The Smoking Section Interviews Joe Budden

TSS: You said you don’t look to hip-hop for inspiration. Is anything marginally interesting? Does it bore you?

JB: It’s boring. With the exception of Kanye West, Lil Wayne…there’s a few people that manage to not bore me when I hear them but aside from those two and the typical greats like Eminem, Jay, Nas…it doesn’t do anything for me.

TSS: What do you think the next elite class of legendary rappers will sound like?

JB: Hmm…I could be the asshole and say they’ll sound like me.

Full Interview @ The Smoking Section

Can Joe Budden be mentioned in the same breath as legendary rappers?

Now that I got that out the way. Joe Budden is wack. I can’t even name any of his songs. He would have to come out with some fire shit for the rest of his career for him to even be considered anywhere close to a legend. Right now he aint even good.

Why are all the rappers that had a “mini” hit in the early 2000’s so angry? If you didnt sell when you first came out when EVERYONE sold, what makes you think that people care about you now

Jo Budden is a studio rapper, I have seen him live loads of times and he sounds like a sqeaky teenager who keeps losing his breath.

Pretty decent interview. However Joe you should be careful of falling for the trap questions that the media throws at you. You can be honest without talkin reckless and shit. You could’ve said that Jay has a lot of albums and when you make that many albums there are some that are bound to be better than others for whatever reason. That’s just the way of the game period.

On a side note this interview reminded me that MCs ain’t always necessarily the biggest or most open-minded fans of hip hop. It’s something about when you get into the game you tend to tune out a lot of artist’s material due to your lack of time, jealousy, personal reasons or just plain trying not to sound like the next man. Artists also tend to act like they’re too good to pay attention to acts that have less of a profile than themselves.

Some advice to Joe Budden:

Next time spin those questions about other artists into something that talks about your upcoming projects/songs, business ventures etc… You don’t wanna be known as the guy that talks greasy about everybody, just as the guys that made this song or that song. AND COME WITH SOME ORIGINAL BEATS FOR A CHANGE!

My two cents.

First of all who is Joe Budden to be talking bad about Hip-Hop? Hip-Hop bores you? Hip-Hop ain’t doin’ it for you? That’s a damn shame cause’ you suppose to be a Hip-Hop artist, and if Hip-Hop is boring, that’s cause’ you’re boring. That’s cause’ you haven’t dropped a single since 2005 and most people don’t even know about. And secondly you have no right to bash Jay-Z. I don’t know where you found this mind set that you can be said in the same sentence as Jay-Z. And I know that this is not about Joe Budden vs. Jay-Z, but for like a week now lil’ Joey has been pissing me off.
Now if you would go out and ask random people to name you their favorite Jay-Z song, chances are they’ll say: Hard knock life, Encore, Dead President II, Big Pimpin’ … the list goes on. Then ask the very same people to name you 5 “good” Joe Budden songs the most you’ll hear is prob. 3. So for him to think that being “him” is a characteristic of being a “legendary rapper”, son you need to calm all that down.
And I understand that going at Jay-Z is pretty smart right now, cause’ a lot of people are going at him. But son, pick your battles, cause’ there are a lot more Jay-Z fans then there are Joe Budden’s. But I understand you, your CD came out, your on a high, I get it. Everyone’s been through it, but it’s like…: say you play a ball game and you get 48 point that game, in NO WAY does that give you the right to bash Michael Jordan.
First he insults the king, then he insults Hip-Hop, what’s next … him self, idleast if he starts to insult him self it will make sense. From “Pump It Up”, to saying he’s a legendary rapper. That’s like Sisqo saying he’s a legendary signer.
Sorry I had to get that off my chest.

That actually was a surprisingly good interview. Joe is a alright dude. I’m kinda shocked he said he still listens to Jay. Kinda confusing. But hey, I hate Kobe, but he’s always fun to watch play.

The King wrote on January 30th, 2008 at 6:25 pm

talk about it now
hope u get it later

nobody wants to accomplish shit before they talk shit. joe i got your first album and i will not get your second. u talkin all that shit bout jayz then u still respect him. u shouldnt diss those who u look up to, only makes u look stupid. and as far as dissin jayz to get attention, havent u learned from the previos people dissing jayz, it gets u nowhere, either he ignores you or he smashing u come album time.
he’d be better off goin at 50 cuz atleast 50 will holla back and it will be a back and forth and big news. and to think he was insulted that ransom was dissin him, then he disses hov. monkey see monkey do

Can Joe Budden be mentioned in the same breath as legendary rappers? For me he can even If he quit tommorow he would but for other people he will always be known as the “Pump it up kid” I dunno If he will ever lose that tag but nobody can deny his talent the whole Mood Muzik series are great especially the first one & he lyrically destroyed The Game & G-unit. But he needs albums back to back and not just mixtape same way for Papoose they can spit crack on mixtapes but we need albums from them cause Hip Hop is sucking with all the garbage that bein out out lately.

All of yall niggaz is fuckin haters who just dont listen to music nor listen to lyrics and with that being said everyone who has tried to shyt on joey must like that snap and clap bullshyt from the south that has no meaning or soul to it thats just plain bullshyt that shouldn’t even exsist and yall realli havent listen to any other songs besides pump it up and clubbin which were probably his two worst songs because if you listen to any mood muzik you will see that he’s the truth and he cant put out mad albums like jay nas and em because hes not been givin the chance this niggaz mixtapes are better than damn near everyones albums and his lyrics are up there with em jay and nas yall just never heard them cuz yall are deaf to muzik and only listen to singles from albums and yall stay talkin about you from the street well if you are GET A FUCKIN MIXTAPE ANY MOOD MUZIK HELL MOOD MUZIK 3 IT JUST CAME OUT hes the most current event rapper there is you can name nobody that talks more about current events then he does, yea i was a hater of joe before too but my boy put my on to mood muzik 2 and i heard dumb out, 3 sides to a story and world takeover and i was a fan because i listen to the fuckin lyrics not just being bias and hate on him just because hes not out there like yall muthafuckas do dont be a hater on him before you listen to him and not just that one album hes had listen to the mixtapes hes the truth and dnt come at me cuz im speakin the truth…………but watch theres gonna be haters any………

If nobody has listened to Mood Muzik they shouldn’t comment, if you are basing this interview solely off of Pump it Up and fire you’re wrong…Mood Muzik 3 has styled on any of the stuff Jay-Z, Nas, or Eminem has put out recently

24.
Drew Bellz wrote on January 31st, 2008 at 2:02 am

Thx Anon ur rite, but anyway i also have to say to all of yall who keeps talkin about him needin to put out an album and how he shouldnt be meantioned in the same name as jay z and he has a better chance going at 50. look first off either you just blind to the rap world or you just didnt know but when joey was under def jam he tried to push his album out but they kept pushin it back and then on top of that jay became the president of def jam so for him to come out with an album on def jam was close to none, and his name not being meantioned in the same sentence as jay you must be outta ya fukin mindz cuz in the pump it up remix in which jay choose to get on and diss joe on shows that he saw joe as a threat and and yes jay did go in on joey but he came rite back at him and held his ground and showed jay that he wasnt gonna jus get pushed around cuz he jay z and he WAS “suppose” to be feared. and to say he is better off goin at 50 thats how i know you dont listen to joe and is jus judgin him on that one ass song because he went at 50 and the whole g unit including game and he literally destoryed them just lik jadakiss did but for some odd reason everytime when g unit no matter who it is they battle they always come out on top whether they win or lose i really dnt get it but thats another story anyway back to joe his lyrical ability is impecable and his word play is remarkable he talks about real shit you can relate to not that bullshyt yea i once lived in a hood and sold weight and hustled that jay, 50 and the rest of them artist is still talkin about he talks about real shit like virginia tech, katrina, sean bell, don imus, kramer, shit that happens and effects everybodys life. and idk about yall but if i fell i would land on a bunch of debts or cement pavement not money so i cant relate to that. and all of yall who like to trash my son about him talkin all reckless well i jus wanna inform you…………….HE’S NOT!!! because what hes saying is the truth the next generation should sound like him smart, witty, lyrical, well rounded, talented flow wise, artistic, etc. hell i would be bored too if i had to sit there and listen to garbage like that snap crackle and pop shyt. shyt his next best move is to get signed to aftermath and sit down with dre and em and talk about how they could put him out there and push his album so it could sell and so he can be known to all those haters out there that hes a force to be reckoned with and not jus a small fry but destructions main course (i got an appetite for destruction and your a small fry). but anyway i had to vent that alil bit becuz i hate readin all these hatin ass comments about my son and niggaz havent even heard anything from him thats lik sayin yea i heard big pimpin and say jay z is the best rapper alive…NO!!! you have to listent to way more then just one fukin song you have to go through there career of songs from mixtapes to albums and listen to them and if you aint got the patience or time to do that then dont judge what you cant do and to say how can you respect, joey respects him he doesnt look up to him get taht straight, someone you dont like is stupid and a perfect example is Darius Sinclair #17 yeah you may not like someone but you gotta give credit where credit is due but some people dont understand that and act like dik heads…so as in the words of joey…..wen the new generation thinks about jordan/all they can remember is when iverson crossed’em/take off the blazer loosen up the tie/nigga fell in love superman DIED!!!/you better learn to cover ya ears when them toys pop/i hate ya last single and none of ya boyz roc……….MOOD MUZIK 3 IS THE TRUTH!!!
