A Look At Record Sales, Alicia Keys Is Killing It
I wasn’t even impressed by any of Alica Key’s singles but she has managed to sell 2.7 million records as of this week(Beyonce is at 3 mil, Akon 2.8). R&B has taken over with Mary J. Blige, Chris Brown, & Keyshia Cole going platinum(Rihanna almost there). Some good R&B artist however are struggling, like The Dream(150k), Trey Songz(220), and Mario(168k).
As far as rap goes, Jigga is almost platinum, Kanye is almost 2x plat, 50 Cent is at 1.2 mil, Soulja Boy has sold over 700k, Common went gold, Timbaland is plat, Plies is over 400k, Lupe & Bow Wow & Omarion are over 250k.

i like the fact that hiphop music is starting to look like sports
u got people who make music just for the sole reason of money, thats it. they dont care about the craft, the lives they touch, the influence they have, all they care about is the money. and u can hear it in the music
then u got the ones that are dedicated to the craft, are happy to do this for a living, who dont let record sales make or break them as long as they get they message across or they voices heard.
the people in sports that play just for the money, never win. but those who live, breathe the game in they blood u see it on the court/field. those the ones the fans support. because we watch/listen to it becuz we have that same love for the craft. so if u real wit us, u will be rewarded

i told ppl alicia had the album of the year in my opinon…that was the 1st cd i listen to back to back w/out skippin a track (i skippd the no 1 track)but then again i listin to r&b over rap now cuz…yea only rappers i listen to is kanye pharrell lupe hov (here and there) and joe buddens…lupe’s album is that dope stupid crack fresh fly im wating for that N.E.R.D. album

chris browns album was great and rihannas album was pretty good as well the dream is a really good songwriter which is why his Cd is great …. I personally think it was a bad move for Jayz to pull his entire album off itunes he could have made so people could only buy the album instead of any song they choose I have yet to buy AKs album i need to hear one more single first and Omarion should have known that he’s a better artist by himself because faceoff was terrible

alicia is killin it big time. her album sales are with or surpassing albums that have been out for more than a year. her album was released the second week of november and she’s already coming up on 3 million. she proves right there that when the music is good, people will go cop it. plus she is only 2 singles in. the right 3rd single could get her to 4 mil and beyond! hells yes i stan for alicia keys! that girl is the truth!

Alicia is killing it and well deserved a totally solid album from 1-14! She hasn’t dropped below the top 3 since she released her CD. If she releases Lesson Learned next which will be a crossover hit she will be 4x in the US by the end of spring. R&B is back even Jaheim has sold more than Lupe and jaheim gets almost no promo. Mary doing it big off of a single that hasn’t even cracked the top 10 when she releases another single and pushes it she’ll continue to sell. I like AmericanGangster but Jigga man just isn’t the man anymore. He is not guaranteed to sell anymore. Some people are pissed at his constant marketing plans. 1. I am retiring so you have to go and buy my CD 2. I am back to save hip hop because I love it (while releasing kingdom come which hard core jigga fans didn’t really enjoy) 3. I am inspired by this movie so here I go again. All the while his artist aren’t doing a thing. If you ask me I am not all that impressed with Kanye. I mean he came out just shy of plat and after 18 weeks he has yet to be double plat. That was another marketing thing. Some people bought graduation just so 50 wouldn’t be #1. 50’s sales are actually a closer reflection of the people who appreciate his music while kanye’s sales are mainly the reflection of a very good marketing plan. Don’t get me wrong I like graduation, but his sales didn’t even boost during the holiday season.

Alicia- Takes her time and comes through big “No One” her biggerst single yet and thats saying a lot.
Mary- Always had excellent music but with “The Breaktrhough ” she started gaining commercial sucess and it reflects in her sales.
Chris Brown - He actually suffers beacuse the majority of his fans are not accustomed to buing CDs
50 Cent- Excellent songwriter. Just set the bar too high for himself
Keyshia Cole - First album was stronger but commercial appeal is starting to grow
The Dream - Probably a better writer than performer.
Trey SongZ - Similar to Lloyd but has a much more mature sound. Should of did more with the sucess of ” Cant Help but Wait”
Mario- Label botched this one. I think he had one the best songs of the year with” Crying Ou for Me”.
Jigga-He’s in a class by himself. Has the freedom creatively to do whatever he wants and still put out classic . The number of sells for “American Ganster” doesnt reflect how GREAT an album it was. Sidebar: How can anyone spit to ” Beach Chair”?still cant get that.

If people actually listen to music isntead of being lazy and simply accepting what the radio throws at you then I think people would feel different!
R&B as far as whats on the radio seems like a better deal BUT there is still EXTREMELY good hip hop IN EVERY REGION!

I like Alicia Keys but I have always said her latest album lacks any true R&B feeling like her first 2. (Especially #2 “The Diary”) Just my opinion but I thought it was “HIGHLY OVERRATED!!” Sounded like a rush job to me. She ain’t from the hood so how would she relate,if she is she obviously ain’t no thug.
