I feel that Jay-Z is not totally to blame for the success or failure of any individual artists album sales. People tend to give him the blame but don’t wanna give him the credit. The bottom line is album sales aren’t no where near what they used to be and no amount of promotion can change that. Thats not Jay-Z’s fault. The artist’s themselves have to be also held accountable for their projects. Get on your own grind and promote yourself if you feel the label isn’t. Also some of these artists have to be honest with themselves in terms of dropping albums and the timing of dropping albums. As much as we love LL Cool J in the Hip Hop community how many people honestly are sitting around saying “damn I can’t wait for that new LL album”???…..In all honesty who really was checking for a Beanie Sigel or Freeway album at this time of the year????….Well I could go on and on but Jigga did his thing while he had the position and now that he’s not the President of def Jam anymore I wonder who the artists are gonna blame now when their albums brick in sales

nice vid, but the reasoning is backwards;

why does jay get the credit for some artists selling a lot and why does he get the blame for others flopping?

give credit and blame where it’s due, marketing can only do so much, ppl are buying what’s hot!

all these old rappers try to advance it’s all over now take it like a man

no.3(payso)hit the nail on the head! im gonna come straight out with it beanie seigal, tru life, ll cool j, fabolous to some extent, dmx, uncle murda are all fuckin economical liabilities/ abondoned shops in the worst part of the neighbourhood. Def jam is a business im no business man but im smart from enough to back a cash cow i.e. neyo, rihanna, jeezy, jay z himself, kanye.Regardless of the amount of promotion the former set of artists do not move units, dmx for example, every time this dude put out an album he got money issues and even after the biggest resolves, experience and promo money rihanna mugged him in sales during a time where selling records is damn near impossible.

the only exception to this is joe budden, although not comin out in 04 seems like a blessing in disguise cos’ hes gettin a lot of support from any and every blog spot.

In my opinion jay z= mo money!

Dominator wrote on December 29th, 2007 at 8:27 am

i agree #6, people are buying whats hot, no amount of marketing dollars can make people buy what they don’t like.

thats why rhianna, neyo, fabolous, nas, young jeezy, kanye and a few others did so well…its a new generation on defjam baby.

Redman is the only person that made sense in that video.. LL needs to fall back. He’s crazy for thinking that if Simmons was still doing it he would’ve got more promotion and sold more.. that shit would not have happened, LL faded a minute ago.. he was selling when people were actually buying records.. thats his beef, he can’t appeal to the piece of the public that still go out and buy records. Jay promoted those who he knew had the general public by the balls and would be able to sell well, smart move in my opinion.. Beans, Budden, LL.. those guys need to do more for themselves if they wanna be as successful as they obviously believe they should be, point blank..

However, I still think an artist should not be the president of a label, that paved the way for all these dudes pointing blame

smoothsilky4 wrote on December 29th, 2007 at 9:35 am

Redman, Method Man, Joe Buddens, and a couple other artist didn’t move units during the last couple of years that Lyor Cohen was president of Def Jam. Like Jay-Z stated a while ago, they would rather take orders from a white man. Now that Jay-Z is done, I bet they will not sell any units no matter who is the president. If you people are checkin for you, there is no choice but for you to move units. A company is not going to break the bank on artist who do not make them money. Kayne, Jeezy, Ludicris, and other relevent artist are not complaining.

Juelz went platnuim realtlak dont fuck up wit my dipset boys it took him like 4 months to do it but he went plat.

LL last album went gold and if he wanted it to do more he shoul ve never had all those damn features on one album

Sigel gotta comeback wit that gutta music.I agree he aint get no promo only one video but he got work his main fan base the streets he should ve did a mixtape or smack dvd takeover or some shit

Buddens i feel for him.I think he is a great talent but i really dont see him selling many records if he was too put out a album. It would be nice to see an album. But he proably wont sell or maybe he can be like common and have a good fanbase.Who knows…

redman is tuff cuz he make good music but its like niggas aint buying shit no more. Its sad cuz people would rather buy soulja boy then redman.I agree most of the albums these niggas put out now a days is garbage but i thought that redman album was solid

The main point is the core fanbases of most of these artist like beanie and free was the hood. And niggas jus aint buying albums now a days.
its real sad if you think about it

The best way to judge Jay Z is to compare him with what other presidents of other labels did too. For example , lets compare Jay’s last three years to Diddy’s , Liles , JD , Jimmy , 50 etc. If none of those execs accouplished what Jigga did last three years then i rest my case. By the way i go to York University and academically we call that the GPA scale

SMH wrote on December 29th, 2007 at 11:20 am

If you notice all the nigga’s that are complaining had there run 5 years ago. Budden’s had the biggest hit of his career with “Pump” and if that didn’t get him on, nothing will. These nigga’s need to realize that it has nothing to do with Jay - the public doesn’t buy HARD CORE/MIXTAPE type of rap. THAT’S THE ONLY REASON KANYE’S AS BIG AS HE IS - HE’S POP RAP = PAP.

If you notice, NAS didn’t complain about DEF JAM’s promotion, he complained about HIP HOP IS DEAD. He’s a smart dude that knows it has nothing to do with PROMOTION. IT HAS EVERYTHING TO DO WITH MARKETABLE RAP.

Good music choices, but you can delete the rest of the video and keep what REDMAN said only.

I GIVE JAY A 10 FOR DEALING WITH THE BULLSHIT WHILE L.A. WAS RUNNING AROUND MAKING ILLEGITIMATE KIDS AND SMOKIN’ CIGARS.

Oh F@ck That!!! wrote on December 29th, 2007 at 2:07 pm

Jay-Z is not perfect. No one is. Def Jam is also to blame to for giving him this opportunity pre-maturely. Def Jam is WAAAYY different than the Roc. There were already established artists on it that he had been in DIRECT competition with before he took office. But I was under the impression that he was aware of that and hence retired so that it would be a more level playing field.

Looking at it now, the only thing I can say is IT WAS A HUUUUUGE conflict of interest for him to keep rapping after taking office….. A HUUUGE one and for him to be so smart, why didn’t he consider that further than he did for the sake of his image only though. I don’t have a problem with him being an artist(eventhough I felt like I had heard American Gangster 4 times already because he raps are so fucking redundant now, beats are HOT though).

What I mean by that is, he should have looked at the poor success of the rest of te artists FOR WHATEVER REASON they were not successful(not just Jay to blame by far) and he should have taken a step back and thought about how it was going to look to the artists, their fans etc cuz image is VERY important in this industry, everyone knows that. I mean, he only signed a 3 year contract, he could wait until it expired to go back to the studio? Did we really need Kingdom Come SO BAD that is was necessary for him to spend 18.5 mill on marketing alone? I think not. He WAAAY over estimated his potential success cuz he lost a lot of fans between Blueprint 2 and The Black Album.

I think he was ill prepared. I remember reading an article in XXL I believe like 6 months after he took office and the writter of the article made it CLEAR that he didn’t have enough experience because he flew to London or Paris and he wwas ill equiped for a presentation. EVERYONE that he had to present, already knew the info he was about to present and he was left to be very embarraced as anyone would be. His ass was flapping in the wind. He offered them NO NEW INFO or projections and the meeting was in vain and money was wasted.

As far as his main successes,

Jeezy - Already had a hit single when he was signed to Def Jam and wasn’t he signed to Bad Boy South when he signed as a solo artist to Def Jam. He was already developed talent. He just needed the right setting to succeed which Def Jam provided. He was well known in the south.

Rick Ross-Already known in the industry as a ghostwritter.

Luda-Has ALWAYS been successful, alwayz been a hustler. He was a popular DJ (Chris lova lova) before he was signed in 2000,not by Jay. He has his own successful lable and is worth a reported 250 mil of his own so…..

Neyo-Had HITS as a writter(Mario’s BIGGEST hit, Marquez Houston etc) AND he is a grown man. He was already polished and developed. He has been around for a while.

Criset Michelle-NOPE!!!!

Rihanna is really his only REAL success to me but he should be breakin Beyonce and Mathiew Knowles off points off of her album and a percentage of her overall sales cuz it is OBVIOUS he built her image off of Miss Beyonce’s so shamelessly.

But, to be fair, as far as marketing and promotion go in this current climate,I will agree with Jay-Z, things have changed a LOT since LL last had a huge record (Mr Smith). The artists have to hustle HARDER and LL is used to being catered to. He’s very spoiled and I am tired of hearing him. He should be the CEO of his own lable by now, since he “knows” so much. At first I listened to him, and he had some good points, now he’s just whining and looking for someone to blame.

You have to go out and get your OWN corporate sponsors and who’s in a better position to get TOP sponsors than LL? He has a better public image than Jay-Z as far as being a household name. And it’s almost a MUST to be an international star by now. Look how hard Beyonce has had to work to keep her dream alive. Talent and looks alone just don’t cut it anymore. She hasn’t taken a break since 2001-02 poor girl.

And then, back then (80’s to mid 90’s), people were relying more on vidoes and expensive ones at that. And for new artists, they would put them through artist development camps automatically without a thought. Now, they can’t afford it (’they’ being MOST lables all over the world). The artist has to spend more personal money to get there, just like the signed artists have to go out and get corporate sponsors to be successful in todays climate of the industry.

When Jay first took office, I remember him making that point in XXL mag, the one where the whole camp was on the cover including Tierror Marie and Fox Bama. In his own way, think he was sending out a warning shot to the rest of the industry and label with that article. Things have changed DRASTICALLY and artist like LL should already understand that and should have been prepared.

Red, Meth and Joe Buddens need to STFU!!!! And I used to LOVE Meth, but before Jay came, he wasn’t selling. That Tical 2000 BULLSHIT was just that and I have never bought a Redman album in my life although he is good.

Beans,Freeway and Memphis should have seen the light earlier on in their careers and should have learn to diversify their talent(acting, ventures, clothing lines etc). But I think their chances to shine big are OVER.

Well, I think Memph could still have a slight chance cuz the ladies think he is cute, but he will have to change is style to cater to them. He ain’t gotta be a Ja or 50 walking around bear chested cuz I don’t think that’s his style, but he has to get out of “battle rapper” mode and become a corporate beast. It’s gonna take a LOT more work than he has ever put in.

Sorry so long :)

Chuuch

Def Jam still had a higher sucess/failure ratio than most labels. SInce rappers were always chunking rocks at the throne when Jay was just a rapper, they found it easy to do with him as a president. I wish Jay the best. I know all that bitching and moaning got on his nerves.

#31 yeah all of that is true with the exception of Ross no one really heard of Ross until Hustlin even in Florida. But Jeezy and Luda were already known. But are you saying that Redman, Benie Sigel and LL werent known. Something happened for the new talent to overshadow the old talent. I think Jay made it a priority to make sure the people he signed or had something to do with (with exception of Luda) succeed. Which happens in all business ventures not just the music industry and not just Def Jam.

redman is the only dude that was actually talking w/ sum sense and he sold the least. LL the record business is DOWN, ppl dont buy ALBUMS ANYMORE meaning lack of money 4 promotion. ur BOSS wants an R n B label, hes HOV’s boss as well and HE not HOV calls the shots. why u do think rihanna, neyo, and the dream are gettin all the promotion. niggas forget LA Reid ran LaFace records down 2 the ground nearly screwing outkast/usher in the process. LL ur last 2 albums were pure trash and didnt even deserve promotion. all the promotion hov does is OUTSIDE the music bizz cuz THERES NO MONEY IN THE MUSIC BIZZ. kanye and 50 didnt get promoted well by their labels thus they kept pushing their albums back. 50 chose 9/11 and the best thing to do was 4 kanye to choose the same date as well, as much as 50 has bitched bout this it was the best promotion hes ever gotten. both rappers wouldnt have sold as much by themselves PLUS it equaled FREE PROMOTION 4 both labels. times are changin, its time 4 a new hustle cuz CDs aint workin no more, time 2 go digital, build a chain of hotels, build a chain of sportsbars, do suttin.

“why does jay get the credit for some artists selling a lot and why does he get the blame for others flopping?”-bragd

That happens when you are president, you can’t only blame him for the bad.

Check the RIAA website, Juelz didn’t go platinum in the U.S.

38.
T2 wrote on December 29th, 2007 at 3:00 pm

That proves Hov has a great business sense yes he has to take the blame for the flops but you have to give him credit for there success aswell. He done everything that someone like Iovine at Interscope because if he had Stat Qou on his desk or he had 50 Cent on his desk he would do anything to promote 50 bcus he knows 50 could double his profits where as Stat Qou wouldnt simple as that. People that aint ruthless like that will fail it is the harsh reality of any business.

Brooklyn Soldier wrote on December 29th, 2007 at 3:47 pm

I see it as this most of yall got good points about the situation. Either way you look at it. I dont see why its only Jay taking the blame for anybody elses failure.

1. What extra steps did that artists do to promote THEMSELVES? Are they making music thats relevant to the people that buys albums.

2. If everyone is so concerned about who sold what, how come everyone didn’t buy the Roots, Ghostface, Redman, Method Man, and a few other Def Jam releases that didn’t sell that well?

3. What about the image of alot of these artist. Does it fit whats going on today in music? These are the things that make an artists successful or not. Believe it or not at the end of the day people are either going to like your shit or not. Stop blaming labels for you failures period. Everybody can’t do Kanye and 50 numbers. The game is not set up for that. Certain individuals sell and if people were so called true Hip Hop fans they would support the artists that they love and in todays rap world they fail to do so.

Stop blsming Jay ONLY for the Fsilures but then turn around and praise L.A and the others for the successes at Def Jam. Name me another label that has 26 Grammy Nods strictly off Hip Hop and RnB. But oh yeah, I guess Jay won’t get that credit either because he’s only responsible for the failures according to yall. Get real. Jay is as relevant today just like LL should be but his time is up. His fans are unloyal and Jay is still rockin.

Like many others have commented before me, people have to buy into your image and build interest enough to be influenced to buy your records and also some of its based off reputation.

Artists always blame the label but can’t blame Jay-Z for it. The label will only give you that backbone to push your record if they know it’s going to sell. They’re not going to waste their money to risk it. Maybe if this was in the late 90’s but some of these artists are lucky enough to put out an album at all.

nigga got damn near a billi in the bank, he dont need no record label to promote his shit

i hope he drops the same day as LL, that would hopefully shut his old ass up

honestly, i didnt think he was the man for the job. Once he got in i wasnt trippin, u cant judge a nigga off a short period man, there was alot of turnaround that needed to be done, and that never really got touched. its like when i was 15-16 and id quit jobs cause they werent right for me and they would never know what i was truly capable of. im mad he is gone so early, i would have liked to see what he could create, but oh well, this might not be the last stop.

i dont like this video
what the fuck does it prove?

each example was based on sales
in order to have high sales, you have to be commercial enough to reach the commercial audience.
the only artist ‘popular’ enough to complain about sales based on the overall drop in sales, would be LL. But one can argue that he too has lost popularity.
Comparing beanie sigel and freeway, to fabolous or rihanna or neyo or kanye makes no fuckin sense.

people that used to buy these cds, dont buy cds anymore.
when beanie went gold, his audience was buying cds, now they don’t.
people that buy kanye cds, rihanna cds, they still buy cds.
niggaz like sig and freeway, just gonna have to grind harder, get that grind money, or drop a fuckin single teenage girls can dance to like stronger or fuckin umbrella.

you want these niggaz to sell, and your a fan, buy a fuckin cd. the music is there if you listen… hip hop really didnt die the consumer did.

HOW TRUE, HOVA HAD MORE POSITIVES. THERE IS A NEW GENERATION OF MUSIC BUYERS, RADIO LISTENERS THAT THINK THAT RED, METH, LL, AND THE ROOTS ARE IRRELEVANT. IT’S TERRIBLE BECAUSE THOSE GUYS THINK THEY ARE SUPERSTARS WHICH MEANS THEY SHOULD HAVE A CORE FAN BASE WHICH MEANS THEY SHOULD SELL X AMOUNT OF RECORDS WITHOUT PROMOTION BECAUSE OF THEIR CORE FAN BASE. THE NEW GENERATION LIKES WALK IT OUT AND SUPERMAN AND IF YOU’RE NOT DELIVERING THAT YOU PROBABLY WONT GET CLUB AND RADIO PLAY. WHY WOULD DEF JAM PUT MONEY INTO ALBUMS THAT THEY KNOW ARE NOT GOING TO GET CLUB OR RADIO PLAY. DEF JAM IS ONLY ADHEARING TO CONTRACTUAL AGREEMENTS BY LETTING THOSE ARTIST PUT OUT ALBUMS AND THESE ARTIST ARE TAX WRITE OFFS. IT’S NOT ONLY THE NEW GENERATION THAT LIKES SUPERMAN, ITS ALSO OLD HEADS THAT LIKE IT. THE OLD GENERATION OF RAPPERS DISS THIS NEW STUFF BUT THIS NEW STUFF IS ABOUT HAVING FUN AND DANCING NOT LIKE RED MET AND SEGAL WHO TALK ABOUT SMOKING WEED AND CRACK, DOING PEYOTE, DRINKING PROMETHAZINE, SELLING DRUGS, ROBBING AND KILLING PEOPLE. THIS NEW STUFF MAY LACK CREATIVITY BUT IT GETS SPINS. ITS ABOUT THAT HOT SINGLE WHICH LL HAS NOT HAD IN A LONG TIME. WHAT THE HELL WAS THAT CRAP WITH LL AND JLO? YOU CANT TEACH AN OLD DOG NEW TRICK ESPECIALLY WHEN THEY THINK THEY ARE WISER AND BETTER THAN YOU. AS IN LL VS HOVA. AND FUTHERMORE YOU CAN NOT PUT ALL OF THE BLAME ON HOVA BECAUSE LA REID GIVES UP THE MONEY. DO YOU THINK THAT HOVA WANTS HIS ARTIST LIKE A SEGAL TO FAIL? SEGAL MAKES MUSIC FOR STREET NIGGAS THAT DONT SUPPORT HIM, THEY BUY HIS CDS FROM THE BOOTLEG STAND AND DOWNLOAD IT. HE IS SO BUSY TRYING TO IMPRESS DUDES THAT IT IS PART OF HIS DEMISE. A LOT OF THE DUDES THAT RAP ABOUT KILLING AND SELLING DRUGS ARE RAPPING TO DUDES. GIRLS DONT WANT TO HEAR THAT CRAP ALL OF THE TIME, ESPECIALLY IN THE CLUB. THEY WANNA HAVE FUN. THE PROBLEM IS THAT THESE DUDES WANNA BE IN CONTROL OF THEIR PROJECTS BUT DONT WANT TO TAKE THE BLAME BECAUSE THEIR SINGLE DIDNT FLY. BEANS, YOU SHOULD RE EVALUATE YOURSELF AND THE SONG CHOICES.I’M FROM PHILLY AND CASSIDY AND GILLY THA KID WHO ISNT EVEN SIGNED GET MORE SPINS ON RADIO AND AT THE CLUBS AND THAT HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH DEF JAM PROMOTION. BEANS SOUNDS TOO ANGRY ON THE RECORD SO WHEN IT COMES ON IN THE CLUB IT BRINGS THE CROWD HYPE DOWN. SEGAL GETS TOO HIGH AND LOOSES THOUGHT. I WAS AT TRANSIT NITE CLUB IN PHILLY AND IT WAS 1 A.M. THE DJ JUST GOT FINISHED PLAYING “WALK IT OUT,” THEN BEANS GETS ON THE MIC AND STARTS TO RAP “BREAD AND BUTTER AND OH DADDY” OFF OF THE B. COMING AND THE ENTIRE CROWD WAS GONE BY 1:15 A.M. AND THE CLUB USUALLY STAYS OPEN TILL 3:30 A.M. AND PHILLY IS HIS CITY AND MOST PEOPLE DONT LIKE HIM HERE ANYMORE. BESIDES THE FACT THAT BEANS AND THE OTHER UNHAPPY ARTIST SHOULD LEARN FROM 50 AND LIL WAYNE BY WARMING UP THEIR ALBUMS WITH ABOUT 4 MIXED CDS OF STUFF THAT WONT BE ON THE ALBUM. LET THE COUNTRY SEE THAT YOU GOT IT LYRICALLY. AND IF YOU’RE A HATTER LIKE BEANS IS ON THE SOUTH , THEN DESTROY THEM ON THEIR BEATS. too BUSY MAKING HARD CORE RAPS. RAP = POP CULTURE. HOVA DID BETTER THAN DIDDY, 50, EM, DRE, JIMMY IOVINE, RICK RUBIN, AND LYOR COHEN.

are ya’ll really grading his job at defjam based on the words of low selling artist???

if your not a guaranteed 2x platinum recording artist ( R and B or rap) you should be kissing the feet of whoever would still take a chance at releasing your music. those disgruntled rappers know if it werent for defjam, they would’nt have had any albums to release.
they woulda been “back on the block” at 30yrs old. they woulda been ” still huggin the corners” “pitching that rock” these niggas should be greatful for sum meaningful employement thats keeping them out of jail

if it werent for defjam, no other label woulda released a Beans, Freeway, Redman, Method Man, The Roots, Ghostface (3 albums),Joe Budden, Memphis Bleek,
what other label is even putting out that many straight rap records, defjam the only ones trying to keep hardcore rap alive. other labels jump ship long time ago. stop biting the hand the feeds you, crabs in a fuckin barrel

Now I know there are really retarded individuals in the world who actually believe what they hear and read from MAGS/INDIVIDUAL artists that HATE ALL DAY ON JAY-Z. Hey DUM-DUM do you know that it would cost 2 times as much to buy albums back then it would cost to actually produce and sell them. Oh I forgot 50 Cent told you that Jay-Z buys his albums so you believe that right. You are what they call a complete idiot. I pray to GOD (no disrespect to white people whom I love) you are not a BROTHA. If you are please go back to school and educate yourself because only kids believe what they hear and not see. Ask yourself why would a huge Conglomerate/Corporation consisting of Billboard and Soundscan allow an artist such as Jay-Z defraud actual #’s. I could see if it was ELVIS or the Beatles LOL now that would make me go HMMMMMM. My point is there are no actual facts to support those claims so I wish all of you so-called hip-hop enthusiasts stop listening to “HATER RAPPERS” JEALOUS OF THIS MANS SUCCESS,WEALTH AND WIFEY SAYING THAT HE IS RIGGING SOUNDSCANS…NEGRO PLEASE STOP REGURGITATING 50 CENT,LL AND ALL THE OTHER JAY-Z HATERS AND JUST EMBRACE THE MAN AS THE LEGEND HE IS. ARE THERE ANY ARTIST IN YOUR TOP 5 THAT CAN SAY THEY ARE TIED WITH ELVIS PRESLEY …..I DON’T THINK SO BUDDY…GET A LIFE MORON! OH AND HAPPY NEW YEARS

Take responsibility for ya own failure the same way u do for ya success. Nice recap but I miss kanye’s “Big Brother” track to be mentioned. The tribute that’s actually a diss.

To me as a music manager myself Jay-Z failed. The outcome would have been exactly the same as the kid next door would toke that job, except for the many jay-z promo and features.

Tell that to Jimmy Iovine at Interscope LMAO!!! And go ahead and say it….they are a white label but if that is so, then why do they own Shady, Aftermath AND G-unit, 3 of the most prominant urban lables SINCE Def Jam. And all of those lables have produced INTERNATIONAL SUPERSTARS, 2 within the last 9 years?

Get your blinders off so you can take in the whole picture.

Man…..
If it wasn’t Shawn Behind the desk niggaz wouldn’t be bitching so fucking much.
Beans flopped because his album was wack. If Beans had just put out The B coming I bet that shit would of did better than the wack ass shit that just dropped.
L L… WTF….. How you going to promote Wackness.. I bought that album when It dropped and I told everybody else to not even waste there time downloading the shit because that shit was wack as fuck.
And Redman… How long has Redman been on Def Jam? and How many times did he go plat? Nigga was putting out LP’s before Napster Came out And napster for the youngins was before LImewire Bearshare and all that shit and the nigga still struggled.
And yall gonna Knock Jigga because ……….. His name is jigga
Joey is the only one that has a fucking saying to all this.
Hov fucked up for putting that talent on the shelf.
But when Joey dropped his 1st LP on Def Jam that album was fiya! but only Two Videos and that shit was getting no spins on the radio. And Jigga didn’t even drop the black album yet better become the president so for that Joey can’t even blame jigga for all that. Only partial

At the end of the day……..
Niggaz rather just download shit.
Some people got kids to Feed or if they don’t have kids they have Strippers to Tip…

I dont normally post but the amount of ignorance shown here is amazing . What sort of business buys its own products ? Some of you obviously have never run a small shop let alone a corporation. You dont make money by buying your own product .

Anyway , since the Enron fiasco there are now stringent accounting standards you cant pull off a stunt like buy your own album .

you know that’s real. Jay gotta wear 3 caps. Jay-Z the Artist, Jay-Z the President and Jay-Z the CEO of the Roc. so maybe label wise he got more marketing money but not just for him but his artists too like Kanye. It’s seems like he stacking guap for the Roc, and right now he didn’t have enough time to focus 100% on the Roc as president. Now he’s back to the Damon Dash position where he CEO/Artist. you got Tru Life , Peedi, Uncle Murder and Kiss and others I probably not mention well see what pops off with they projects cause Tru Life been chillin for a minute now. He got dem mixtapes though.

The King wrote on December 31st, 2007 at 12:23 pm

the reason all those hard body rap albums flopped in the record sales is because its 2008 and niggas in the hood have laptops and wireless internet access.
back in the 90’s and early 2g niggas didnt have access to computers and internets and downloading the way they do now. everybody got sum way to get what they wanna hear for free. if only downloads could count for record sales them niggas would be very happy. but every broke nigga got a computer and a ipod now which means they gettin it for free.

the people that support r and b, or rap like kanye or jayz or 50, or diddy they been had access to those things and they chose to spend the money to support they artist.

these rappers are supposed to be hood, then complain about niggas tryin to get they shit for free, they should be the first to understand. frauds

Your a fuckin’ retard. They don’t do it to “make money” they do it to attract interst to their artist. The more an album sells, the more people are going to wonder why and buy it themselves.

SMDH….SOOOO simple minded. The industry has made BILLIONS and BILLIONS of money off of people like you lmao.
