Cloverfield Lives Up To The Hype

After seeing the trailer I was set on seeing this movie in the theaters. Then I had some doubt after seeing how a trailer can make a horrible movie look good(I Am Legend). I was willing to take my chances on this one. Watching the movie is like being on a roller coaster ride. As you can see from the trailer, you see all of the catastrophic events taking place in NY from the viewpoint of a camcorder. Some people complained of motion sickness, but I had no problems keeping with the action. The film does a great job of making you feel like you are one of the civilians running for you life. The film doesn’t try to over explain things and focuses on the characters trying to survive. Overall I feel this is a great flick and I anticipate part 2.

Check below if you already saw the movie and care to discuss it…

SPOILERS BELOW

Whats good people, I thought the movie was hot. People complained of it not being realistic, well no way the camera battery would last that long, they wouldn’t have mad it that far on the train tracks and how in the hell was that sexy lady doing all that running in heels? I don’t think any of those things took away from the movie. I feel the ending was appropriate and the fact they didn’t give a background story on the monsters are some explanation kept the story in line. The point of the movie is to put yourself in there shoes and not know everything. Thoughts on the movie?

and oh yea the monsters could of been better…

After Cloverfield’s, erm, monstrous opening weekend in the States ($40m to date), you can bet the bean-counters at Paramount are already thinking about sequels.

And it seems that the film’s director Matt Reeves is up for the idea, if his comments in an interview with the good people at ComingSoon.net are anything to go by. Reeves tells the site that we might get another look at the fictional events of 1-18-08 from a different perspective.

“There’s a moment on the Brooklyn Bridge, and there was a guy filming something on the side of the bridge, and Hud sees him filming… In my mind that was two movies intersecting for a brief moment,” Reeves tells the site.

“That idea sort of tickled me,” he adds. “If the movie does well and we find a compelling reason to do so then it would be fun to do a sequel.”

So another film following the same event from a different point of view? Interesting or just repetitive? And for those who’ve seen the film, Reeves drops that there’s a “fun thing” in the final Coney Island sequence. Post your thoughts in the comments!
