American Gangster Debuts At Number One With $46.3 Million In Sales
I didn’t get a chance to see the movie, but heard good things about it. Damon Dash had a lot to say about how inaccurate the film was(link) and the NY Daily News has an article about the real Frank Lucas.
That such icy qualities are not in the movie makes it a highly crafted piece of poisonous eye candy. One wonders why Washington himself, one of the few actors in Hollywood with what seems to be absolute integrity, did not demand a more realistic script about Lucas. The real Frank Lucas was like a polished walnut with nothing but black rot inside.

The movie actually was very accurate, but of course the person the movie portrayed won’t admit to any murders due to the unlimited statue of limitations on murder..no#1 nicca

I’m going to watch it on Friday when it comes out in England but I’ve heard good things about it.

From what I saw off the documentary on BET and the movie, there are some minor changes, like in real life Frank Lucas and his Puerto Rican wife had a baby, which they didn’t show in the movie. Also, little sh*t like Frank’s cousin from Bangkok’s real name was Tito, but in the movie his name was Nate…
…But like I said, that was little sh*t, and other than that the movie was very accurate to Frank’s true life story…
“My man”…

EXCELLENT……SO WHAT IF THE MOVIE SWITCHED A NAME HERE AND THERE, THEY COULD NOT DO ALL THE GRIT, GRIME AND MURDERS…WHY? BECAUSE FRANK IS ALIVE AND NEVER ADMITTED TO THEM. AS HE STATED THERE IS NO STATUE OF LIMITATIONS SO HIS AS* AINT HITTIN IT BACK TO JAIL. IT WAS VERY DETAILED AND THE ACTING WAS EXCELLENT. DENZEL……”MY MAN” DID IT AGAIN!

the real Frank was a country bum who tried to kill his own brother. he cried like a baby on the stand and snitched on everyone, not just dirty cops

Movie was a good watch, DW brought FL character to live. My favorite part was when he took the fur coat and thru it in the fire in front of his wife. He was getting hot and knew what attract it.
“A weak man need to run his mouth, cuz he need attention. A strong man don’t have to say a word cuz his actions speak for him”
Off Topic
Agree with (MiMi) they change it a little to make it more appealing to a bigger crowd. Overall A

does anyone know what the song is called at the end of the trailer??
November 5th, 2007 at 8:42 am
ayo do yall think he was a rat/snitch??
November 5th, 2007 at 8:44 am
Fortunatly, I don’t think they were going for accuracy with this film; they were looking for entertainment value as well as send the message (which I think they did very well). The script was changed a few times, ultimatly trying to emphasize on F.L.’s business practices and the cop’s honesty. Of course, there are aspects they aren’t going to show, like F.L.’s relationship with Nicky actually was deeper, and the cop was a true womanizer, not just humping his lawyer. But at the end of the day, folks, we have to remember, this IS Hollywood.

Man this movie was garbage. To have Denzel in the movie and still have a weak script doesnt make sense to me. Basically what you saw in that 2 minute trailer is all the action that happened in the movie. This movie is more about a cop than a drug dealer. There isnt any action in this movie im sorry. What happened to the real gangtsa ish like casino, goodfellas, bronx tale and etc…..two thumbs down “My man”.

November 7th, 2007 at 9:01 am
I love me some Denzel. But to be honest the movie wasn’t all that hot to me. And if Denzel did not carry his charcter so well the movie wouldv’e probally been worse. Lets say Frank Lucas was played by an actor u never seen or heard of. It would have never got so much hype & so much $. I almost wanna say a low budget film like Paid in full is better @ portaying an era of street Kings. And is it just me; But the ending was a hot mess. It coulv’e been done with a little more effort. Show this nigga being poor or chillen on a damn island or something…damn. Where is Frank Lucas now????

#20, I agree. i don’t think we will ever be able to see any movies like that again. They will 4ever remain classics. AMC channel cira 2020.
