Jay-Z Responds To Critics Of His Glastonbury Upcoming Appearance

“It’s ridiculous, if we don’t embrace what is new, then how do we progress? I’ve never actually experienced anything like that before. It’s 2008, what is that about?”

“I listen to all types of music and that’s what should happen, that’s what the world should be about, mixing culture. There’s only good music and bad music.”

“I think that hip-hop is music and an art form, it’s poetry and it should be accepted and respected like any other art form. It’s just coming from a different perspective.” - Jay-Z

Full Story: VirtualFestivals

Is this a case of just adding the wrong element? What would happen if the Fall Out Boys were set to headline Summer Jam? I think there would be less controversy if he wasn’t the headliner but I’m sure he will add a rock feeling to his performance.

If anyone is going email me at info@realtalkny.net

Jay needs to understand that it’s not about disrespect him as a rapper. Most of the people going to glastonbury are rock/Indie type of folks who in general are not interested in hiphop music no matter how popular you are in you’re own genre. You rarely see hiphop artist at festivals like Glastonbury for a reason. Jay is a huge star in America where hiphop is a lot more mainstream, but if you would headline Jay here in America at a rockfestival it wouldn’t work either. Overseas Jay is not a big crossover star like he is here in America so to add him to the festival’s headliner at a rock festival will of course get critizied.

I think the promoters of the festival wanted a more diverse crowd and is now trying to get the hiphop crowd to come to Glastonbury to make it a little different. They took a big risk to make Jay the headliner cause they know that’s not the type of artist that most of the people are their to watch. Jay is a great live artist so hopefully he’ll put on a good performance and surprise alot of the Rock/Indie people.

I mean can we give a Jay a chance and see how the show comes out? The audience for the Glastonbury festival might surprise us and rock with Jay than they do with the millions of other acts that are on this bill. There is a reason why he was approached and added to the bill.

I co-sign what Jay-Z saying and when some thing is new like Hip Hop will be at this concert maybe Kayne would of bein better because has that crossover between black and white fans and is proabaly more accepted than Jay-Z will be.

one of the things i respect about jay is that he didnt go the ghetto route and talk shit like all these other rappers would have done. he responded with class. that shows you the type of man he has become.

True and It’s easy to see why he has become so successful in this industry. It shows how he carry himself both verbally and action.

This is nothing to do with Jay-Z personally, its the fact that the festival is a rock festival. It would be like an indie or rock band headlining at Summerjam or something. You would get the same reaction!

Actually, some of these people aren’t feeling Jay because they’re racists. A rapper from the UK performed at one of their festivals that’s generally rock and although some people really rocked it out with him, some of them threw things at him like bottles and banana peels calling him a monkey and all kinds of other racial/racists terms. However, for the others, I agree with Jay. You could have put Coldplay or Fall Out Boy on the Summer Jam roster and hiphop would at least give them a chance. That’s all Jay’s asking for–a chance. I just hate how close minded people can be in this world. It’s 2008, man. Let that other stuff ride already!

I think the performance could work if he come out with Linkin Park 1st then go into his stuff. Jay has a kinds of fans but he will have to perform certain songs
