wayne, because my favorite rappers are actually good but little mans album wasnt as bad as I thought, I would give it a 3/5 because he doesnt impress lyrically, and sometimes he shows the potential then says things like “fresher than new rain” (as oppose to old rain smh) but the beats are banging and i would agree that it is def not a classic album… because think about classics i think of(no order): Illmatic, Reasonable Doubt, Ready to Die, Black on Both Sides, Amerikkka’s Most Wanted, Paid In Full, Only Built for Cuban Linx, Supreme Clientle, Marshall Mathers LP, Get Rich Or Die Tryin (dont front its a good album), Food and Liquor and there are some others. For yall youngins that think wayne is the greatest cop those albums and then… compare… Games Album will be better (well he has nothing to prove because his albums are way better than weezy’s
June 3rd, 2008 at 12:52 am
ppl usin the word classic way to damn often with these weak albums!!!!!!!! u couldnt listen to this album more than twice b4 feelin the need to turn that shit off…. there are good albums, great albums, really great albums, then if u could name an album from 88′ u can think about callin an album classic… this is a nice review n i agree with most of it…

What The Fuck Are We Talkin’ About?
June 3rd, 2008 at 8:29 am
The album is something u can listen to, not completely unbearable, I think Game is going to have album of the year, but I will wait until that leaks to pass judgement. But either way another album from Wayne, truly now that this has dropped it makes u want to listen to the first carter and carter 2 again and think what happened. Creatively it was there but the execution was terrible
June 3rd, 2008 at 10:15 am

June 3rd, 2008 at 3:50 pm
C3! 3 PEAT!
June 3rd, 2008 at 4:23 pm
RTNY PLS TAKE NOTE THAT THIS IS THE SAME TV CHAIN/CONGLOMERATE THAT PUT BENJAMINE 3STAX ON THE ‘08 HOTTEST MC LIST…..UHHHH, DO THEY EMPLOY BRAIN DEAD PPL ????
(3STAX is one of the GREATEST …but there’s a diff. between GREAT AND HOT example: 3STAX=GREAT…SOULJA BOY=HOT (well he’s not hot anymore but you catch my drift))
CLASSIC?? …Yup, we now proof they employ brain dead ppl !!!
HOT?? Yup…im not his biggest fan but the album’s damn hot…take out 3 or 4 weak ass songs…make the album 12tracks long….and thennnnnnnnnn you gots yourself something to concider…
A MILLI ??? I doubt it…but I do predict well over half that…
ps: 1 thing that needs to be said and that wayne needs to be credited on is his accomplishments and perseverance on BUILDING HIS OWN HYPE !!!
June 3rd, 2008 at 6:45 pm
Some ya’ll niggas up here r true dick riders….I cosign #1…This aint close to a classic album at all….Dont get me wrong in got some hot tracks but there are only a few….This review was perfect his lyrics on some tracks was wack. A 3.5/5 is a perfect rating for this LP. He should have came harder no homo. I am disappointed because he has been hyped up so much as the Best Rapper Alive….Yea right ya niggas is nuts hahahahah…..American Gangster was better than this….Lyrically Hov smashed the nigga on his on song with 1 verse hahahaha..
June 3rd, 2008 at 8:21 pm
The Carter 3 might not be consider a classic now but I believe it will be debated in the long run. Okay even though there are minor misses but that okay beause some people whole album garbage. Get money shouldnt been on the album if anything should have been on the deluxe edition with comfortable to be honest really havent listen 2 dat song but I few once a song come on it supose 2 catch yo attention. My favorite song and possibly his best is Dr.Carter. When I 1st heard it 4 da 1st time I excited and that the reason I’m writing my perception because dont wont people 2 look at da flws which are minior.
Standout: DR.Carter, Phone Home…Let the beat build..A Milli….Shoot Me Down….3 Peat…Mr. Carter…Lollipop..my list probably be bigger but havent listening 2 da whole album because didnt want the leaked 2 ruining it 4 me. I’m da kind of person who like 2 buy albums dat I know are classic or closed 2 classic.
Song I feel would had shut all haters down dat he should choose is Gossip…I feel like dying…Something u forgot….Kush…I’m ME..I’m Breast….I know the future…word of fanasty…did it before..

Wanye had the chance to really solitify his spot on the elite list on MCs, but he dropped the ball.
C3=3.5/5
June 4th, 2008 at 9:27 am
Classic Albums,Take a Nations Of Million, Criminal Minded, Amerikkka Most Wanted, Illmatic,Reasonable Doubt(a couple of Jay albums)Just to name of few. Lil Wayne is Lil Wayne is he the best rapper alive? Nope might be hot right now but not the best. To sell a million records in the first week is too hard to do with all the downloading. He is a good colabo artist and sing the hell out of a hook.
June 4th, 2008 at 10:45 am
i disagree the song a milli is one of the hottest songs on they album, and it’s possible to hear weezy’s verse on the song. It’s just that the beat so hot that you don’t really care what weezy says in the song.So at the end you just pay attention to the beat instead.
June 4th, 2008 at 3:02 pm
“I’m a Cash Money Millionaire, stronger than Nigerian hair.” - ‘A Milli’. Brilliant track, I don’t have the album yet but this song totally makes me wanna buy it. Pity that everyone rates it so low.
June 4th, 2008 at 4:13 pm
Weezy has some hot stuff,, i just dont get how many peopel can honestly say this is a good album…it rerally frustrates me….white bread is an idiot and if i ever see you i will kill you
June 4th, 2008 at 4:38 pm
3/5 Any higher and ya’ll dickriding Wayne. The album starts off with a bang then it fizzles in the middle and comes back around at the end. Far from perfect, not all that great but pretty good.
June 4th, 2008 at 4:40 pm

That pretty much sums of Wayne entire career and skills as a rapper. The beats he spits on are so good that you don’t care what he’s saying you just listen to the beat. That doesn’t make him the Best Rapper Alive. Wayne is usually babbling nonsense over hot beats. It’s his delivery and charisma that carry him. Not his lyrics. And definetly not his image (him being coked up, syruped up homosexual who shot himself).
June 4th, 2008 at 5:25 pm
nigga hell yeah it’s gonna sell a mille in the frist week!nigga’s have been waiting for months for this shit!
June 4th, 2008 at 5:38 pm
I am reading this thread and I am wondering what sum of you people want out of Wayne. I heard the album the first time and I was like OK another Wayne album , but after hearing it again I have to say that is one of the best albums I have heard in a long time wen it comes to originality. those DBanner productions are for listeners like me from the south that like a lil bass in the trunk in all i give it an 7/10 he will atleast go gold the first week. This is hands down Wayne’s best album yet.
June 5th, 2008 at 10:27 am
Got the album yesterday! Over here in Amsterdam (The Netherlands,Europe) it already dropped…
Good album! If u would take “Mrs. Officer”, “La La” and “Got Money” off the album and replace them with “I’m me” and “Gossip” than shit would be a classic!!! Anyway, I got the “Deluxe edition.” Wich means it’s a double cd including “The Leak” So in total u get 16+5=21 songs. From those 21 songs, 17 are straight classic. Not a bad investment if u ask me. Let’s be honest…how many albums have u bought that have 17 dope songs??!!! NOT MANY!!! You have to give credit to the guy for that. And i’m no youngster, 27 years old and been listening HIPHOP since the ‘80 peoples….

Fav track on the album…”Playin’ with Fire!!!”
June 6th, 2008 at 10:28 am
The album is pretty good. We all expected much more because we anticipated the album for so long and his buzz was strong. This album is extra okay. As long as Jay and Kanye have warm blood running through their veins, lil wayne can never be the best rapper alive. Wayne can only be mentioned in the same conversation with GOOD rappers (Ross, Jeezy, Luda, Game), but not the GREAT rappers.
“THE GIRL IS MINE, LIFE’S A BITCH SO THE WHOLE WORLD IS MINE”….They can’t see Jay yet.
June 6th, 2008 at 10:32 am

Jay’s verse >>> any other verse on the album. Production outshines waynes lyrics (way too complacent/high/fucked up). And for real Bun B’s albums shits on this for real. And I ain’t a massive fan of any of those cats mentioned but its the truth. i havent been feeling jay the way i used to but mr.carter and best thing(with Ush) are on repeat in my house for real! If Jay had a load of joints on their level on a new album then god damn! But yea after 5 days i still havent listened completely through the carter 3
June 7th, 2008 at 3:21 pm
C3 does = Trash, his mix tape shit is way better then his album material…imma cop it though, mos def the bootleg, cuz im not supportin this GARBAGE…COP THAT GUNIT ALBUM

This cd took so long to come out it was expected to be a classic. It would of been to if Wayne didn’t leak out eerr thang he do. It’s Weezy fault no one think it a classic as far as what I give..3 outta 5.. Now I gotta wait till July to hear a real classic when the new Nas cd come out..
Thanks Wayne
June 10th, 2008 at 1:19 pm
Wayne Wayne Wayne…is a great rapper and mc, but tha Carter III did not live up to all the hype. he has a few tracks that are good like Dr. Carter and Mr. Carter, but his lyrics fell off the map a lil. ill over all give it a 3 1/2 out of 5, because we all know wayne can spit like chew tabacco, but he did not show it on this album. If you know weezy like me. I say Dedication 2, Color of money, Lilweezyana, Da Drought 3, New Orleans Nightmare 6 mixtapes are all way better then this album.
June 10th, 2008 at 3:53 pm
ill give it a 4.5 its good but to tell u the turth i expected more he should have but shit like “im me” and “gossip” those songs were dope.. real talk though hes the best rapper out here right now,, him and lupe
June 11th, 2008 at 1:29 am
how can wayne give a classic album when everybody leaks his music and he cant never get albums put together. this album may not be looked upon as a classic but shit look at jus how hard he had to work to get it put out. to me he jus put this album out to give people what they wanted i think he knows he has to do better. but how can he when its like wayne give a good album but then all the music gets leaked. he has to go back and forth to get music done then try and keep everyone pleased who loves his music. so to me wayne is great becuz of what he faces as a rapper in this time and age. jay pac big didnt go through what wayne does. so you gotta crown him. if jay was wayne right now he would be in the same boat. he wouldnt be able to deal with what wayne does.
June 11th, 2008 at 3:00 pm
I’m not a big Wayne fan, but this is a nice album. Classic status remains to be seen. Remember Reasonable Doubt did not get the love it was initially do. Don’t like phone home at all. but the others are good. 3Peat is fire!!!!
June 12th, 2008 at 12:24 pm
Samir Siddiqui? What are you sayin? The album wasn’t made for you to critique or judge. The album’s deep and it’s truly something we have never heard before. Most definately going to be the smash of the summer. Get your blunts lit and put weezy in your in deck
June 12th, 2008 at 12:29 pm
Samir Siddiqui, your smokin crack….it’s 2008…tell me the last CD that was really great? I can’t even remember, da carter III is deep and truly something that we haven’t heard of. Smoke a blunt and listen again, you might get it….lol
June 12th, 2008 at 3:16 pm
wow i can’t believe how many ppl are callin this a classic. are u serious??? ok i was gonna jus come here and give my opinion and just leave but seein all these dudes sayin it’s a classic jus pissed me off. and to the dude above, there have actually been quite a few more recent releases that were great. two off the top of my head; lupe fiaso’s ‘food & liquor’ and ‘the cool’ were great, especially the cool cuz lupe was more on track with the concept of the album and wasn’t in creative add mode. jay’s ‘american gangster’ is probably the closest thing he’s gonna get to ‘reasonable doubt’ these days. and while some may not consider talib kweli’s most recent efforts as classic as ‘quality’, he’s still shown he’s a lyrical force. so plz don’t gimme the bull that classic or at least great material can’t be done nowadays. now, as far as the carter iii, i said it before and i’ll say it again, wayne got lazy. now i’m not saying it’s bad and i do give him props for trying new things and concepts, but he fell off lyrically. he needs to get back to that dedication/dedication 2 level man. he jus ain’t there no more. the highs are high (shoot me down, dr. carter, tie my hands) and the lows are low (phone home, his verse on you ain’t got nuthin, 2nd a milli verse where he literally talks about NOTHIN) and then there are a bunch of tracks that’s average (got money, comfortable, mrs. officer). wayne showed flashes but he didn’t spaz on a track like he did on bm jr and his mixtapes tracks. bottom line, it’s straight and u’ll probably definitely cop if ur a wayne fan, but it’s far from a classic and it needed to be one, with as much hype and anticipation it had.
June 14th, 2008 at 12:04 am
4 my opinion dis album was dope. wayne delivered everything. his lyrics were genius his swagger was phenominal and brought it to da table..there is only 1 trck dat was wack which is got money..he didnt have to hook up wit t-pain wit dat 1. so 4 all ur who cant appreciate the best rapper alive doin his thing den get off his dick and let him do him cuz right now he making more money dan yall will ever have just off da carter 3 and dats real talk
June 14th, 2008 at 12:10 am
o my god niggaz!!! listen 2 da fuckin lyrics!!!!!! if u had a creative mind and opened up ur ears u figure out y ppl call dis album classic……..so big ups 2 da greatest rapper alive cuz u doin ur damn thing
“fuck yall u hatin 4 no reason”
Lil wayne
June 14th, 2008 at 12:25 pm

NO NO NO!!! LOL this shit is all wrong. first of all, La La was a vicious track… second of all, lil wayne DOES deserve to be on the list with Jay, 2Pac, and Biggie for the fact that this album resembles Biggie’s two albums. if people would stop being dick-riders to Biggie, they would see that while he had songz that actually said something, most of his songz were highly-influenced by perversion. just go on any website that has a songlist for Biggie’s first album. it can easily be seen that his topics, besides a few songz, were any more hip hop than Weezy’s whole album.

Lil’ Wayne AKA Lil’ Wack is one of the hottest worst rappers of all time. Let’s break this down a bit. If he happened to be Asian, Latino, White or a Woman every magazine, television and radio station would laugh him off the page or off the air. That is, if he/she would get any play. Do everyone a favor. Take one of his songs and print out the lyrics. Then read the lyrics. Actually, hand it to your favorite white dude that raps (everyone knows at least one) and have him go in front of a crowd and bust it. Guess what? It would be CORNY. Just like Lil’ Wayne is. Hasn’t his family been rich since he was 8? In 1992 CMR was selling hundreds of thousands of albums and in 1997 Cash Money signed a 30 Million dollar deal with Universal (Lil’ Wayne was 14). So what does Lil’ Wack know about hustlin’ in the streets and poverty and killin’ in the streets? NOTHING!!! He’s lived a pampered childhood. Why does he compare himself to the greatest rappers to ever live when he should be comparing himself to Tim Dog (look that one up)? Because he is a CLOWN and Hip Hop is turning into a circus! Lil’ Wack AKA Lil’ Wayne AKA Knows Lil’ Pain (but raps as if he has been in the struggle) shouldn’t be getting any airplay let alone a review on his wackest, I mean, latest album. He better thank his Daddy for setting him up with a deal-for-no-talent contract. Maybe that is why he is a grown man kissing his Daddy on the mouth.
