The Smoking Section Interviews Joe Budden
TSS: You said you don’t look to hip-hop for inspiration. Is anything marginally interesting? Does it bore you?
JB: It’s boring. With the exception of Kanye West, Lil Wayne…there’s a few people that manage to not bore me when I hear them but aside from those two and the typical greats like Eminem, Jay, Nas…it doesn’t do anything for me.
TSS: What do you think the next elite class of legendary rappers will sound like?
JB: Hmm…I could be the asshole and say they’ll sound like me.

Can Joe Budden be mentioned in the same breath as legendary rappers?

Now that I got that out the way. Joe Budden is wack. I can’t even name any of his songs. He would have to come out with some fire shit for the rest of his career for him to even be considered anywhere close to a legend. Right now he aint even good.

Why are all the rappers that had a “mini” hit in the early 2000’s so angry? If you didnt sell when you first came out when EVERYONE sold, what makes you think that people care about you now

Jo Budden is a studio rapper, I have seen him live loads of times and he sounds like a sqeaky teenager who keeps losing his breath.

Pretty decent interview. However Joe you should be careful of falling for the trap questions that the media throws at you. You can be honest without talkin reckless and shit. You could’ve said that Jay has a lot of albums and when you make that many albums there are some that are bound to be better than others for whatever reason. That’s just the way of the game period.
On a side note this interview reminded me that MCs ain’t always necessarily the biggest or most open-minded fans of hip hop. It’s something about when you get into the game you tend to tune out a lot of artist’s material due to your lack of time, jealousy, personal reasons or just plain trying not to sound like the next man. Artists also tend to act like they’re too good to pay attention to acts that have less of a profile than themselves.
Some advice to Joe Budden:
Next time spin those questions about other artists into something that talks about your upcoming projects/songs, business ventures etc… You don’t wanna be known as the guy that talks greasy about everybody, just as the guys that made this song or that song. AND COME WITH SOME ORIGINAL BEATS FOR A CHANGE!
My two cents.

First of all who is Joe Budden to be talking bad about Hip-Hop? Hip-Hop bores you? Hip-Hop ain’t doin’ it for you? That’s a damn shame cause’ you suppose to be a Hip-Hop artist, and if Hip-Hop is boring, that’s cause’ you’re boring. That’s cause’ you haven’t dropped a single since 2005 and most people don’t even know about. And secondly you have no right to bash Jay-Z. I don’t know where you found this mind set that you can be said in the same sentence as Jay-Z. And I know that this is not about Joe Budden vs. Jay-Z, but for like a week now lil’ Joey has been pissing me off.
Now if you would go out and ask random people to name you their favorite Jay-Z song, chances are they’ll say: Hard knock life, Encore, Dead President II, Big Pimpin’ … the list goes on. Then ask the very same people to name you 5 “good” Joe Budden songs the most you’ll hear is prob. 3. So for him to think that being “him” is a characteristic of being a “legendary rapper”, son you need to calm all that down.
And I understand that going at Jay-Z is pretty smart right now, cause’ a lot of people are going at him. But son, pick your battles, cause’ there are a lot more Jay-Z fans then there are Joe Budden’s. But I understand you, your CD came out, your on a high, I get it. Everyone’s been through it, but it’s like…: say you play a ball game and you get 48 point that game, in NO WAY does that give you the right to bash Michael Jordan.
First he insults the king, then he insults Hip-Hop, what’s next … him self, idleast if he starts to insult him self it will make sense. From “Pump It Up”, to saying he’s a legendary rapper. That’s like Sisqo saying he’s a legendary signer.
Sorry I had to get that off my chest.
