Alicia Keys Releases A Statement On Her Gangsta Rap Comments In Blender

alicia

Alicia Keys has released the following statement regarding her recent interview with Blender Magazine:

“I feel it is necessary to clarify the comments that were made during my recent Blender magazine interview since they have been misrepresented.

Anyone who knows me and my character, knows that I am not a conspiracy theorist or, by implication, a racist. My comments about ‘gangsta rap’ were in no way trying to suggest that the government is responsible for creating this genre of rap music. The point that I was trying to make was that the term was over-sloganized by some of the media causing reactions that were not always positive. Many of the ‘gangsta rap’ lyrics articulate the problems of the artists’ experiences and I think all of us, including our leaders, could be doing more to address these problems including drugs, gang violence, crime, and other related social issues.”

This is Alicia Keys statement on her quotes released from Blender about, “Gangsta Rap.” You can see the rest of her statement below. Do you see her point or is she trying to save face?

Alicia Keys Thinks, “Gangsta Rap,” Was Created To Make Blacks Kill Each Other

“Additionally, regarding the AK-47 reference, AK-47 is a nickname given to me by some of my friends in jest, as an acronym for Alicia Keys and a metaphor for wowing people with my music and performances, “killing ‘em dead” on stage. The reference was in no way meant to have a literal, political or negative connotation.

The recent implications about me are too radical and too dramatic a departure from whom I have continually demonstrated myself to be. I work so hard and give so much of myself to bring about positive change to this world, and I only wish those efforts received as much press and attention as the misinterpretations of the Blender article.”

  5. vigorous Says:

America is so fucking pathetic and wack.
you people always turn the smallest things into big issues. if i was alicia keys I woulda said “SO FUCKING WHAT? I SAID WHAT I SAID IF YOU DON’T LIKE IT EAT A FUCKING DICK”…..this is how shit needs to be handled. I’m tired of people always having to explain themselves to media idiots. How about talking about your sorry economy plummeting. or your dumb-ass president being a fucking dumb ass and risking the welfare of your country every single day that goes by in iraq.

ye i’m dissing americans…..but you people on here dont get it twisted, i aint taling about you; i’m mostly talking about the retarded media and republcans

  6. The County Of Kings Says:

we know what u mean alicia, its not like u remy ma or khia. she shouldnt have even clarified her statement in the first place. if u dont get it, then u wasnt meant to get it

  7. SmoothTalker Says:

Talk about an airbrushed cover. She has eclectic taste in music, when I’ve heard her describe it in interviews.

  8. huh Says:

I don’t get it… what she said in the Blender mag could not be “misinterpreted” easily. She clearly stated she believed in this conspiracy theory. I like Alicia Keys, but the excuse sounds WAYYYY too different from the Blender interview. I guess she is trying to save the face.

  9. CHUCK NORRIS Says:

SHE’S TRYING TO SAVE FACE,NOTHING MORE NOTHING LESS

  10. Southern Queen Dee Says:

It’s easy to misinterpret someone’s statements, but in this case, it sounded obvious to me what she was trying to say. I don’t think she’s trying to save face, I think she’s clarifying what she meant for people who are judging her. In Blender’s case, however, I think they just took out the controversial statements to sell magazines because at the end of the day, it’s all about money.

  11. Reckless Says:

Im actually glad she clarified..and why shouldn’t she?…If people are taking her comments in a way that she didnt want people to, it only makes sense to “dumb it down” for people. I got the jist of what she was saying the first time but I actually believe in “conspiracies” i.e. THE TRUTH.

  12. WHITE BREAD........CHICAGO Says:

who give a fuck, i thought they were talking about her releasing another album or something man, fuck that shit man shit ain’t even that serious, on the real man mothafuckas need to chill out sit back and smoke some weed cuz shit wasn’t even that serious.

  13. WTF? Says:

SMH things like this happens all the time when celebs do interviews. Take anything out of context and you can make it a controversial statement and that’s what magazines do when it comes to topics that they know are controversial. Didn’t a magazine try to make it seem like Will Smith was an anti semite a few months ago when he talked about Hitler?

  14. Erica Says:

If you people knew what you where talking about you would know that she not only a great artist but a even better human being. She is involved in great charities including one called Keep a Child Alive that gives medicine to children in Africa who have AIDS. And she doesn’t do it because it trendy to give back but if you go to http://www.aliciainafrica.com you will see she is a very passionate person that wants to make a difference in the world. It is really sad that one misconstrued article could diminish all the positive stuff she has done. Like she said in her documentary if we spend as much time covering AIDS as we do on celebrities drama we would have a cure by now. SMH

I agreed then and still agree!
