To understand what he was sayin’ you’re going to have to go back and listen to his previous songs on his mixtape albums…there are a couple of interpretations all over the web on what he was sayin’. If you not on Lupe, then he’s way over your head so don’t hurt yourself trying to figure it out. FNFUP!

He is talking about how success is overrated and he basically criticizes what it means to be cool in todays hiphop culture or black culture, I guess.

Its not a freestyle, the song is titled THE COOLEST off his ‘the cool’ album.

Pay attention to Lupe, read and get intelligent people, there is no other way to progress as a race than to better ourselves mentally. We don’t need albums titled ‘NIGGER’ to tell us how brilliant we have the potential to be.

ok here is my 2 cents..

# 1 this is not a freestyle… I thought freestyle was when you come off the top of the head with it, Very few Mc’s do this. It’s a rare talent that doesn’t lead to platinum record sales but it is what it is

#2 I think I am a pretty smart guy and I like different music however, I didn’t get what the hell he was rapping about on the first listen.. Yall call it dumb it down but I didn’t see anyone type what his rhyme was about or what you )smart people) got out of it.. The person above gave a little (and I thank you for that). If I took a stab at it on one listen, I think he was rapping about fame and hip hop and being cool.. I have to listen again to get it. But does that make you Overrated or underrated? Some people are too deep for their own good. I like poetry and conscious rappers. I like when a person challenge me to think, but I call this nothing more than talent and there is a message here but you just have to listen which I am about to do again.. If I don’t get it the second time, I guess he might have to dumb it down for me…lol
