Why He’s Hot
Hold up. Just last year, T.I. was up for debate to be #1, and now he slips to #10? What happened? First of all, let’s be clear: Tip’s decline in ranking has nothing to do with his skills. We all know that he is still one of the best in the business and his popularity is still intact. Unfortunately, since almost topping the last list, Tip had to take an unforeseen, unwelcome hiatus when he was arrested in November on a slew of gun charges, leading to more than six months of house arrest. Promotions for his platinum T.I. vs. T.I.P. came to an end. The kibosh was put on the single "Hurt" and its video. Any chance of dropping another LP at the top of ‘08 was thwarted quick. Movies, endorsements — everything shut down. He says his arrest probably cost him between $10 million and $12 million. Musically, he was inactive for months while many of his peers continued to put out sterling material.
MTV is releasing one spot each day until the show itself airs on friday 10pm est. Thoughts on #10…

Ten is a good place for him at this point! I’m sure he will climb up the list as the year moves on. That’s what’s good about Hip Hop the list can and will change every 6 months

im a fan of TI but he aint done shit this year. i dont think he deserves to be on the list. what has he done in that past year? NOTHING. He hasnt even been heard of until the last month or so.

I don’t understand this list..I thought the judging started during the time from the last list til now. So between the time of the last list and now, T.I. has released a highly promoted album that went platinum, has been in American Gangster, and has been in commercials..then he had a highly publicized court case….so he has been “hot”..so I don’t see why he got a number 10 spot…unless MTV calls themselves trying to teach the youth by showing that when you break the law you lose “hotness”..this shit is weak..he shoulda atleast got a 6 or 7..but it depends on who is above him..but I was banking on Lupe getting 10 or 9..so I gotta see how this plays out

I dont see what tip gettin knocked has to do with his lack of “hottness”. his name is still in everybody’s mouth whether u talkin fans or rappers, shawty lo tryin to make a carrer off this nigga, and despite bein on house arrest, he just ripped the no matter what track and the life of the party wit kellz.
not to mention goin blow for blow wit lupe whos also in the top 10 on that superstar remix

He has to be in number 10 even if his album was hot he couldn’t promote it properly. I mean he was supposed to promote “Hurt” and he got locked up. How do you except to be number 1 when he couldn’t tour….make video cameos and so forth. He made the list based on skills and what he was able to do. Shit be grateful and number 1 will be either Weezy F Baby or Rick Ross….yall might hate it but the nicca is the greatest raper alive right now (sidebar Jay is great so is Nas…Talib etc etc but none of them are spitting the shit thats number 1 right now) and i rather see a Weezy stage show over TI any day YA DIG!!!
