A Look At Cavi Clothing
CaviNYC.com
Cavi (short for “caviar”) has laid its foundation on the short sleeve woven military shirt. Since the brand’s inception in 2004, the modern interpretation of the brand’s staple item has been, and continues to be, produced in New York City. Bypassing fashion’s recent “washed down” trend, Cavi’s clean and crisp aesthetic creates a timeless and masculine image.
“Military never goes out of style. It always has that rugged, masculine look, ” states Cavi founder Phil Gapud. The ability to combine a freshly starched shirt with a pair of raw denim was the goal of the brand since day one, but it’s the brand’s fearless use of color, high quality standard, and impeccable attention to detail that keeps the line fresh and captivating every season, putting its own modern twist on military.
Cavi can be seen on the likes of Jay-Z, T.I., Fabolous and various other celebs. The brand got its start a few years ago and has managed to quickly build a reputation for style and quality. You can check the site to see what they got in store for the 08 Spring season.
Cavi is currently seeking interns for fashion design, marketing, promotions & administrative tasks. If interested email resumes to PGAPUD@CaviNYC.com

Alright, lets school everyone on cavis brand. First of all, their just adding to the washed out brands in new york, first the all over print, and now this? This is just a different version of washed down. Wow, I can’t believe these shirts retail for 318 dollars, and I don’t understand how celebrities think these shirts are innovative and worth the price, I guess celebriites will where shit from conway if it was given higher prices. My dad owns a factory in manhattan so lets just break down the pricing on making a cavi shirt in new york. Basically cavi uses cheap ass fabric, chemical protectent treated 100 percent cotton twill, which is about 2 dollars a yard in fabric. A short sleeved button down like theirs is about 2 and a half yards in fabric, the patches add another 5 dollars to the cost of the garment, and then to sew it in production (meaning 50 to however many they make, the price is about 20 dollars a shirt. so their cost is like 31 dollars. A luxury clothing store like bergdorf goodman or saks fifth ave marks the price up by 2.4 percent. The stores they have their shit in probably mark it up around 2.1 percent or do consignment. Basically calculating the 2.1 markup divided by the price I saw one of those shirts selling for at 318 dollars leaves their profit at 120 dollars which is four times what they put into it which is outrageous. Come on now, this definately isn’t a luxury brand, and their quality is terrible, I looked closely at their shirts and its all basically a single needle which even cuts cost down even more and the garment can be sewn in half the time. It takes 5 minutes to put all the patches on. Basically they really shouldn’t be selling the shirts for more than 150 dollars. Everyone buying these is getting ripped off, and the celebrities don’t even know shit because their wearing the shirts thinking only that its so cool cause their rockin a 300 dollar buttondown shirt. You can go into barneys, saks, and bergdorf goodman and you can find short sleeved buttondowns cheaper than theirs at 10 times a higher quality. You see everyone, cavi is sitting back in the cut, laughing because they have managed to sell and market a product that can be made dirt cheap, and mark the price up so high it’s rediculous, and because of the price all of a sudden everyone thinks their high quality and exclusive. Let me tell you something, price doesn’t mean its good quality. You can find things sewn just as good as theirs in conway. So basically if someone raised the prices high as shit at conway and marketed their store as a luxury store all of a sudden everyone gonna want that shit. Cavi should be sold in conway. Your getting ripped off for that shirt you want to know why? Because I could go to the garment district, buy fabric, buy patches, and have it sewn in the garment district for 100 dollars, same shit their selling to you for 318 dollars. Now doesn’t that make you skeptical of their clothing. I want to see a brand do something creative yet cool. I see real talk said that their shit is innovative, how is that? Everything on the garment is exactly the same it is in the military. How is that innovative, and the pattern is the same that dickies uses. 100 percent knocked off. They didn’t come with anything new, just adds to the washed down fashion industry. People need to take more pride in what their shopping for and really look for quality within the price. When a designer designs, they take inspiration from the military and incorporate bits and pieces and tweak it so it becomes theirs. Cavi just takes the same patch, doesn’t change it, puts their name and logo on there with a font you can find on the internet, uses the dickies shirt pattern, and runs with it. Now how is that creative. Now I see why they need interns for designs because they can’t come up with anything themselves. I definately couldn’t intern for them because I lll design some real shit and they won’t even understand it. I bet the CEO doesn’t even know how the fabric is made that he’s even using. This is when it is dumb people that don’t know anything about clothing want to start a clothing line. I work with clothing samples every day from people from all over new york at my dads factory in manhattan. My dad didn’t have shit when he started but now his factory is doing good. Just because I think it would be cool to come out with a cd and rap, doesn’t mean I should. And I’m not going to. Some people need to stick in their lane because they fuck the whole industry up and wash it down and just waste fabric. Cavi shit will die just like all over print hoodies is dying. Everyone looking for quick money. How about someone starting a clothing line and put some time and thought into that shit before you start it. Look at gilyard, they came to the table and were hot for a second, then fell the hell off because their designs suck. They ran out of money and press. And to end this conversation for everyone, I served 6 years in the military, and did 2 years in iraq in sadr city, I don’t like seeing patches that are exact replicas of the shit I have on my dress uniform that I earned. I have a CIB badge on my dress uniforms chest which means Combat Infantry Badge for being in the war. Now if cavi uses that shit, I’ll get an army lawyer and sue them for every penny they have. What gives u the right to use shit that people haved died to earn. People are still earning those badges. It’s called respect to our fellow soldiers that are still fighting for use even now. Don’t desecrate our soldiers with clothing like cavis. If cavi wants to use this shit, why don’t they go fight in the war, and it still doesn’t mean they should use that stuff. Thats like me coming out with uniforms that look like cops clothing, or coming out with clothing that looks like the russian army, come up with your own ideas first of all. You were born with a brain, use that shit or quit smoking crack!
