I don’t think the nigga should be making more than 7 figures annually. But look at his body of work during the time hes had that President title. Doesnt matter if you want to give him credit for it or not, he had two brand new artist drop who are basically house hold names now in Rihanna and Neyo. Jeezy was a new artist and dropped 2 solo albums that sold over a mill and a group album that went gold. Rick Ross went gold on his first album. Had Nas sign with Def Jam, Kanye did crazy first week numbers plus his own 2 albums sold good.
He did a lot more to but remember all this during the age of ipods, bootlegging and itune downloads. Now I think he drop the ball with Joe Buddens but thats just me. If niggas think Dame and Biggs did all the work when the ROC was together you crazy. Pay that nigga man, hes the face of the franchise right now lol.

That stupid retirment crap is LAME. As I recall he only announced his retirement one time after the Fade To Black Tour, right? and he came back on time with Kingdom Come (which i personally think was definitely slept on my by so called fans who don’t grow with their favorite artist). After Kingdom Come I don’t remember him saying he was retiring AGAIN and then came out with an album inspired by a movie (American Gangster). So there is no “I lost coiunt on how many times he came out of retirement. If your going to post somwthing about Jay-Z, make worth his real fan’s time.

I think if u a Beans fan u know when his cd drop and the same for everybody else listed prior. Most established artist are just looking to satisfy their fans not really gain new ones. If people aint a fan of your work and you been out more than 3 years they probably arent interested in you. Ex. i don’t no if he deserves it but look at the #’s. sure LL and method man r mad cuz they flopped (LL flopped cuz he sux, not cuz of Jay), but since hov’s been prez Maria went 5 times plat,jigga himself went plat twice, kanye went plat twice and graduation was the best first week sales in def jam history. He brought Nas 2 def jam, helped him make an album that was hands down better than his last 2 albums. he Signed rihanna….we all no how she turned out, Ne-yo went platinum 2 times and is one of the most talented people on the label. Luda (finally got a Grammy), Fabolous, Rick Ross…the list goes on. Ghostface didn’t go plat but he dropped 3 of the best hip hop albums in the past few years back 2 back 2 back. The Dream, Chrisette Michele, Let’s Not 4get about the ROC (killed the 4th quarter). And he produced Lupe Fiasco’s food and liquor and ol buddy from linkin park. King, you cant make a magazine do anything I agree but Def Jam or Universal has a certain amount of influence. Corporate sponsorship, and advertisement are like niggas and chicken they just go together lol.
Magazines and radio stations want big artist on the cover all the time but labels set it up when you about to drop a album to agree to the cover. No need being in the public eye unless you gonna benefit from it. Same with actors and politicians. You start to see actors come on TRL, Leno and letterman ect… when they have a movie to plug. Its just them being more relevant at that current time.
You dont see the president or presidential candidates giving speeches all accross the country until an election comes up or if he absolutely has to. Obama not out here kissing babys yet, that shit starts in Feb.

YESSIR!!! He deserves that and more. Why?
1. Def Jam wasn’t making any moves with rap and he brought it back to light after Russell.
2. LA Reid is an R&B guy as is JD. Steve isn’t hip hop. Jay understands it as an artist and exec from RocaFella. Dame and Biggs didn’t run the ROC – Jay did because everything reflected on his moves. If he wasn’t on the ROC – the ROC wouldn’t have existed.
3. LA Reid hasn’t done any more wonders at Def Jam. JD did Mariah’s album and Mariah sold herself. LA has his own label he’s still running and isn’t at the office that much either. Aside, from he’s running around making babies!
4. LA & Co. needs Jay for the rap portion of Def Jam because when artists are beefing about marketing, etc., you never hear their names thrown up only Jay’s. Jay doesn’t care, but LA loves that he’s there to take that heat off him.
5. Any artists that haven’t sold in the past couple of years is due to downloading – not any record execs. All the people that’s saying Jay has an ego or shouldn’t be paid are the ones that are downloading and ruining the music. THE RAP ARTISTS THAT SELL ARE CONSIDERED POP ARTISTS AND PLACED IN POP CATEGORIES. Other labels are suffering with downloading problems just like Def Jam, but you don’t hear about it because Jay isn’t on those labels. Wherever he goes, that’s the label that’s going to be put in the spotlight.
6. Jay put Rihanna on the map and made her a star. She’s still whack ass hell, can’t sing or dance and has never gone plat in the U.S. and she’s as big as Britney. All due to his guidance and advice.
7. Wherever Jay goes, the tide will follow. Def Jam’s going to disappear as far as rap without him. LA’s working on Janet – he could care less about rap. Let’s see what the artists say then once they’re really not getting shine.
8. If Jay leaves and someone else replaces him, I bet it’ll be the person who says he shouldn’t or couldn’t do the job because they want it.
9. Again, the tide will follow Jay because he gets to take the artists he signed with him (if they want to go) and he and Beyonce are looking to start their own label.
10. Def Jam is about to really lose. Rap doesn’t sell – it gets downloaded. If Jay’s at Sony working on artists, they’re going to be basically r&b, pop and rock which all sell and aren’t downloaded. He’ll still do rap, but the rap won’t be the major focus like it is as Def Jam.

Number one rule to business is to maximize profit. People get laid off all the time and especially around this time of year. The vast majority of companys have to prepare for their fiscal year within the first quarter of the new year. Some of you niggas need to take a class or get a better job so you know whats up.
People getting laid off with kids doesnt mean shit, I bet a company as big as def jam gave a severance package and probably let some of them keep their insurance plans for a minimum of 60 days but probably no less than 120. Plus having kids is a lifestyle choice you make. Parents who loose their gig shouldn’t want pitty, they should want a fuckin interview.

Alot of that shit is good music. For R&B, Ne’yo’s album was dope. For Rap, Fab, Jay’s, Kanye’s, and Nas’s albums were all dope. As for Jeezy and Rihana, there shit ain’t much worst then all these other major label artist dropping albums. And just to let you know, most of the hip hop music is bought by white kids. If people are gonna put all the problems at def jam on Jay’s shoulders then all the good things that happen at Def Jam should be put on his shoulders to since people wanna place everything that happens there on him. And Rihanna’s album is doing well. She’s 855k in the US and platinum world wide.

my nigga girlfriend work for island def jam and she told him jay wanted 200 million. thats a lotta fuckin money to pay out when u dont even know how profitable music is gonna be in the next few years. but who knows he might get it. that 200 mill would consist of all the albums he’s gonna drop in the next 5 years (probably 2 or 3), all his worldwide concerts, all his duties at def jam (he oversees all the projects, but doesnt work in marketing), in charge of running the offices at def jam(which includes marketing but it’s marketing’s job to market, contracts, setting up tours), and bringing new artists to the label(which is under-rated, considering u have to get people out of existing contracts, draw up new contracts, calculate an artists value, talk to agents), and also overseeing the development of new artists. this is what she said and she should know better than a lot of people. shit if i had to do all of that i would be asking for heavy bread too. it is over 5 years. 50 wants 100 million and he doesnt have to do anywhere near that much shit
