Review Of Jay-Z’s Glastonbury Performance (Full Performance Video)
Just finished watching the Jay-z performance, well about an hour ago. Been looking forward to his performance the whole day and he killed it! There were just over 300,000 people in the field so I really couldn’t get any video but I managed to get the billi freestyle but the sound makes it not worth listening to. He came out with a guitar mocking oasis because of their comments about him performing. This was my second time going to Glastonbury and from all the performances there have been this has to be in the top 3 of all time. For a hip-hop artist to come out to a white dominated event and rock/indie dominated event to be one of the only hip-hop acts (not forgetting Lupe) they both did their thing. Especially to do the his act on his own, well apart from memphis bleek who was there for a couple of songs. And Beyonce was there in the background and I’m guessing like most of the other people there thought she would come out and do a song.
And although this has nothing to do with the Jay-z performance there might be a video of Amy Winehouse punching a fan coming on to the internet soon, so you might want to keep an eye out for that. And I’m not to sure if you have seen the video of Lupe and his comments “Fuck Bush, Fuck Robert Mugabe” and I ain’t to sure about what’s going to happen to him since the Dixi Chicks and their comments, so that might be something to look out for. Well, anyway the Jay-z performance was deffinetly the best of this years Glastonbury and I’m still surprised it did not sell out.-Tarisai Makotore
Side-note the crackhead Amy Winehouse took a shot at Kanye West:
“amy-winehouse also told the audience to get ready for jay-z and be grateful they weren’t gettying kanye-west as he is a cunt” – bee

@ #5 Dj
Oasis singer, Noel Gallagher said that Jay-Z shouldn’t be performing at the festival, so Jay-Z had the guitar to mock him. That’s why he was singing Oasis’ song Wonderwall in the video.

Niggas dont understand that Jay has that STAR Quality and the Body of Work to work any kind of audience. Any age, any race. Him & Beyonce can rock a show for damn near any audience with their live performances.
June 28th, 2008 at 11:16 pm
@so get like me
Y’all need to calm down with all that history in the making. WTF? This turned out to be big because of the negative feedback from some rockartist about why Jay headline a rockfestival. It’s the rockbands that sold out that festival NOT Jay. You give him too much credit. Jay did well though and he proved himself being a great live artist.
Anyway, There have been several hiphop artists doing great shows on festivals like this. Wu Tang Clan, Eminem, The Roots, DMX and the list goes on and on. The best I’ve ever seen is Outcast. they destroy everybody LIVE.
June 28th, 2008 at 11:22 pm
was he really gonna cry?
June 28th, 2008 at 11:31 pm
#Whoa
True plenty of rappers have been on rockfestivals but Jay-z is the fist one to headline a rockfestival. That never happened before and that’s why all the criticism. I do agree with you though that the public was there to watch the rock/Indie groups. Jay-z did his thing though and I’m sure he surprised alot of those people who don’t really listen to hiphop music. I also like Outcast they are simply amazing and DMX was off the hook at Woodstock back in 1999.

@ whoa, yea the rock bands may have sold out the festival..
but the shit that I was kicking is that
first off my nig with the hate that was tossed at jigga them mother fuckers could’ve left before his set a nobody was threaten them to say there that’s my point about the sold out crowd hell the fuck yea them rock bands is the sole purpose of that shit selling out ..but again (THEY COULD’VE DIPPED THE FUCK OUT!)..which is point in me bringing it up in MY post
and 2 . they could’ve boo’ed his ass the fuck off the staged or pull the shit they did to fif and so on and threw some shit at that nigga’s noggin! true talk..BUT THEY DIDN’T they was all into that shit like they was from bk
that was the point and it is history in the making showing people hiphop is not some lower class of music if you can’t respect that then fuck you doing on this site?
and at the end of the day the most important part of this is neither my review..the news stations…other artist basically nobody can changed the (FACT!) that he rocked that crowd something serious & that’s all the matters

@so get like me
I’ve been to many different festivals and They rarely boo artists. They usually give the artist a shot to do their thing and if it suck then they boo regardless of genre.
Most of the crowd didn’t hate on Jay-z. This stuff got a lot of publicity because Noel made some remarks about Jay. Media made this much bigger than what it really was. Of course there were some fans who were worried that having Jay as the headline could be a big risk not to attract as many people as possible. You gotta understand their concern. Imagine if a rockband would headline summerjam? There would be some fans who wouldn’t think that would be such a good idea. But at the end of the day festivals like this have TONS of loyal fans and they know that their favorite bands are going to be there so it doesn’t matter that Jay did headline that festival.
My point is what you need to understand is that many rappers have been at festivals like this and rocked the crowed like crazy plenty of times in the past. This is nothing new, but you seem to think Jay did something no other rapper has ever done before on that stage. Hiphop music IS respected and been respected for many years..you need to get out more.
June 29th, 2008 at 12:30 am
He overcame the odds..that’s what makes this special. His performance defined Hip-hop and also himself..seriously other people have done things, but not to this magnitude. From all the reviews..hands down he had the BEST performance. He just solidified hip-hop and himself in the history of Glastonbury! HOVA the GOD
