Hip Hop Sales For Last Week
Alicia Keys keeps moving units with a little under 300k sold. Chris Brown moves a couple hundred more units than Bow Wow & Omarion’s Faceoff with 108k. Birdman sells 86k, Mario 76k, Wu-Tang 67k & Beanie Sigel sells 48k. Last week saw a lot of sales but only one Hip Hop/R&B album made the top ten, which was Alicia Keys coming in at number 1.
There are reports Lupe Fiasco will move around 160k in his first week. How much records have to be sold in the first week in order to be considered a success?

Forget about 1st week sales. it’s the status the album reaches gold, platinum, diamond, ect. in a certain amount of time that determines the success of an album imo.

I think the RIAA has to change the GOLD and PLATNIUM rating on albums nowadays with all the mp3s and music being downloaded. It is really ruining the sales of artist. I think 200K-300K is a success album in todays standards.
The artist has to be multi-talented these days to make more money. They have to go on tours and all that jazz to really make their money.

i don’t know how many albums sold, because it seems like i can go to the store and buy the album..but like 80 other MF’s got the album too off the internet…and we all love it just the same…so that’s 1 counted by billboard and 80 counted by the bootlegging federation of america? You can’t really measure how good the album is doing by sales….

Just get the music and listen to it…They need to quit that Platinum bullshit…tht doesn’t make an album…I like the Freeway’s new Album but just because its not doing well people might think its not a good album…By the way go get the the Freeway Album Free at Last…especialy if you are a 2001/2002/2003 rocafella fan….And number 3 Fuck u…Lupe is sick!!!

Ummmmmmmmmmmm, have ya’ll niggas look @ weekly sales in Rap/RnB in the last past year or so. 200-300k sales is beyond success, THAT’S HUGE IN 2DAY’S MARKET.
Like #1(wow) said, 100 is doin’ good right now. On average rappers is sellin’ around 60K they’re first week and airbody keep screamin’ FLOP, but in reality EVERYBODY IS. If your name ain’t JayZ, 50 Cent, Kanye, Common, UGK, T.I., Young Buck, Fabolous, and yes Soulja Boy, YOU DIDN’T SELL 100 YA 1ST WEEKEND!
RnB sales more than rap on a consistant basis as Chris Brown, T-Pain, Alicia Keys, Mary J. Blige (u know she gone sell) as recent history has shown us.

If you sell over 200k ya first week its a success. I say that cause album leaks are normally a week or two before your big tuesday so by then people have heard your shit and made up they mind if its hot enough to support or not. If you can get 200,000 people in this country to get off they lazy ass and go spend $13 on your shit after most of them have it/have heard it then its a success.

It’s not really record sales that determine if a album is great its the substance. Mad classic albums were slept on by the mainstream i.e Reasonable Doubt etc. It’s cool to sell records but you gotta have ya business and paperwork right to maximize profit off album sales. Maaaan….Birdman will easily sell more than The Wu….the average person buying music these days is under 20 years old (they have no clue about The Wu!!). They know who Birdman is because of Lil’ Wayne.
