Alicia Keys’ New Album, "As I Am," Sells 742k
All of her promotion and performances have definitely been worth it. 742,426 records sold is a major accomplishment in today’s industry for any artist. Alicia’s previous first week sales are, “Songs In Minor(235k),” “The Diary Of Alicia Keys(618k),” and “Unplugged(196k).” Also this week, Jay-Z’s, “American Gangster,” sold another 130k while Chris Brown moved 109k units.

Jay-Z who…….
November 21st, 2007 at 8:30 am
She topped EVERY RAPPER that has come out this year
I’m sorry…..just so proud *tearing up* I knew she was gonna be #1…hell EVERYONE knew that but she went gold and THEN some. Everyone is getting tired of hearing the same thing over and over.
And I love her new video with Common. They would make a cute couple if her and Kerry weren’t so tight

The album is hot but I still think Diary was her best album to date.
November 21st, 2007 at 8:56 am
^^^^^ I was talking about REAL rappers, not really good producers mistaken as rapper you uncircumsized dickhead!!!
November 21st, 2007 at 9:02 am
AlIcia keys!!!! Damn! This woman is so blessed! GOD has touched her career. In this day and age, it’s not easy to do these numbers on first sells unless you’re Beyonce. Shit, even Beyonce didn’t manage to sell as much. Bey sold 542,000 units on her first week. She even surpassed mary j who sold 7000,000.
You ain’t got to love A.keys, you don’t even have to like her…But you will RESPECT HER!
November 21st, 2007 at 9:03 am
What Alicia sold 742K, that album is boring as hell!!!! Who buys that? American Gangster sold 130 units, he deserves that definitely, did you listen do the album it´s really great work, it´s the best rap album of the year!

She has 9 grammies! However she is not eligible for any grammy nominations this year. Her album was released after the deadline, which is in september i think. She will have to wait until the grammy’08. But yes, i agree she will most likely win a grammy as always.

BILLBOARD ACHIEVEMENTS!
T-Pain, 50 Cent and Jay-Z have all made history!
PAIN FULL: A 64-6 leap for “Low” (Poe Boy/Atlantic) by Flo Rida and featured artist T-Pain and the continued presence of singles by Chris Brown, Kanye West and Baby Bash give T-Pain four titles in the top 10 of The Billboard Hot 100, the highest number of simultaneous top 10 hits for any artist since 50 Cent had a quartet of top 10 hits in the first two weeks of April 2005.
Here is how T-Pain’s four top 10 hits stack up on the current chart:
No. 1: “Kiss Kiss,” Chris Brown featuring T-Pain
No. 6: “Low,” Flo Rida featuring T-Pain
No. 7: “Good Life,” Kanye West featuring T-Pain
No. 8: “Cyclone,” Baby Bash featuriung T-Pain
And here is how the four 50 Cent songs fared on the Hot 100 dated April 2, 2005:
No. 1: “Candy Shop,” 50 Cent featuring Olivia
No. 5: “Disco Inferno,” 50 Cent
No. 6: “Hate It or Love It,” The Game featuring 50 Cent
No. 8: “How We Do,” The Game featuring 50 Cent
While T-Pain has to settle for tying 50 Cent’s achievement, he has surpassed him on another chart. T-Pain has had nine top 10 hits on the Rhythmic Top 40 chart this calendar year, including four this week (the same four that are in the top 10 of the Hot 100). That’s a record on this tally, one previously held by 50 Cent, who had six top 10 hits in 2005.
THE BIG 10: By entering The Billboard 200 at No. 1 with “American Gangster” (Roc-A-Fella/Def Jam), Jay-Z scores the 10th chart-topping set of his career. That ties him with Elvis Presley for having the second highest total of No. 1 titles on this chart. Only the Beatles, with 19, have had more.
Jay-Z made his first appearance on the album tally the week of July 13, 1996, with “Reasonable Doubt,” which peaked in its debut position of No. 23. Jay-Z’s third charted album, “Vol. 2…Hard Knock Life,” was his first to occupy the penthouse. That CD debuted at No. 1 the week of Oct. 17, 1998. So it has taken Jay-Z nine years, one month and one week to accumulate 10 No. 1 albums.
Presley first topped the album chart the week of May 5, 1956, with his eponymously-titled first chart LP. His 10th album to go to No. 1 was “Elvis: 30 #1 Hits” the week of Oct. 12, 2002. It took Presley 46 years, five months and one week to rack up 10 chart-topping albums. On the other hand, as of this week, Jay-Z has spent 17 weeks at No. 1, while Presley’s total is 63 weeks.
And in case you’re curious, the Beatles only needed three years, four months and two weeks to get to their 10th No. 1 album. “Meet the Beatles” moved into first place the week of Feb. 15, 1964, and their 10th No. 1, “Sgt. Pepper’s lonely Hearts Club band,” marched into the lead position the week of July 1, 1967.
One final note about Jay-Z: all 10 of his chart-topping CDs debuted at No. 1, making him the artist with the highest number of albums that began their chart lives at the summit.

Just Bring That Shit Back To NYC!!
I agree. Mary J Blige, Alicia Keys, Jay Z and 50 cent all from New York and the moving units like it aint a thing. And I aint even from NY. I’m from the A. And while all the music the south brings to the table might be catchy it just doesn’t sell. Ringtones aint meanin shit man. It’s just a ringtone. Albums are of more importance than ringtones and New York does that. They make albums. Can’t forget about Kanye too. He did his thing. RIP Donda West.

^^^^^
Beyonce just got her 10th for “Ring the Alarm” (I dont know why) Go to Grammy.com and you will see 7 of em’ are duets or colaborations where as Alicia has been doing it BY HER SELF for a much shorter time and already has 9. IMO she is the better artist all around. But Beyonce is a better singer and has shown more sex appeal.
As far as Beyonce’s numbers….in 2004 I went to a concert they performed at in Oceanside, CA at Camp Pendelton Marine Base(you can catch the performance on Youtube, they were all wearing white) right before they kicked off their final tour. The show announcer said “50 million sold world wide” and I was like GTFOH??!!!! So I KNOW she hasn’t sold 70 million more records in under 3 years??
Don’t be so naive…if the public doesn’t have direct access or prof for something, they (some) will pay the media to stretch the truth with their own personal money. People will stop at NOTHING to say on top, even if they have to fabricate.
Go ahead…call me a hater and get it out of your systems. I’m sure it will make you feel better. Or better yet, call me fat, black, broke, ugly, jealous or plain out accuse me of having a crush on Joe Camel etc LOL!!!!

I have addressed my comment TWICE but RTNY would not post my responce. Basically what I said (less nicer though) is I don’t consider Kanye to be a rapper. He is a producer. Always has been, alwayz will be.
And how is it spreading false info when EVERYONE that listens to hip-hop already know HIS numbers better than their own phone number already you 3 day old nut stains???
November 21st, 2007 at 1:02 pm
yall should slow down on the New York thing. NY is coming back in due time. You guys never completely fell off. You always had a superstar artist repping you in some way.
Ive seen people claim Kanye as NY and now R&B artist, come on lets be real. Just wait until the Roc is completely finish being rebuilt.

Why would I want to be from the south. I’m from the place where Nas, Jay Z, Biggie, 50 cent, Diddy, Busta Rhymes, Swiss Beats, Alicia Keys, Mary J Blige, Russell Simmons, Lil Kim, KRS One, Slick Rick, Mariah Carey, LL Cool J, Tribe Called Quest, Rakim, Wu Tang Clan, and Luther Vandross is from. The south aint got nothin on New York. It’s just the south’s time. And in New York the only people that be doin the Soulja Boy dances and shit are the young kids. The older niggaz don’t do that shit up here. Did I mention that New York has the best of all time. Just speakin the truth. The majority of the legends are from here.

And you got people like Outkast who was most inspired by groups like Tribe Called Quest and the Furious Five. Ludacris inspired by LL Cool J, TI inspired by Jay Z and the list goes on. What moe do you want? New York still runs this rap shit. Hell, the living king of hip hop is from NY. THta means that everywhere in the country that has thier own movements still is one step below Jay Z. Hate it or love it. It’s the mother fuckin truth. Mad cuz I’m not from the south. No bro. I’m on my New York shit.
November 21st, 2007 at 8:15 pm
albums dope…i think what made it sold was a good single “no one” was very catchy and anyone can relate to it….that shit gets mad spins and will probably get ALOT of awards including some grammys… A.KEYS is doin her thing and looking sexy as ever!

Her CD is alright to me, nothing amazing. I feel like i’ll be listening to it for three more days and then back in the case it goes… To tell yall the truth i like it when an artist comes out with hot singles that makes me go get the album and then while listening to the CD i find myself not listening to the singles b/c the rest of it catches my attention.. I feel like Alicia’s CD has two songs other then the 2 singles out that are dope
November 22nd, 2007 at 11:01 am
Umm You must didn’t watch the AMA’s. Beyonce was honored for being the first female to win the International artist award. Only 5 other people won that and they were all men including michael jackson. They listed all of her accomplishments and 130 mill records was the first thing they listed. Numbers don’t lie and you must not be a fan or you would know this. And Bey didn’t win no grammy for Ring The Alarm she won it for her album Bday so that shows how much you know. She won only 3 with DC and 7 as a solo artist so that shows she’s more successful solo. Like I said before numbers don’t lie and these are the facts.
Alicia and Beyonce both do their own thangs but Beyonce is more successful and that’s a fact not an opinion b/c she’s been out longer. They both run it along with Mariah and Mary so ya’ll stans can chill trying to always compare people b/c they are all killing it right now. Congrats to Alicia again.
November 22nd, 2007 at 11:09 am
her album is straight fire alicia always kills it yall cant front either yall know she better then beyonce

Naw Alicia cool but she still can’t fuck with no Beyonce. Beyonce does it all but Alicia do the same boring shit over and over. But congrats to her on her sales though.
See Alicia Keys is what you call a “real musician”. She aint into poppin her booty in videos and all that shit that Bey does. I aint mad at Bey for doin what she does but I’m explaining the difference. With Alicia Keys you always know that she is gonna bring that pure, black, neo soul sound to the table for us. She shows her musiscan ship when she plays piana and all that. That’s why Alicia sold more than Bey in the first week. “Good” music always wins eventually. It’s like the 50 cent vs Knaye thing.
November 23rd, 2007 at 5:03 pm
Damn she left niggas in her wake I think her album never leaked aswell which made people go out and buy her shit. Good looks for her I’m glad I brought her album got to support the real artists.
November 23rd, 2007 at 6:03 pm
@ 57 Alicia done had how many solo albums? Don’t forget Beyonce has only had 2 solo albums? When Beyonce releases her 3rd album she’ll probably sell more than Alicia first week. Until then you can’t really judge. Besides Beyonce is more popular and more successful than Alicia based on her entire career. So Beyonce ain’t got nothing to worry about. Let Alicia have her shine w/o trying to belittle Beyonce b/c Beyonce is still running shit. It’s just Alicia’s time to shine and when Beyonce releases another album it will be her time.
November 25th, 2007 at 7:24 pm
Congratulations to Alicia for doing it real big her first week out! No One is also number one on the hot 100. Actually No One was released in time for the Grammys so that song will be nominated this year probably get nominated for best R&B song and performance. 09 will be the year she does it real big at the grammys though, because the album will be nominated along with the rest of the singles she will release. Look for Lesson Learned to be big at the grammys in 09 and Superwoman those are the type of songs the grammys love. Her CD is off the hook and there is nothing wrong with album sales people just aren’t spending money on any and everything people put out these days we want quality. Just because you have one big single doesn’t make people bum rush the stores. Congrats to Miss. Keys she deserves to be sitting on top.
November 25th, 2007 at 7:51 pm
I hate it when a topic on Alicia turns into a bey vs alicia conversation. Right now is Alicia’s time. I don’t believe Bey deserved that award before women like Madonna, Whitney, Mariah, Celine…say what you want but those ladies put it down in major ways. I feel they gave her that this year to get her to show up cause she didn’t win anything else. She deserves it maybe in a few years, but not now. Both ladies are great at what they do and deserve to shine. Congratulations to Alicia for having the #1 album and #1 song in the country by a very large margin for the fourth time.
November 26th, 2007 at 3:38 pm
Ok, I am usually not into the whole blogger thing. But people are obviously misinformed. This whole beyonce vs Alicia vs Mary, it bothers me. They are all very accomplished, extremely successful, and I have to say RICH! However, Beyonce has not sold 130 million records, so sorry, only mariah and celine dion have had such accomplishments. Beyonce may be considered 130 X platinum, however, platinum status in the US is 1 million records shipped, in different areas of the world platinum status may be 10,000 copies or 100,000 copies. As for as solo careers, Alicia keys would be considered more accomplished because she has sold over 25 million records worldwide, and she has 9 grammys with only two studio albums. Alicia has only been in the game for 6 years vs Beyonces 10 years. I love both these extremely talented ladies… But the most accomplished female artisit to date is Mariah Carey, who has sold over 160 million records worldwide. beyonce don’t have 130million albums unless you combing what she has sold with DC3 than maybe beyonce has sold only about 18 million ablums as a solo artist, thanks and all YOU who say her album is boring thatis because you can’t appreciate good music and respectable lyrics. you want a beat that you can shake you booty to like beyonce’s song but if we paid attetion to the lyrics of songs rather than their ass shaking beats you will see that some albums aint worth buying. ALICIA KEYS lyrics can’t have that kind of beat to it or it will mess the lyrics up. no im not hating just being truthful

^^^you deserve Alicia stan of the century award. You aint stating nothing but opinions and not FACTS. It’s a FACT that Beyonce has sold 130 million records. And it’s a FACT that Beyonce is more popular, richer, and more successful than Alicia Keys. Alicia Keys music is boring and nobody is checking for her outside of the black community. When Alicia has 5 commercials on t.v and is #4 on Forbes like Beyonce then you can compare.
Oh and Alicia post turned into a Beyonce post.LMAO

“Alicia Keys music is boring and nobody is checking for her outside of the black community.”
That’s because Alicia hasn’t gotten to the point of selling her soul for popularity and money. She still has some dignity. For now anyway.
