Kanye West Sued Over Sample For, “Good Life”
Staggs says that West “didn’t obtain a license to use ‘Volume of Good Life’” for his tune, and points out that Kanye was “only at the age of 6 or 7 years of age [sic]” when his song was written. D’Mystro is also peeved because Kanye’s song “contains vulgar and offensive” images and “harms the reputation” of his much cleaner song. He wants 85% of all world sales of the proceeds from the music that uses his work.
Damn if this guy wins he will be getting a huge check.

He’s not going to win. They might settle out of court but he’s not going to win. Plus, Ye sampled PYT from MJ to make this beat. I hate hearing old heads who no one listen to trying to sue people who are hot today.

Trying to win a settlement in court is like selling something in an auction. People purposely start at a high # that they know is not realistic when in fact they would be happy with a much lower percentage than 85. So if Ye do settle for 20% or whatever then dude is rich. Plus a big # like 85% makes bigger news headlines.

u would think a nigga like kanye who makes all kinds of beats, would make sure he cleared the sample b4 using it. i remember him saying that the whole album was done they was waiting for paperwork from micheal jackson for the pyt sample for the good life. and back when he had “all falls down” it was featuring lauren hill first on mixtapes, then they couldnt clear laurens vocals for the album so the got sylenna johnson.
this nigga waited till the song ran its course and reaped its benefits from commercials and ads and whatever else b4 he sued. that song has been a hit since the album came out on 9/11, this is fuckin march? he gonna lose a big chunk of his settlement for sitting and waiting for sales to grow b4 he sued, smart but stupid

actually #15 kanye couldve had his label or team handle getting the samples cleared but it was either not completed, approved or over looked by delinquent staff, kanye’s team can easily be blamed. yall dont know shit bout the music industry.

doesnt matter before an artist goes forward with any project they should make sure everything is cleared especially when he or she will take the brunt of any following legal issues involving lawsuits!! either get clearence and be sure of it or seriously start making your own original music .. the sampling has gone crazy !! everyone wanna be fresh and original but stay digging for samples from older music???

yo, ye should actually be suing dood for making the record wack to begin with. Kabye made the shit hot. At the end of the day ye gon throw da niguh some change and be dunn widit. But with all that cheddar he need to buy his ass a keyboard player, i know a bunch of talented broke niguhs thatll work for him. Or he need to invest in some lessons himself.
