KRS One - Criminal Minded 2008(Prod. By DJ Premier)

KRS One will be spitting rhymes no matter how old he is, but unlike Rock N Roll fans, rap fans tend to ignore older acts.

The Smirnoff Signature Mix Series website is now live. Check it out at http://www.SmirnoffSignatureMixSeries.com

The Smirnoff Signature Mix Series is a campaign pairing three acclaimed rappers with some serious beatmakers to create new versions of iconic
hip-hop songs. Nationally renowned artists Common, Q-Tip, and KRS-One are joining musical forces with Just Blaze, Cool & Dre, and DJ Premier to remix Common’s “The Light,” A Tribe Called Quest’s “Midnight,” and Boogie Down Productions’ seminal “Criminal Minded.”

“I’m honored to have the opportunity to revisit one of my signature songs and give it a breath of fresh air,” said KRS-One. “I’m grateful to Smirnoff for providing the opportunity to work with such great talent on such a ground-breaking idea and recreate hip-hop songs.”

The site launches with KRS-One and DJ Premier’s “Criminal Minded ‘08 (Smirnoff Signature Mix).” The next of the series will feature Common and Just Blaze’s “The Light ‘08″ debuting on Tuesday, February 26th. And on the following Tuesday, March 4th, snatch up Q-Tip and Cool & Dre’s “Midnight ‘08.” Be sure to keep checking the site for exclusive videos and content.

yea your right we do tend to ignore the older mc’s

krs1- the same dude that said kanye aint hiphop?
the same dude that got the 2008 Self Construction ft the game, fatjoe, busta rhymes-they gonna tell me bout Self Construction or Self Destruction
Now he’s back wit Criminal Minded
    I’m confused

  4. j-nice Says:

we tend to ignore older people beacuse instead of giving props they get mad beacuse of a (nelly( or a (Kanye) sold more than they ever have or ever will dont nobody wanna hear how in your day you was hot blah blah just make good music

  5. Royalty! Says:

  7. SUBB-Z
    SUBB-Z Says:

MAN THE BIBLE SAYS RESPECT YOUR ELDERS AND YOUR DAYS WILL BE LONGER. I SEE THERE ARE MANY THAT WILL HAVE SHORTER LIVES FROM NO RESPECT OF THOSE WHO PAVED THE WAY FOR US TO EAT BETTER AS WE DO THESE DAYS.
KRS MAY NOT BE CORRECT ON ALL THAT HE SAYS AND NO ONE IS, BUT HE IS ONE OF THE GREATEST OF ALL TIME THAT KNOCKED DOORS DOWN FOR US TO COME THRU, AND THATS A HELL OF A LOT MORE THEN KANYE AND NELLY DID, NOT TO KNOCK THEM. THEY ARE BEING TREND SETTERS NOW, BUT STILL THE HARD PART WAS KNOCKING THOSE DOORS DOWN FOR THEM AND US.
BUT EVEN KANYE DID NOT REPLY TO KRS , WHY, BECAUSE HE RESPECT HIM THAT MUCH, AND BECAUSE KANYE SAID KRS IS ONE OF HIS IDOLS. NELLY REALLY DID NOT REPLY AT KRS AS HE HAS WITH CHINGY AND A FEW OTHER MCS, BECAUSE HE SAYS HE RESPECTS KRS.
SO, THERE YOU HAVE IT. WE GOT FAMILY MEMBERS LIKE OUR UNCLES/AUNTS/GRAND PARENTS THAT TALK ABOUT BACK IN THE DAY, AND EVEN THOUGH WE MAY DISAGREE ON SOME OF THEIR TEACHINGS, WE ALL SHOW THAT RESPECT TO THEM.
AND BECAUSE DUDE IS OLDER, DOES NOT MEAN WE REALLY IGNORE HIM, BECAUSE BEING THAT WE ARE TALKING ABOUT HIM IN THIS BLOG WITH COMMENTS MEANS, WE STILL SHOW HIS WORKS ATTENTION AND HIM AND HE IS AS MUCH CURRENT AS ANY OTHER MC.
HE IS SAYING ALOT MORE THEN SOME MC’S OUT NOW AND HIS WORK GOT CONTENT, NOT JUST BLABBING OUT WORDS TO MAKE A RING TONE SELL.

  8. bigpooh Says:

give props to #1,3 for the truth.

  9. bigpooh Says:

give props to #1,4,sorry about that

  10. werd Says:

    Classic Duo

  12. Philips Says:

His nose is spilling off his face LOLLLLL!!

  13. Clipz.
    Clipz. Says:

Yall niggas are ignorant as fuck

  14. Dominator Says:

the reason we dont like mc’s when they pass 35 is because they start sounding like they trying to write the rules of hiphop…truth is there should be no rules in hiphop. They think they own the game and dictate how it should be… this stuff sounds like some old 1980’s music i dont like it.

  15. Ahijah Says:

@ 1 why you think he got them niggas ? his trying to unity everybody New york especially need to unity Niggas in New Yorkers all hating on each other saying their the kings. Listen to the interview he said he felt 50’s album more and its more rap & we don’t see no flashing lights & whatever in the hood. I agree with him Kanye album was more for white people

  16. TiTi Says:

we tend to ignore older people beacuse instead of giving props they get mad beacuse of a (nelly( or a (Kanye) sold more than they ever have or ever will dont nobody wanna hear how in your day you was hot blah blah just make good music

But what does thgis have to do with album sales. Do you think Nelly will make it in the hall of fame just cuz he sold millions of records. Does that make him better and more skilled than Krs. If it wasn’t for KRS, Nelly wouldn’t even be able to sell all those records. KRS is the foundation for all of the success we have in hip hop today. Yeah Nelly sold more than Krs, but wat does that have to do with the fact that this song from KRS is fire. Better than damn near every song that Nelly has put out. I’m a 90’s baby myself. I aint taht old. I just speak the truth. I love Nelly. but he aint no where near KRS ’s level as far as skill and technique goes. And we need to learn to appreciate that as well as the ability to make ass shakin music. We don’t balacne anything no more. And that’s why hip hop is declining and under attack. Yeah. Hip hop is damn near dead. I said it and it’s cuz of the lack of balance going on in hip hop.

Yup! Folks is a shamed of they past or somethin cause they been clouded buy this commercial sh!t… and I don’t mean the music i mean commercialism period! Gotta be iced out killin … if you got lyrics you got lyrics but folks need to have a gimmick too?

I stand by older acts and they have been doin better in the recent history jus heard about the Brand Nubians doin a show w/ stezo and the skinny boyz!

  19. RealTalkCA Says:

    YO THIS JOINT IS CRAZY!!!

  20. izreal Says:

#14 you have to understand… the older heads created something from nothing, there was no blueprint.. so they are very sensitive about what they started.. it’s called pride…

it can come off mad preachy.. it’s like when parents see they kids doing stupid stuff they want to correct them.. but they forget they made the same mistakes…

if we really respected hip hop as an art form and not a hustle.. we could appreciate older MC’s the same way rock fans do their idols….

  21. DIRTY.DUNNZ
    DIRTY.DUNNZ Says:

    he did his thing…

  22. TAB A.K.A JESTER Says:

    # 15 don’t know what the fu*k he’s talking about…
that shit is hot, he did he’s thing BX.

  23. The County of Kings Says:

the same way parents realize kids need to make they own mistakes cuz thats how they grow and learn
krs should realize that rapper today need to grow and make they own mistakes too. and truth be told if krs had a old head critizing him back in the day he would diss him quickly

i aint disrespect krs by stating the obvious
but to #15 dont tell me he got these niggas cuz we need unity, these niggas just want that check, they kill on saturday night, then go to church on sunday. i dont wanna hear a bunch of hypocrites talkin that shit. krs has enough sense and understanding to know if he wanted that self destruction shit to really touch lives, he cant have rappers that stay promoting self destruction

  24. The County of Kings Says:

u tellin me kanye cant mention flashing lights, but other niggas from the hood can mention bentleys and diamonds in my teeth and models in my jacuzzi and flyin on g4’s. whats so hood bout that, flashing lights is as hiphop as any other hollywood expensive bullshit these rappers aspire to get. excuse me if i’m wrong but didnt 50cent just have to pay a settlement becuz of sum dickhead wit his flashin lights all in his damn face. niggas be using samples from all types of music

krs has used samples from fuckin willie nelson, hell the whole flow of that “your still tellin lies to meeeee, everybody talkin bout marly marl hot but they still tellin lies to meeee” he took that from a fuckin willie nelson song.
i respect the vets, i know my history, but he aint the almighty one that never steped outside that hiphop box either, that willie nelson non hiphop shit took his career to the next level. and “step into a world” shit wasnt hiphop to me either

  25. MAK A.K.A. FUCK B.E.T.
    MAK A.K.A. FUCK B.E.T. Says:

YO MY NIGGA KRIS KILLED THAT SHYT. OK THATS WAT IM TALKING AND DAT BEAT IS SO SICK.

  26. INTERNET RUINED THE WORLD! Says:

KRS ONE BEEN DOING THIS THING HERE SINCE MOST OF US BEEN BORN.RESPECT THE TRUE MC’S.PLUS HE SEEMS LIKE A COOL ASS DUDE!

  27. White boy Says:

krs one’s whole style is out dated…hiphop is only cool when the younger people do it.

i guess it ties into black history month,,,because thats what krs one is…history!

  28. 2cents Says:

    @ white boy… You lose!

    Now on some extra…

There’s simply too many hipocracies… if thats appropriate!
labels killed hip hop and we allowed the labeling because of what?

    Backpackers… Thugs… Pimps… Playas… hustlers… Conscious… ganster… Crunk… etc

One thing I’ve always noticed is as much as people scream they wanna be individuals they stay doin the norm, and hate on those who truly are individuals not seeing what they have in common rather focusing on the differences!!!

  29. whoa Says:

damn that nigga premo aint neva gonna fall off

  30. Lordhavemercy Says:

Relax folks. The older cats will get their props in the future. Hiphop music is a very young genre of music and that’s the reason why we don’t have that many older rappers. We are still not used to it. Hiphop is for all ages and it’s extremely ignorant to say Hiphop is only for young folks or some ish like that. These people really don’t know what they’re talking about.

It was the same thing with Rock music. Only teens and young people listened to rock at first. The older generation didn’t like it. All those middleaged rockfans that exist today are the same people that once were a bunch of teens listening to something that the older people thought was crap and wouldn’t last. LOL

We as hiphop fans are not there yet but a couple of decades from now you’ll see many older hiphop fans and also older rappers who will still rock the mic like RolLing Stones and many other rock artist do today.

  31. Ren_ Says:

Song is mad ill, period. KRS could lay waste to any of today’s ‘elite’.

This is what hip hop sounds like. Something being said.
