Have Jay-Z & Kanye West Lost Touch With The Streets?
Rap superstars KANYE WEST and JAY-Z have lost touch with their original fanbase, according to WU-TANG clan star RAEKWON. Raekwon claims they are missing out on a whole generation of hip-hop enthusiasts, because their wealth and success has alienated them from ordinary people.
He says, “A lot of street people don’t put stock in them anymore because they aren’t doing enough to excite anyone. (They should) Come back to the hood and drop $100,000.”
When your famous and worth millions it is pretty hard not to be alienated from ordinary people. If Jay-Z comes back trying to act hood it will be an act, he busy vacationing on islands, that phase of life is over. American Gangster was an album of him reminiscing on his past, but he isn’t trying to portray himself in that light now. I think black people need role models that came from the hood and moved on to bigger and better.
The bottom line is every grows, your favorite rapper won’t be the same as he was years ago. Fans can either accept the growth and understand that is the point of life or move on to a new artist.

Why should Jay z go back to the street. all the rappers who try to stay in the street end up in jail/prison. do this nigga think Jay Z is running the welfare dept. its funny how niggas always want black ppl to give them money. niggas love too much hand out. As Jay Z said he didn’t work this hard to stay in the hood. the only ppl in the hod is the one who can’t leave. I’m tired of these niggas try to portray the hood as a decent place to live.

It’s dumb negros like Raekwon that are keeping us back. Instead of him focusing on making good music, he’s worrying about other people. Anyway, why should he care what Jay and Kanye are doing and how they are poytrayed in the “hood”. Let’s be honest, the hood don’t buy music, they bootleg it ad that’s with whom you want to place your faith. Grow up and make a difference and stop the crabs in the barrel mentality.

honestly that is what is the problem. This way of thinking is just what keeps people in the hood. “you move out the hood and you’re soft…you ain’t down no more.” It reaches a point when you just want more for yourself and want better and those that arn’t able to achieve that or see that think this way. I’m proud of Kanye and Jay for growing up. If you look at Jay he speaks really proper and not all ghetto and loud that makes people think he’s just some lowlife. I think this is what has contributed to his success and what will continue to do so.

For once i agree with you realtalk. I’m embarrased by Raekwon’s statements. Sometime he and other other wu tang memebers really are the epitdome of ignorance. I grew up in far rockaway, queens and as a young black female there is nothing more postive and inspiring for us as a community then to see former residents become “equals” in society. I;m am proud of Jay, Kanye, 50, Diddy..all them guys. Leaving the neighbourhood is an emotional step; I left for the greener pastures of Jamaica Estates not to long ago and I understand all the envy and jealous remarks that come behind a move of that significance. These rappers haven’t left the hood; the hood has left them.
