Real talk: After listening to it a couple times, i realize my initial “disappointment” and fear that this will not live up my (and all of our) expectations for the Carter III came from the fact that this joint sounded more like a mixtape joint. On a mixtape, this ish would be fire, no lie. And if its fire … its fire. It may not be your expected “studio” song, but how many times have we said that if Weezy were to release his mixtape shit, it would be a classic (or near-classic) album?
I look forward to the whole album. I hope he gets Kanye (or someone like that) to tighten the production of the whole joint so that the naysayers won’t have much to “yelp” about.
