Article On Gang Hand Signs
Sports blogs and talk shows exploded with speculation on whether the sign was a “b” for Blood (or perhaps Boston), a “bk” for Blood Killer, or just a team signal meaning “blood, sweat, and tears.” Pierce, in his one public statement on the matter, denied that he was making a gang reference but didn’t specify what he actually had been trying to signal. Celtics executive director of basketball operations Danny Ainge said it was a “blood, sweat, and tears” sign that Pierce made often - but then became fuzzier when asked directly about the other meaning, saying he wasn’t sure there was a gang connection.

Damn Paul Pierce got fined $25,000 for hand gesture, that’s crazy. I don’t think Paul Pierce would do something stupid like throw gang signs up on national television. If it was a white player do you think he would get the same fine?

but when i saw the game live and how he reacted with the sign, i told somebody “damn this dude is throwin up gang signs on the court.” from what i have seen of ppl involved in gang stuff, it definitely looked like a gang sign especially with what was going on.
i dont think people would have thought it was a gang sign if karl malone did it.
so i think it has more to do with his overall personality, his swagger if you must.

You guys got it wrong. It’s not a blood sign or any other gang sign. It’s the hand sign for Boston. “3’s up.”
Although the “3’s” is similar, it is different from the Blood sign. The blood sign, the 3 fingers are closed together. The boston 3 sign, the 3 fingers are spread from each other.
I cant believe people are making such a big deal of this. People from Boston know this is the Boston sign, thats why it’s just out of towners whos making a big deal out of this.

you guys remember stephen jackson and matt barnes? have you ever watched any warrior games? i’ve seen barnes and jack throw up the exact same b sign almost everytime they made a clutch three. it was prevalent in the playoffs last year with barnes and early this season with jack.
jackson is a proven blood, but you don’t see him getting fined whenever he throws up the b sign do you? jack has a worse track record with the league than pierce also.
