Jay-Z Catching Hate For Being A Headliner For An Overseas Music Festival
“If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it,” Gallagher said in an interview, an audio of which was posted to the British Broadcasting Corp.’s Web site Monday. “If you break it, people ain’t gonna go. I’m sorry, but Jay-Z? … No chance.”
“There is also an interesting undercurrent in the suggestion that a black, U.S. hip-hop artist shouldn’t be playing in front of what many perceive to be a white, middle-class audience.
Is this about Hip Hop not traditionally being the main act, with a mix of concerns over race? I’m not going to be quick to scream racism, but I doubt they would have problems with Eminem.

C’mon you know they wouldnt have a problem with eminem . Shit eminem just performed at nelson mandela’s birthday party ! seems its so hard for hip-hop to get its respect even though were the most influential genre . Thats when j need to go over there and give a crazy performance and make sure they understand why he’s not opening up , he’s the headliner ! and give and accurate represention of what a hip-hop show is all about . Might make some new fans and change some of the doubters opinions .

“Racism is still alive, they just be concealing it”
April 16th, 2008 at 11:13 am
yes.. realtalkny is quick to pull the racism-card once again..
it’s DEFINATLY more of a HIPHOP THING than a RACISM THING…
you think they would have a problem with Alicia Keys?
you’re fucking rediculous as always.. always this racism-talk when a black performer gets dissed.. whatever..

It has nothing to do with race, so don’t even go there. It’s about the genre of music. It’s about introducing an act from a totally different music style. I’m sure they would have a problem with Eminem just as much as they would have a problem bringing in a country singer.

Hip hop is synonymous with black in most peoples eyes. Why do you think they make a big deal out of Eninem being a good rapper. Cause white boys not suppose to be good at it supposedly. I think RTNY made a good point and its not pulling the race card.

^^^^^no they dont when the news does shows like hip hop vs america or ant other hip hop bashing shows they always call tip drill or “hoes in different area codes” things way in the 90s but they never call eminems. carmelo anthony aint a rapper but they hate him just as much its A BLACK ISSUE

It’s not about race. It’s about the genre Hiphop. Most ppl who goes to Music Festivals in Europe are rock/Indie type of musicfans they are not there to listen to hiphop. Hiphop music don’t do well when it comes to festivals like this. You rarely see hiphop fans in the audience. To put Em to headline would be a mistake too but at the same time he’d do a lot better than jay-z. Em is big in Europe even among ppl who aren’t nesseceraly hiphop fans. Jay-Z is not.

Ma bad “necessarily” LOL

Fuck Gallagher and fuck that whole festival.
And RealTalk didn’t pull the race hence the line “I’m not going to be quick to scream racism”.
Yeah i’d be mad if they replaced my favorite hip-hop act with a shitty rock band but any fool can see these uppity british bitches wouldn’t haven’t have a problem with Eminem. Yet they they a problem with Jay because of what he represents.
Read between the lines nigga. Em can perform at Nelson Mandela’s birthday party, but jay can’t perform at some lil’ festival in britain.

Real Talk once again crying over Gay-Z and his stans crying about somethink Noell Gallagher said boo fucking hoo It’s nothink to do with colour of skin its to do with Hiphop but in saying that if they choose Gayne they wouldn’t have no problems because white people love him.

I’m from England and its not so much a racism thing its just that most people who like indie music are white kids usually middle class. These kids don’t get the hip hop culture cos they’ve never had to experience it so when its gets slammed in front of them you get stupid ass comments like what the geezer from oasis said.
Sad thing is Jay Z is one of the main guys in the game and the indie scence can’t show him love yet look how much love we give to guys like chris martin.
But fact is some people (especially white people, an unfortunately some of us black folks ahem uncle bob!!) just can’t handle a nigga being the main event, just look at your presendial race!!!

LMAO,CRY ME A RIVER NIGGA,EMIN3M>>>>JAY-Z
KEEP IT MOVING
April 16th, 2008 at 1:08 pm
So, it’s still stereotyping to an extent. Even if it’s about the Indie scene SOMEBODY wanted Jay there. Either the kids or the promoters wanted something different otherwise they wouldn’t have asked Jay. Jay’s an international star and is still going to rock Glastonbury. Those old indie heads are mad he’s taking their shine they’ve been used to for so long.

They are trying to blame Jay-Z for the low sales when he is the first rapper ever to headline an event like this which is normally headed by pop/rock acts. I hope Hov doesnt pull out he has alot of support over here in UK who want to see him perform the last time he toured over here all his shows were sold out.It is only bcus this event is normally a pop/rock event that people who like rap wouldnt go to this type of event anyway and on the other side bcus a rapper is the headliner rock/pop fans are also not buying tickets. That was always going to happen when they tryed something different the organizers they messed up they have promoted it totally in the wrong way bcus there are alot of other acts on the list to perform.
I have argued in favour of Hov and pointed out to the hip hop haters that he is big in America these pop/rock they want to see instead have not achieved half the things Hov has achieved 10 straight #1 albums to tie him with Elvis with only the Beatles doing better with a record like that he deserves to headline any event including Glastonbury.
