Real Talk With Mr. Platinum C.E.O of Iridium clothing

Iridium clothing was created by Mr. Platinum, after years of working in the clothing industry and traveling the world. He went from styling music artist to creating his own clothes. DATDREDD: HOW DID IRIDIUM GET STARTED?

Platinum: Well I use to work as a fashion consultant/fashion stylist for many music artist around the world. In places like Japan, USA, Canada, and Bahamas. I dressed a lot of people in other clothing labels. Every time I saw some gear that I styled clients in, I said to myself that would be platinum if they added this or took that off and made that a little longer etc etc. So I just decided that I could do my own thing and dress people in my own shit. Boom Iridium was born like the big bang theory.

DATDREDD: WHAT IS THE COST OF STARTING A CLOTHING LINE?

Platinum: Well a lot mentally, physically. A lot of money and time. Its a price that many people can’t afford.

DATDREDD: HOW DOES THE FASHION BUSINESS WORK AND DOES IT PAY OFF?

Platinum: Yeah it works, but it only really pays off financially if you produce products in the thousands. But you have to have money to produce in the thousands. Its pays of mentally everyday if you enjoy creating pieces that people enjoy wearing. So I do this for the love of creation vs the love of money.

DATDREDD: IF U SELL MILLS U GET MILLS

Platinum: Basically like any game, you have to spend money to make money. Do what you do for the love of it, not for the financial rewards.

DATDREDD: WHAT IS YOUR INSPIRATIONS FOR THOSE DESIGNS?

Platinum: Science is my inspiration. Iridium is all about thinking science. Do you know what Iridium is as far as scientifically ?

DATDREDD: BREAK IT DOWN FOR ME BRO.

Platinum: Iridium is an element on the periodic chart it is # 77 on the chart, right next to platinum # 78. Iridium basically is the purest form of platinum. Its found in the platinum group and when we say think science. We are asking people to think intelligently about the products and clothes they use or put on their bodies. Iridium is a smart, good choice and pure lol. We do shit out the box and that’s why all of the products we produce are incredible in our eyes and many people that fucks with us agree.

DATDREDD: DID U HAVE ANY FAVORITE BRANDS GROWING UP AND WHY?

Platinum: I’ve always been a fan of Ralph Lauren. I loved his shit when I was in high school. I really love his creativity, elegance and style. Then I kind of got into the whole street wear movement when I moved to Japan.

DATDREDD: HOW LONG WAS U IN JAPAN FOR?

Platinum: I did a semester in college, 3 months in China and 3 months in Japan and it changed my life.

DATDREDD: FOR THE GOOD?

Platinum: Yeah all good especially as far as a creative mind. Life inspires me on a daily basis. I love to live dread. I love to live life. I love to create and Japan helped bring that out in me. I’m very grateful for that blessing and wonderful experience.

DATDREDD: WHATS YOUR THOUGHTS ON URBAN FASHION RIGHT NOW?

Platinum: I thinks its a really cool place. I like what a lot of newer brands are doing, seems like the world is bursting with ideas. So I think its moving in a positive direction.

DATDREDD: WHAT ARE IRIDIUM PLANS FOR THE FUTURE?

Platinum: Create the dopiest shit ever. We feel like were only competing with ourselves because our perspective is different than other brands. So we always try to out do ourselves. We want to produce better products than we did last season never losing the passion to keep thinking science.
